I'd love to check out that non-skid! I use Kiwi Grip on the boat and skimboards/surfboards. Used ToughCoat on my deck (hurts your bare feet but wears like cast iron) once.... I used the Pettit on my boat. Top to bottom. Came reco'd by Herrington Harbour and Defender marine. Barrier coat, bottom paint, metal coat, the EZPoxy. Love that stuff. I found it better than the Interlux in some ways, on par others. So far 2 months in the water and the Hydrocoat SR has ZERO growth on it! None! But my boot stripe is wet so we'll see how the EZPoxy works with On/Off Gel in the fall/winter to remove that Chesapeake Scum line. Frog tape works much better with Pettit paints. Not sure why but the blue tape I got those drips under it. Frog tape (Harrington Harbour staff shared a roll and told me) I had nothing, perfect line. Looks fantastic!! Wear sunglasses or you'll go blind with that shine!

Great video, I have to redo some of my balsa core that means peeling back my deck skin, thinking about sanding it down lightly and painting it, three years later are you still satisfied with the job? How did it hold up? does it look good? Easy to repair if scuffed? Thanks! Earned my sub

Great video, it gave me more confidence to paint my own deck. After a year, did you notice any wear? Folks say that you need to strip everything from the deck, or you see wear sooner. Obviously, I would prefer to do my deck like yours...

the white is still great, i only did one coat of the non-skid, no singes of wear but I see some areas with a little white coming through where i missed the first time so I am putting on another coat, so happens i am doing it today :)

Thanks for the great vid. If your fiberglass deck is already textured by the manufacturer, do you have to completely grind away all the non-skid to achieve a perfectly smooth surface or do you just apply the non-skid paint directly on top of the cleaned surface?

Here I am again, I guess. Haha. Whenever I look for videos you pop up for some reason. Anyways. I thought about doing the paintjob on my boat soon because its in a really bad condition. The previous owner didnt take care of it very well.. :( And since I want to resell it later on I want to make the best out of it. When I was younger I learned the painter trade, and what we used to do with basically everything we worked on; Scrub down the old paint first, smooth out the the walls etc and then apply the new paint. One time I was supposed to skip that on the request of the customer, and what happened? Where the old paint dried out and got loose we painted over, had all those dry, little paint bits in our rollers and brushes, and it took forever to pick those out with your fingers. Took us 3 weeks instead of 2 days. So were done and get a call 4 months later on from the very customer, very angry, telling how part of the wall we painted just came down. What happened? Well, the new paint was pretty heavy on the wall and stuck well to the old paint, but the old paint didnt stick to the wall anymore. The boss told our customer before we went to work that that might happen, but she wanted us to get it done "quick". So my thoughts are derailing a little, but I always figured youd need to take down the old paintjob before applying a new one. Apparently not. Thanks for the video. Would have loved a little bit more of actual painting action, but I guess its kind of annoying with the cam in the way etc when you are working on your own. Cheers and happy sailing.

Thank you very much from Australia. I take it that you have a fibreglass yacht. 1. Were you painting a non-skid paint over an area that was already non-skid? 2. Did you prime over the whole surface first? My Black Soo has a moderately chaddy degraded deck, but it is ply with (I think epoxy over the ply), but I want to give it a 52nd birthday present of a new paint job. I don't think that I will have access to the Pettit products.

Thanks for this video! I think I’ll feel confident now... I have wooden deck floor under carpet in my bow rider. I plan on pulling up the carpet (it’s all worn down), my question is do you think this process will work on a wooden deck floor? Ideally I’d like to have a non slip deck and applying a teak decking sheet sporadically for aesthetic decoration.

Hi Captain! I think we have the same boat. Is yours a Cal 29? I am so grateful for you an people like you who share their experience and knowledge. Thank you so much! I have never really been a handy person, when I owned a home I would call a handyman, but I want to be more self sufficient and now that I am a boat owner and don't have a lot of money and don't have a steady job, I need to do stuff myself. My boat is definitley in disrepair and needs a lot of work. I have been planning on painting it this summer. Now that I have some money I am planning on starting this weekend. Do you happen to know how much you spent on this project? You may have already had the tools. I believe I need to buy a sander and the other tool you used. I have to rewatch the video, I don't remember the name of it. When I rewatch your video I will definitely take notes. Thanks again! I hope you are well!

Hello Shannon, thank you for watching. My boat is a 1974 Islander, 30ft. I used Pettit EZ-Poxy and it took about 2 qt of the white and 2 qt of the non-skid and 2 qt of primer., around $40 per qt of each, the other cost was the paint rollers, paint pan, and some other misc items, Oh and 1 tube of Pettit Flexpoxy 7076 for repairing the stress cracks and other damage. The prep was the hardest part, Everyone who walks by and knew how the book looked before loves the it. Next year i am going to do the hull :) I am sure you will do a great job,
