Thank you both for the work that you do. I went to university to study fine art, and unfortunately all of my lecturers throughout the 3 years were concept/performance/writing based. I get from you what I wished I got from them - some technical painting insight, but of utmost importance, hearing a painter speak enthusiastically about their journey and their love for their craft is a huge boon. I'm only on week 7 so far but I just wanted to stop by here to say thanks, I'm really learning a lot about painting and I'm sure others are too. Thank you and I wish you both all the best!

Now you're talking about what Ive been working on 👍👍👍 I love the contrast I get working with this limited pallette of just black and white. I'm glad you mentioned Sophie's work as well because like you I think she's gotten to the core of truth when it comes to how we see light and shadow. It started with me years ago as a draftsman working with graphite and charcoal then grissialle painting opened up this door to light and shadow contrast . I'm not opposed to colors but I've learned about optical mixing from the old italian masters and to me the form and contrast has always been dear to me . Many thanks to many painted lives , as you are one of my go videos for great portrait work. Peace profound 🌟

As a photographer who works mostly in monochrome,I absolutely adore this self portrait. Perfect tones.

Super interesting to see your thought-process here. You once painted this super low contrast, grey selfportrait and recently I tried to paint in that style myself. So this video answers some questions I asked myself when I tried that

Me encanta oírte, me motivas tanto... Me ayudas a ser menos exigente conmigo. Me encantó eso que dijiste de que" si no sirve no pasa nada mañana pintaremos algo diferente "

Una pequeña pregunta... you seem to often do your initial drawings in colored pencil. Is this just a preference or is there an intention behind this (i.e. it smudges or lifts less than graphite)? As always, thank you so much for everything you share with us! Best regards!:)

Yes! sometimes, especially when I do prime my surface and apply a transparent acrylic binder, I do love the way the water-soluble color pencil bleeds. But I also just like the soft quality of the pencils so I prefer them when drawing :)

Hey I was just wondering what kind of brushes you’re using (the type of hair). Loving the strokes created in your painting! :)
