Wow, I never thought of using a blush brush as a mop brush...genius! It works really well. I've been using a watercolor mop brush, but that can get real expensive.

So whimsical -- I love your painting. For viewers who don't have a lot of mop brushes, soak a piece of paper towel with hand sanitizer and use it to wipe the mop when changing colors. It may not work with heavy body because it is so much thicker, but it works really well if you don't get the mop brush real wet. Hand sanitizer also works to clean paint out of the ferule so your brushes don't split. It's the alcohol that dissolves the paint.

I came across your channel by chance and firstly watched your video about how you started out and your health. I too suffer from arthritis in my spine and hips as well as stomach issues and fibromyalgia so I can relate. I was a marketing manage up til five years ago but last year I got into crafting, initially card making and pocket letters. I've branched out since then into mixed media and art journaling. I have a background in art, I started out as a graphic designer before getting into marketing, but stopped doing anything art related many years ago, I really admire how you're self taught and your attention to details and composition are brilliant. I've never experimented with surrealism but watching this has made me want to give it a go. Your new subbie :) x

When I get done with these holiday paintings I'm gonna do my favorite one that is a surreal tiny canvas in a large canvas. Nice when someone gives you the green light to paint whatever for them lol. I'm in the straight string camp HAH. Very nice anyway!

Thanks so much for this Lisa! I think I'm definitely gonna pull the trigger on acrylics and oils this fall/winter and I'm inspired a lot by this simple process. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i seems like the brush technique for acrylics and oils isn't radically different, it's just the drying time and the layering differently, so I can definitely practice both simultaneously (on different pieces of course). Best, Joe

@Sakuems9 жыл бұрын
Lachri Fine Art you think ?? i'm so scared of messing things up that i don't even try XD
@TheYerMoma9 жыл бұрын
+Sakuems I didn't create my truest amazing work until I let go of the fear. It wasn't until I labeled painting sessions as "eff it" paintings (lol) that I stopped fearing and worrying and realized that you've got nothing to lose just going for it and that in all actuality it is when you let go and even make mistakes (which usually really are happy little accidents like our good old friend bob Ross used to say lol) that your true greatness shines. Don't fear and don't hold yourself back! Paint everything, and keep painting it regardless of the result! Because THAT is how you'll grow and get better and better! I used to be such a perfectionist too until I realized the greatest of the greats are "sloppy" or "loose" or just aren't as perfect with their application or process as I thought. Paintings are a process and it is totally okay for them to look like crap throughout the process. That's what gets you to the end product of AMAZING! You can do it! Don't hold yourself back!
@TheYerMoma9 жыл бұрын
+Sakuems also, you can paint layer on top of layer so don't fear it so much - even if you don't like a layer, paint over it! Practice makes perfect! You can also always paint over anything to make some else new on top of that - so no canvas is ever wasted. You'll just get better and better. But take some time before painting over it because we are our own worst critic and it might be great and you just can't see it yet! Sometimes I can't see my paintings for days or weeks or months before I can see them as an actual painting the way others do because I just see my process and brush strokes and mistakes and what not. Never say you can't! All the greats were beginners at one time too! Don't forget that!

lol I use make-up brushes for softening things. I got a blush brush, and some sort of eye shadow brush, and they were both from the Dollar Tree (BUT, I did have to take out a lot of loose strands before using). I also got this watercolor brush that is soft and it costed some money, and it also shed plenty. Psh. Expensive brushes my ass.
@Lachri9 жыл бұрын
ArtOfRavenD Yeah I've found all the actual art mop brushes shed SOOOOOO bad. The makeup brushes do a much better job if you can find one with a light enough and long enough handle. The problem I've found is that so many have short heavy handles which are not good for this technique.
@ArtOfRavenD9 жыл бұрын
Perhaps duct tape a stick to the make-up brush and then you have a long mop brush?
