I have a light beige fabric upholstered chair that is covered in stains. It has not held up well but the fabric is smooth and in tact and so is the structure. I was going to get rid of it and looking at $500 or so for a decent fabric upholstered chair and 1k for a good leather chair. I think I'm going to do this. Thanks so much for the well done video.

I have a new, beige loveseat that I’ve been wanting to paint. Shopping online during the pandemmy - I wanted cream but ended up with beige. 😐 Did you pre wet the fabric or just dip as you painted? Given the leather like finish, do you think white or cream would work? Or should I go dark, like a smokey charcoal?
@floorrejects64883 жыл бұрын
I pre wet the fabric and dipped as I went, but I think one or the other will work! If it were me, I would go with charcoal just because darker colors tend to hide any mistakes! But you could also try a two tone look, I’m working on a video for that right now!

Floor Rejects Thanks for your response!! I ended up going with a smoky black. I just finished the second coat today. It’s feeling pretty rough right now. The “original” fabric is canvas. Is it necessary to sand in between coats, or before waxing? Or will the wax kind of soften that by making it feel leathery? I used Annie Sloan chalk paint, and picked up a clear Annie Sloan wax to finish. I’m going to do a third coat before waxing. Just wondering if I need to sand?
@floorrejects64883 жыл бұрын
@@OhSoMeka I sand in between layers just to keep everything smooth. If the fabric you start with is rough/textured, it’s still going to carry some of the texture over to the painted fabric but sanding does help to smooth things out. The wax should also add some softness and slipperiness to the fabric!

If you’re painting over a smooth fabric you’ll end up with a smooth, leather-like finish! So you lose some of the flexibility of the fabric but not too much. The color is Roasted Pumpkin by Krylon in Chalky Paint

Here's a thought for you. I also have a fake leather chair that is peeling really badly. Do you have any fixes or ideas on that? Sanding and then painting?
@floorrejects64883 жыл бұрын
I would say that if it’s peeling too badly there may not be much you could do by way of painting it. If all the leather is still there you could try an upholstery repair kit (they usually make them for car seats). Sanding might work if you got the edges of the damaged leather reaaaaaaally smooth but I haven’t tried any super damaged fabrics
