I have tears in my eyes as I listen to you talk about the people you have lost touch with over the years. It’s incredible how people can touch your life and your heart. I was a military wife for many many years which required us to move about every two years. I had very close friends in each place I lived, and can still remember how sad I felt to leave them. Needless to say, it was very difficult for my children to leave their friends over and over again. You have such a lovely spirit and I find great joy painting and listening to you. I also enjoy your sense of humor. Thank you for sharing your gift of painting and for sharing yourself. You are a blessing.

Oh. How nice to hear someone say nice things about Americans. Thank you. You have lived in so many places!! I wish I could meet you. Please keep telling your stories.

I think that a lot of people confuse Americans with America. I think of the nation of America as being a bit too big and powerful, and so I understand why some people say "I don't like America" but individual Americans have always seemed to me to be friendly, kind-hearted and generous and there's no reason not to love them. Just my opinion, for what it's worth! And I will keep telling my tales from the treasure chest of memory, for sure! Thanks for your kind comments Nancy, best wishes and best of health with love from France xx

I've watched Dylan Hollis. He is so funny. I love watching you paint. Sometimes late in the night or early in the a.m. I wake up and have trouble getting back to sleep. I turn on your video and start watching until my eyes get heavy. The music and your voice and stories help me too relax and even when I can't keep my eyes open anymore, I listen til you get done or I doze off. It's a very peaceful channel imo. Sorry if that seems weird. But if I'm not listening to something peaceful my brain won't shut up. I'm from the US. Thanks for the kind words. This is the only place I've ever lived. I want to thank you so much for today. I loved the tips about swatching out the colors in advance and in another spot seeing how they blend to see if we like it as I’m sure the quality of the colors can also effect their blending. Your tips about the eye level with the beak, and the heads being round and the body’s oval and even about the feet being large and the legs scaly were all so helpful. As I’m a bird lover and have raised pheasant chicks, and have had chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, I have seen many bird’s feet and legs and did remember with a chuckle when you mentioned it. I also want to say I smiled inwardly when you were talking about chickens and then talked about painting the chicken legs brown as I felt like I was sitting with a close friend and we were painting and chatting away and we both would say things like that, but it didn’t matter as the other knew what was meant. You have taught me so much about watercolor and in such a manner I am really looking forward to making my own “A bird a day, Keeps the blues away” journal with all you’ve taught me once the construction in my basement is finished and my art/craft area can be set up. I am from Canada- western Canada and when I was young I loved to create, draw, write poetry, design clothes and my passion was COLOR, nature, and animals. I wanted to pursue a degree in Fine Arts, but being from a farm family, Fine Arts didn’t assure one for a job when you graduated from University so I changed to becoming a teacher. While attending university, I signed up to take an Art class from the Edmonton Art Gallery- A VERY large and prestigious Galley. Our instructor I could not believe was an artist himself as his manner was so stilted. His first assignment was to draw something or other I can’t remember, but he instructed us that to draw properly, one must start our drawing at one point and then continue to draw without lifting our pencils off the page. The drawing should be one continuous line because that is how real artists make drawings. I was crushed as that is not how I drew the many pictures I’d done. I tried very hard to draw how he instructed but I became very stressed and no longer enjoyed drawing. Worse yet, I became convinced I could never become an artist of any kind so I quit the class and never drew anything again. I’m now 59. Today especially, i felt like I was sitting with a friend or group of friends learning how to paint a beautiful scene of watercolor birds and there were no RULES to follow, just enjoyment with COLOR, nature, animals and great company and I was totally relaxed with my new favourite friend who happened to also be my favourite instructor- The kind of instructor I wished I’d have had so many years ago. Thank you so much Diane, I look forward to our get togethers, our chatting among friends and I love hearing the birds and chickens in the background when we meet.You’re one in a million!

Hi Patricia and thanks for your very interesting message. I can relate very much to your story, because I was in the same situation as a child. I was determined from age 3 to be an artist when I grew up, but we were a very poor London family and it wasn't the kind of job that just anyone could get in those days. I think I might have made it to art school if my parents hadn't got divorced when I was 14, but everything went topsy turvy at that point and my education went to pot really. I ended up eventually training to be a teacher, but not until I'd got married and had two children! My art went very much on the back burner until many years later. But as it turned out it was all for the best, as this youtube channel has reached so many people and made a few much happier, and that has got to be the best thing I've ever done. Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, and welcome to the family!

Love your stories and this sweet art. Just so adorable! I'm sorry to hear about the illnesses in your community and the passing of your neighbor. I understand what you mean about being tired of moving, but all the experiences and places you've been... I bet these have been so enriching. My mother told me the same thing after I told her that between growing up and now, I've moved at least 39 times, mostly related to job transfers. If not for that, I probably would have spent my life so far, living in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Instead, I've had the adventures of also living in various communities of Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Colorado, Massachusetts, Alabama and Texas and have visited and explored all but 10 or 11 states. I love the diversity of our country. 🇺🇲 💕😊
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow Linda, you can obviously relate to my peregrinations around the world and over the years as you have lived in so many different places too! The one country I haven't been able to really explore but would have liked to is the United States. It is indeed a wonderfully diverse country and I can understand why some Americans (not all, of course) rarely travel outside the continent. The French are similar, they don't tend to travel abroad in the way the rest of Europe does. The Smoky Mountains sound so romantic, how could anyone not want to live there! I've been to Florida a few times, to California several times and to Washington State which we visited when we were living in Canada, and always enjoyed my visits to the US. Best wishes and best of health to you with love, Diane x
@lindafine21552 жыл бұрын
@@DianeAntoneStudio I think it's really wonderful that you've been able to visit the United States several times and such beautiful states, too! The current world situation has really diminished traveling for so many of us, but I still have that wanderlust, you know? Perhaps you'll have another opportunity to visit the U.S. again. Yes, by all means, if you do get the chance, please visit the Appalachian areas of the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains and the gorgeous Smoky Mountains away from the touristy areas is best throughout the National Parks and Blue Ridge Parkway. I am very intrigued by other countries, especially various rural areas of the UK, rural Japan and Marche, Italy seems very lovely. We just have a beautiful world even with all the not so good aspects. God created such perfection that will always amaze me!

I now have what I describe as a "Mid-Atlantic Accent" owing to my lack of roots, and that coupled with my tendency to mimic accidentally the accents I hear, leaves people bemused about my origin! I can still talk in my birth-voice though, which is Cockney London, mate!

Hi, i love your ramblings and reminisces (is that a word?) i find it sometimes, no often, i cannot express my feelings when i see something wrong being said. I’m told I’m too “picky” but words are important; wether a description or an explanation, some channels i do not watch anymore due to obvious errors or misnomers. So don’t stop saying how & what you feel, you are speaking for others as well👍 P.s. i also love your paintings 🙂 take care…
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann-Ingrid, your comment made me think. Thanks so much for sharing your feelings with me: you are so right about the importance of words, they bring things into existence, make ideas solid, so we should be so careful about the way we use words and make sure we get the meaning right. Take care and keep well, love from me in France xx

There are a lot of people on you tube that set themselves up as “teachers”, who are self-taught and really don’t know what they are talking about. I’ve seen it in several areas- art, sign language, sewing, psychology, history, etc. So you have the choice of just shining them on or arguing with them in comments-and most of the time they won’t be convinced of anything and make you look petty. It’s annoying but I guess it’s better to let them go on in the land of “ignorance is bliss”.

Diane, Thank you so much for your lessons. I painted this yesterday and for a change I actually like a painting that I did. Usually I mess it up in some way, but your instruction is very clear and easy to follow. I wonder if you would do a flower in a pot sometime? I really enjoy all of your videos!

So sorry I didn't reply to this comment when you made it two months ago. Saw it today, and thank you so much for your kindness. It means a great deal. Yes, since then I've done an orchid in a pot, and I'm going to do more flowers in pots this spring/summer!

As a beginner I can honestly say you've abselutly made this far less a challenge than I could ever have imagined!! Many thanks; from Central Yukon.

Gorgeous painting. Love how the colors blend & create certain textures; they just do their own thing.

Thanks so much Debbie, I really appreciate your comments, so kind. It's true, reminiscing is a good thing, as long as only good memories come up! My time in Bermuda was formative and restorative for me and I should revisit those memories more often xxx

Love watching you paint Diane, it's so relaxing 😌, I might start painting one day ☺😁 As a complete novice, I would like to ask you a question, which to many will have a seemingly obvious answer..., why do you make a colour swatch before you start a new painting, and do you keep those as a reference for later on? Many thanks Diane, so inspiring 💜 Flo x
