I've had good results with light sanding followed by using Kilz Adhesion, and, like you said, LET IT DRY a few days! Great advice. For two Ikea pieces after prep, I used the Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Charcoal Water-Based Acrylic Chalk Paint for my computer desk last year, and Annie Sloan Old White Stock Paint on a bookcase that came out absolutely stunning!! Most say that you do not need to prime or sand using Chalk Paint, but going through the initial steps of sanding and using a primer will go a long way to solidifying that color on a repaint!

I will try Kilz next time! Thank you. I’m really glad you had a good experience with chalk paint! I painted a wood frame mirror and it chipped before I even hung the mirror 😂

Hello Hanna, I hope you are well. Would you share whtat kind of paint you use for the wood top on the desk?. That's the same color I want but last time I used one gave me a different tone. Thanks!

We followed all the steps, but our cabinets have chipped in a few places. I think the only thing we have have done wrong is to not leave long enough for the second coat of primer. It’s all installed in to the wall now so I really don’t want to pull them out. I might remove the doors and try re-priming and painting them as the doors have suffered most! Thanks for this excellent video!

I know it’s really frustrating when paint chips. If it’s small spots you can try doing a little touch up paint. It won’t be too noticeable

Try to sand between priming or painting layers

you talk about laminated furniture but Ikea has mostly foiled pieces now, is that what you mean? I have learned that it is easy to paint laquered furniture (ikea has some of that too) but that painting foil is not guaranteed to last?

A quick sand will go a long way to help the durability

I know sander is good, but I don’t like the dust, especially I need to finish everything inside.

What colour paint did you use?

It’s Pewter Greene, by Sherwin-Williams

You lost me at “use a deglosser and then sand.“ That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Neither does using baby wipes to remove sanding dust.

Simple? How is this simple?Sanding whole bookcase or few if you actually have a library? Gives me a headache even thinking about it..:(
