One more excellent video! Thanks Lorraine! I'd love a video in which you show us how you cut out masking tape shapes that are more intricate and large.

It's hard to get smooth masking lines with masking fluid on cold press paper ,I get a better result on smooth paper, colour shapers are a good way to apply masking fluid ,they have silicone tips ,and it just peels off,how do you manage the watercolour worm around edges after several layers? Thanks for sharing your process.

Mask on Cold press can be harder to get clean edges. I have colour shapers and like them to apply the mask, as well. Yes, you can get a darker shape if the color pools around the mask. I usually lift the drying color with a damp brush if it is darker. Maybe it is a difference between the hot and cold paper because I don't notice the "worm" on cold press very much.

What’s the name of that gadget you used to apply the masking fluid, please?

I am probably using my plastic hors d'oeuvre pick taped to a pencil. I also will use a "clay shaper" tool with a rubber tip to apply mask.

I would suggest a ruling pen filled with watercolour paint or masking fluid to create straight lines. Another way to restore staining colours to white is to mask off the area around it with packaging tape and using a damp magic eraser, flattening the fibres afterwards with the back of a spoon. I would like to know how to create neat lettering on shop signs and the like for street scenes. I have always found it difficult to produce neat results.

Good suggestions Douglas. I have done both before. I haven't had much luck with the ruling pen and masking fluid, though.

15:11 I am struggling with getting a smooth color like you did on the lower two flowers. Is there a video you could point me to on your channel? I have been practicing my water control a lot so that has helped but I still get gradients when it dries.

Sometimes getting smooth washes can be the amount of water in the pigment and on your brush. It could also be the brush. If it's a synthetic bristle - you may have to go back for paint more often and some synthetic bristles lift color because they are so dry. If your paper and paint are student grade vs artist/professional grade that can also cause stripes or uneven washes. Here is one of my videos that talks about different ways to create an object that might help kzbin.info/www/bejne/poHUlKt5Zqxgp7ssi=u1bclS3tyC0ThW8c
