Thank you for sharing your AMAZING talent and processes. Very helpful!! Put aside my acrylic piece for awhile for graphite drawings to get my values down better so appreciate all 3 different mediums-graphite, pastels and acrylics- that you post on! Always look forward to your next video. Beautiful work!

Thank you so much ❤️. So pleased to hear the video was helpful. That's such a great way to work. Graphite teaches us so much about values and contrast. I love working in all three mediums.

Really beautiful. I'm hoping to paint a hare-my second wildlife painting! Hope it turns out even half as fantastic as your painting (or even a quarter! 😀)

Hey, I have a video here on KZbin where I'm talking through how I use glazes, what they are etc using various painting examples. I'll pop the link here =). kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXLVhXaDiNCNrJosi=hF36gZR8TJ00QUv5

Hi there. Do you ever paint or draw freehand? Seems a common theme these day to trace everything and just colour In?
@zaratomsart
@zaratomsart Жыл бұрын
I dont ever paint directly onto my canvas without any sketch at all as I have got the background painted and I dont want to get any marks on it that shouldnt be there. So instead I always recommend to freehand the outline on a normal sheet of printer paper and then use transfer paper to put that outline on the surface. This ensures that theres not eraser lines or mistakes in the freehand sketch which may be visible on the background.
@SandraStewart-is8dv
@SandraStewart-is8dv Жыл бұрын
But actually you are not freehanding the image but rather tracing. That much is obvious. It's sometimes better just to own it and say that ones doesn't draw freehand but rather traces then colours in🤷. Not having a go just rather stating a point.
@zaratomsart
@zaratomsart Жыл бұрын
@SandraStewart-is8dv I simply stated that when I do freehand I always do that on a separate piece of cheap printer paper rather than freehand directly on my canvas. It's not a matter of owning up to anything. Yes I freehand many things, yes I trace many things as well. It depends how much time I have at that time as I'm creating so many tutorials that it's not always possible to freehand every project. When you trace an image you're not simply just colouring in. Every placement of the subtle shadows and highlights, markings on the animal which are what make up the three dimensional shape of any painting are not included in any of my freehand or traceable sketches. These are added in freehand with the brushes or pencils during the painting/drawing process as the layers are built up. I do apologise if you felt I didn't answer your first question fully or was not being honest. That was not my intention at all. I don't have any secrets in any aspects of my art. I'm always happy to answer any questions =)

Great job. I'm just curious what you think of oils as opposed to acrylics. Have you tried oils?
@zaratomsart
@zaratomsart Жыл бұрын
Oils were my primary medium years ago but I switched to acrylics because I found the slow drying time of oils frustrating. With acrylics we can keep the paint wet for as long as we need or it dries quickly which means we can work through stages faster. Since I used acrylics I haven't picked up my oils. Oils are a lovely medium but I definitely prefer the faster drying time 😊

@@zaratomsart thank you for this. I tried oil a few times and that's exactly why I didn't like it. It took a very long time to dry. I've never used acrylics so maybe ill give them a try. Thsnks agsin.
