You can mist with rubbing alcohol to help the paint to sink in better lowers the surface tension of the paint and allows it to flow better

Good idea, I think the alcohol would work like a disinfectant kind of *(extra protection from possible mold growth and odors)* say from the moisture put in the foam material?

I just tried this over the weekend on the bottom cushion of a chair. I have NEVER tried to do this before and it turned out great! Thank you for the detailed video - I watched it several times before starting and played through each step during the process. I just ordered more supplies so that I can continue on to the rest of the chair!!! I can't get over how wonderful it turned out!!!

Hi Denise, I love how your project turned out and I am going to try your techniques and materials to do the same to the cushions of 2 island chairs that came with the house we bought. They are in great shape - no need to reupholster- but look a bit dirty and dated. I am thinking of painting the frame black or copper (its metal). I am imagining it will go well with the cushions painted leather-like. 😃 thanks again so much! Happy Holidays!

Agree. It's tricky to get an idea of alternative paint & wax when a brand is shown, rather than explaining what type of paint is used. You can get Anne Sloan paint and wax in Australia, but it's quite expensive. I don't know if normal acrylic/latex paint can be used for this purpose instead.

@@nikkieyeque I've used a variety of brands and I know AS Chalk Paint works beautifully for this technique. If you'd like to try a normal acrylic/latex water-based paint, possibly a Fabric Medium could help. ?? If you’re not familiar with this product, Fabric Medium is a milky liquid. You add it to a water-based latex or acrylic paint prior to painting textiles. Its purpose is to keep the fabric feeling soft and flexible. There are a number of brand names to choose from like Martha Stewart, Plaid, Delta, Liquitex, and Americana to name a few. :)

@@nikkieyeque I've just watched a video showing how to paint fabric chair seats with latex paint mixed with equal amount of fabric conditioner. Spray mist with water to damp the fabric, apply the paint mixture with a paintbrush. Leave to dry thoroughly between coats. Finish off with beeswax. Apparently this doesn't transfer to clothes, so you can sit on the seats with confidence. I don't know who the creator in the video was, but she's called Deirdre.

Hi Denise; I’m in the middle of painting a cotton fabric that looks similar to yours…except a white background with blue pinstripes and tiny red hearts. I had seen other videos of spraying fabric and watering down the paint. I have let each layer dry- a total of 4 coats of DB paint and it felt crusty, so I lightly sanded w/ fine sanding pad. It took the paint back and looked like a first coat. Discouraging. I am going to try one more time with your method. Any other tips are appreciated. I previously did a leather chair with no problems in the same color scheme. P.S. I’ve been pondering on how most furniture is scotch guarded to repel and protect from stains and water. I noticed when I started my project…as I misted the fabric, the water beaded up and it dawned on me…. Something for you and your followers to consider; which also made me think that once I noticed the water beads I should have lightly sanded under the cushion and then proceeded to see if the paint took. I look at it like scuff sanding a piece of wood furniture. Thanks for sharing and I will comment back on how round # 5 goes!
@SalvagedInspirations
@SalvagedInspirations Жыл бұрын
I'd love to hear how it turns out for you. And ya, maybe there is some sort of scotch guard or repellant that is stopping the paint from being absorbed... maybe that's why it feels crusty. ?? I hope it all works out for you! Good luck! 🙂
@tinaknutsen
@tinaknutsen Жыл бұрын
Update; definitely light sanding over the fabric helps remove the scotch guard; but you also have to sand between coats to get rid of the crusty feeling …I wouldn’t do on fabric again as to much paint (4-5 layers) and work. It’s been a few months and I didn’t seal the loveseat. It has held up fine with daily and consistent use of 4 dogs, kids, adults.

Not sure why people are using chalk paint. Can’t see why a hard paint would be better. Did you try the recipe with latex paint and fabric softener?

I painted a chair and waxed it and it looks great, but it hasn't held up the same. The seat has cracks and the original color is peaking through. Any suggestions if I can fix it? Repaint it?

hmmm I had the same problem when I painted a velvet chair. I think the fabric makes a difference. I'm not sure how you could fix it. Maybe sand and repaint??

Will the paint wear off onto your clothing... and what about waxes with pigment?
@SalvagedInspirations

No. So long as you wait until the paint and wax has cured, nothing comes off on clothes. :)

If the 6-YEAR comparison is honest and FAITHFUL, that would give the Video a substance, and it would be a nice idea. …;-)) Hope it is NOT … just so more "LIKE" are generated?
