Wow... just so cool. I just recently realized that I can paint, and paint somewhat decent. You helped me with my painting of a quetzal. it is so refreshing to know that I am not the only one out there that hacks their paint brushes. Thanks again so very very much. Good work.

I love this tutorial, the owls look great. How did you cut the brush to make the multiple tips? For the fur. Thanks!
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Ashlynn, I used a very small pair of scissors (Large ones should work as well with a steady hand), I then separated little parts of the bristles and cut a millimeter or two ever millimeter or two, depending on how many strokes you wish to create, I recommend only cutting about 2 millimeters of length off of the brush so if you mess up you can make a full clean cut and start again. I hope that wasn't to confusing, if so let me know and I will attempt to word it better, best of luck!

Hi Ryan, Just curious, to get the posture right etc. do you then have a photo reference when you paint? Great work on the fur, and getting some shine into those eyes. Feel free to step by my facebook page Art by Louise Rasmussen, and give it a like to follow updates once in a while. I usually paint nature and animals, or trying at least to practice it, so as you can imagine it's easy to get inspired by you. Recently I did an eagle, just a small one, brown and more brown is so hard to make interesting for the viewer with contrast and such (adding just a hint of colours from the surounds do help a ton too though..If you remember to do it..ahem haha.. I dont always). For future paintings I will take you up on the advise with reversed stroke technique and test that to make more depth. I'll have to look through your other videos now sometime. The clouds etc, could use abit more 'softness', if I had to give a tiny advice:) Keep up the good work!

hey i am a beginner artist i normally do abstracts but i wanted to try semi abstract semi realistic and it involves painting an owl i want to use brighter colors but am finding it hard to paint in such detail how should i go about that?
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 10 жыл бұрын
Well my first tip would be only using a brush with a tip size of 1-2 millimeters (Providing you do paint with a brush) If you're using acrylics I would also suggest watering the paint down a great deal, it will apply smoothly and you will be able to work with more detail. If you do water it down significantly I would suggest doing a couple extra layers, hope that helps!:)

@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 10 жыл бұрын
I think it might be more difficult because the layers of feathers/strokes would blend much more..however, if you don’t try you fail so go for it!:) Worst case scenario you learn something! I would suggest being really careful with the pressure you use, so when you lift the brush your strokes remain sharp and don’t blend to much! Best of luck!!
