Thank you for your tutorial Len. I finished making this tonight. When i watched the video the first time, i worried if i will be able to keep up. But when i started i quickly realized you meant people to follow the general direction and not really to follow you. It helps greatly because your method shows the technique and teach me to think instead of copy. Great work!

So amazing to watch people paint. I've always enjoyed drawing in black and white over color. I'm starting to get into painting black and white and this video has been very helpful. What's neat to me is I'm used to drawing things a certain way and seeing how you approached this painting was very helpful and has definitely given me a different perspective when it comes to painting.

Thanks for the nice video! :) I Like the style you used in this video by giving the commentary live while painting, in some of your other videos it sounds like you have made a voice over, I think this feels more naturally to listen to. One small remark, maybe switch a little less to the pallet shot, you are going pretty quick between the pallet and the canvas in this video, maybe only switch to the pallet shot when you are spending a bit more time mixing the paints etc. But again thank you so much for your videos, they are very helpful for me to learn some techniques for painting and compositions. I'll look forward to your next video!

very good instructional video of black and white painting. Is there any part where you need to let it dry before proceeding further as in the foreground trees etc.. Would the painting be affected if you stopped and came back to it later or if you're like me, are a pretty slow and deliberate beginner?
@lenhend8 жыл бұрын
I always paint wet on wet but if a part of the painting dries I carry on in the same style - water and reflections need to be completed while wet.

Len Hend where do you get your fan brush?
@lenhend9 жыл бұрын
+Andrea McGahan Fan brush is very common in art supplies stores in Australia and Thailand There is now a soft haired fan brush available - it is too soft for oils and acrylics - no good Often an old small house painting brush with bristles sticking out in all directions can be used like a fan brush for painting grass - cheers

really great painting... only using two colours.... as always thank you for great explanations in you're lessons... Mr Len can you tell me what kind of brush you use? The big one that you use for trees and mostly for every picture... is it filbert but big size or?.... because I'm confused it looks like filbert but is a little bit fat for filbert or maybe I have mistaken...
@lenhend8 жыл бұрын
I think you are referring to the round hog bristle brush for the tree foliage - it is not available in some countries and it does not have a point on the end of the bristles - a common 3/4 inch house painting brush is just as good - you will find lots about brushes on my 'paint with len' website - cheers

Do you thin your paint with water? My acrylic is thick as toothpaste and doesnt work like yours does. What kind of brush for tree foliage and clouds?
@lenhend6 жыл бұрын
Scoot - this painting is unusual, I used a thin paint for the black - didn't have enough black paint so I added ink. Usually I don't thin the paint and it is like toothpaste. You can thin it with water for acrylics and kerosene for oils. If your colors are of all the same consistency all is ok but if you undercoat is thin and other paint is thick the brush will pick up the undercoat instead of laying paint over it. Brush - round hog bristle - if not available use a small house painting brush and trim it with scissors Much information on PaintwithLen dot com.

@lenhend9 жыл бұрын
+Andrea McGahan Andrew this doesn't happen with thicker paint - my paint is about as thick as toothpaste and when I hold the palette vertical the paint does not run. You rub the masking tape on hard and see if that helps - cheers

May I ask what is the black liquid your using and how to mix it
@lenhend7 жыл бұрын
It was some black ink that came from the discharge bottle in the back of my printer, mixed with a little water and some black paint I had for backdrops - you could use any water based black paint as long as it is not too runny
