I will MOST DEFINITELY be checking out your patreon! So I VERY recently started painting and totally by accident. I did a photo transfer of a friend’s dog and the details and color in his fur, just did not show through at all. So I thought “hmmm maybe I’ll add some acrylic paint here and there to make it pop”. Wellllllll 2 weeks later I ended up with a completely painted canvas lol. I’ve had several friends ask if I’d do their pets as well. They think I’m so talented but really, I’m just painting over what’s already there. I try to tell myself I’m not cheating, because when these transfers come out there’s always so much paper left over and MOST details are not even noticeable, especially the eyes. I try to tell myself, it’s just a quicker way to map out what I’m painting 😬 but I feel like a fraud. 🤦🏼♀️. Anyway, I LOVE your videos, they’ve helped me bring my paintings (aka photo tranfers 😂) to life! I do have a question though. I’ve only done these on wood surfaces. The first one I ever did, I sealed with mod podge, hoping it would bring some color back in (before I decided to paint it) and NOPE it did not so I painted OVER the mod podge. However, on the second pet painting, I didn’t seal it with mod podge first and it didn’t seem to catch as many details, no matter what I did. Did the mod podge act like the gesso? Is it ok if I apply the mod podge rather than the gesso? Sorry such a long post, I felt like I needed to add some context to WHY it was sealed with mod podge first lol. Also, I do not charge my friends for these paintings, it’s really just something that brings me so much joy to see their reactions. ❤❤

Beautiful detail! I am always looking to learn more!❤ I just finished a painting of my Black long hair Chihuahua "angel" baby.😢 I did her outline using the black carbon graphite paper! Love it for keeping my proportions accurate! I wish I could share her portrait with you. Now, I have to get white! I'm going to do a portrait of my Shih Tzu who's pretty much white, but with party colors and Yorkie (a chocolate with blonde highlights). 😊

I would like to learn from your full tutorials. Do you a recommended list of brushes I can order to prepare for tutorials?
@zaratomsart Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathleen, I like the Daler & Rowney brushes. I prefer to use smaller brushes so that no important sections are rushed over during the blocking in process. The main ones I use of the Daler & Rowney are the filberts, rounds and small liner/rigger brushes. I do like to use a rake brush at times to. I have a full list of 'must have supplies' on Patreon.

Can I ask, how do you keep your paint so fluid? When I try to paint small details the paint doesn't seem so leave the brush. Do you use Retarder, flow improver, slow drying medium or just water?
@zaratomsart19 күн бұрын
@anne-mariemarshall3105 I just use water. I don't like what slow dry mediums do to the consistancy of the paint. If the paint isn't leaving your brush easily then it's a sign the mixture is to thick or you don't have enough paint loaded onto the brush. Adding a small amount of water and enough paint on your brush should resolve the issue. If you're using a liner/rigger brush for example then you'll need a thinner mixture as the bristles are that much longer so it needs more to work with to create the longer brush strokes ☺️

@zaratomsart Thank you. I have 5 pugs, a Daschund and a Doberman to paint, all on the same canvas. You are correct about the mediums. Do you recommend Liquitex acrylics. I have been using Winsor Newton.
@zaratomsart19 күн бұрын
@anne-mariemarshall3105 I use Liquitex Basics and I love them. I like to work with glazes so they work really well for that. I've had to use burnt umber in the winsor & newton galeria brand and I'm not as happy with it compared to the burnt umber Liquitex yet the ultramarine blue W&N seems similar to the Liquitex. So based on that I prefer the Liquitex.

@@zaratomsart I have been having trouble with the Burnt Umber kinda breaking up and difficult to mix. I'll maybe try the Liquitex.. Thanks
@zaratomsart19 күн бұрын
@anne-mariemarshall3105 I did find it was more gloopy, if that's a word 😅. And it seems to dry quicker than the Liquitex.

May I offer a tip? Wet sanding will give an ultra smooth surface. Great for a very sharply detailed painting.
