I have just started Painting Dark Angels and this is by far and above the most useful guide I have found and I have looked at a lot. I am not a lover of edge highlighting but found the way this is explained and the colours used so helpful I thought that I would give it a go. I am not the best painter but keep watching this to help. 54 years young and can still learn from other. I have used Vallejo Air Camouflage Dark Green a nice green for my models. Find Caliban too thick and GW pots annoying.

Hi Bob - I normally use a Winsor & Newton Series 7 - size 1 and 0. If you go looking for one make sure you avoid the miniature version - it's not for miniatures, it jsut has a much shorter brush that doesn't hold as much paint

Hey there, absolutely love your videos. m just starting to do commission painting and ive used alot of your techniques for my first project. I was wondering what contrast paint to use to pin shade space wolves ?
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate thanks for leaving a comment and good luck with the commission work! I find it so rewarding! As for shading space wolves grey, depends on how dark you want it - unthinned space wolves grey may actually work, or black templar for a cleaner look If you wanted a dirtier look you could try wyldwood or skeleton horde maybe
@MegaSpektre4 жыл бұрын
@@ThePaintingCoach yes i used the black templar thinned down with the medium looks very crisp. Are you planning any tutorials on battle damage and weathering?

I might do later on - I'm coming to the point where I may do more 'technique' videos like that!

Those highlights are downright clean! One question though: how would you do the robes that a lot of Dark Angels characters wear? I always worry that they won't look different enough from the eagle and blend in too much.
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I guess you're relying on the different texture on the model to separate them - or you coukd use something like rakarth flesh as the base, which is a little more desaturated than the bone used on the armour

Just started painting. What size brush u recommend for the layering fine details like when u did warpstone green.. And how u keep such a nice point.
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Matthew - i use a Winsor & Newton series 7, size 0 and size 1 mainly - to keep the point i always drag and twist the brush into a point on my palette It's the tip that's most important on your brush - so make sure you get one that has a good one - GW brushes and cheap synthetic brushes tend to lose their tip quickly

I always comment on people who paint 1st Legion. I've got to admit I'm not a fan of the Moot Green final step, especially as much of it as you applied, I think it ends up looking to stark! It looks like a Necron, with the very dark colour and then suddenly that super bright green around the outside edge. I did like how that bone contrast paint ended up looking on the Aquillia, can you put Nuln over that contrast paint and will it still come out looking similar? You have the patience of a Saint panelling all the gaps in the plates... lol... I just Nuln Oil my entire model and go back and apply Caliban over the plates!
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment - i think the moot green just gives it that extra pop on the tabletop - potentially a green glaze would tone it down though! The nuln oil will work fine on the aquila - it will look a little darker and dirtier perhaps And yeah rank and file i'll probably put nuln oil all over and work back up - especially as I would have airbrushed the base coat haha
