Loving the intro ! I was wondering how you made it. I received my Hero 4 Silver btw, I love it, the only thing I havent figured out is the difference between the Gopro color and the flat setting with the protune
@Getawaymoments10 жыл бұрын
Most people will want to use GoPro color. The flat setting is for people who do color correction and fine tuning in post. GoPro color is the cameras best guess at the right exposure and color balance. Flat color is a better foundation to build a custom look.

San S It used to only have one ISO setting, it's hard to make good tutorials when they are constantly changing the user interface. But more settings mean more control so we can do more fun things with these cameras. When I first did light painting with Hero3 people thought I was crazy ..... now we have nightlapse/nightshot!

Please can you do a video on how to do time lapse from light to dark, I am having a nightmare spent hours trying to get sunset and stars just not getting settings right thanks 👍
@Getawaymoments10 жыл бұрын
Under the current firmware you can not really do a sunset to stars time-lapse. the best you can do is shoot a night-lapse with the shutter set "auto" Unfortunately at this time, the auto setting will only allow the camera to shoot at a maximum shutter of 2 seconds, not really long enough to get good star shots. I have sent a note to GoPro asking if this can be changed, cross your fingers. Until then try the "auto" shutter and see what the results look like. Good Luck.

Michael McCray Hum ..... I am not the right person to dispense this advice. It all depends on what operating system you are used to, which editing application you might know. Hi. I want to apply this on fourth of July while the fireworks launch at the same time as the sunset (Fireworks start at 8:00 PM, Sunset is at 8:33 PM). What settings do you recommend i use?
@Getawaymoments9 жыл бұрын
Fireworks at dusk are tricky. First, shoot fireworks in nightlapse, use protune. Set the ISO to 100. You want the longest exposure concidering the background light. You will have to experiment, and the backgtound light will be changing as the fireworks are happening. I would start with a 15 second exposure. Do a test shot right before the show, if it is overexposed shorten the exposure time, if the shot is dark lengthen the exposure time. Once you find a good looking setting, start the nightlapse and let it run. Later you can pick the best still photos or make a timelapse.

@Getawaymoments9 жыл бұрын
+akijazz05 You need to be in a pitch black room or location. You want to use the 30 second shutter speed, longest possible. Adjust ISO to dial in the exposure. I would start with ISO 100. Try that ...... good luck!

Have you updated the firmware since you got the camera? Some of those problems have been fixed, if you have the new firmware and your still having that problem you need to report it to GoPro support. Sorry your having problems.
@TheRMAraggaz2310 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your reply. I've been testing it and it allows me to change ISO but with the buttons not with the touchpad. My other problem with it is that, when you go to video mode, if I want to enable night mode or i don't know what's exactly the name it says N/D and doesn't let me switch it on, but as I say, it's not even in off, it just says N/D is it normal? Thanks for your help and patience!
@Getawaymoments10 жыл бұрын
TheRMAraggaz23 Does it say N/D or N/A? Cause mine says N/A on some features, which mean it's not applicable, ie this is not functional on this setting. You are using Hero4 Silver? And you updated the firmware?

Hi I am new at this if its every 30 sec that means it will take only one picture every 30 seconds? I am interested on do in it putting my daughters name how do I need to do it? thanks a lot great video
@Getawaymoments9 жыл бұрын
Yes, 1 photo every 30 seconds or two photos a minute. To write her name in light will take practice, but it will be fun. You will need a very dark location, set the camera up get infront of it and start writing with your flashlight. It will take trail and error to figure it out. You need to write backwards so it looks right to the camera. Good Luck!

How do you put the pictures together in order to make a video?
@Getawaymoments8 жыл бұрын
It is usually done in editing. I use a professional editor called Avid. But GoPro offers a free suite of editing applications for free, search KZbin for how to edit a time-lapse with GoPro Studio. But, basically you import all your still images into a video editor as a video clip. All editors do it but do it slightly differently. shop.gopro.com/softwareandapp

+Getawaymoments i dont get the difference between night time lapse and night photo when doing this. can you explain? thanks!
@Getawaymoments8 жыл бұрын
+J Tax Its all about timing. Night photo is just shooting one photo. Night-lapse is shooting a continuous series of photos until you stop the camera. You can use the App or remote to trigger night photo but triggering the camera at the exact moment can be tricky, and takes practice. If you are going to do random light painting you can set the camera to night-lapse and it will continuously shoot still photos until you stop the camera and then pick your favorite photo from several options. I always use night-lapse and pick my favorite its just easier.
@TaxxaT8 жыл бұрын
Ok, great. Thanks for the reply. I have 1 more quick question. After I did the night-lapse photo, I imported it into the GoPro software. When I pressed play, the video went super fast and was over in a blink of an eye, even though the video I took was several seconds if not over a minute long. Is that normal? Do I just need to slow the vid down while editing? Thanks again for your help!
@Getawaymoments8 жыл бұрын
+J Tax How many photos did you shoot? Video runs at 30 frames per second. So thirty photos(frames) will only get you about one second of video. You could slo mo the frames you do have but fewer frames mean the lapse will be more hitch ...ie.

Best tutorial yet! Two questions: 1. The first time I did it, the glow around me was blue (same light source-iPhone flash). The 2nd-10th time it was yellowish. Do you know why this is? I liked the blue look more 2. Would you recommend the same settings for a firework show? Looking to recreate this exact image. news.utexas.edu/sites/news.utexas.edu/files/know/images/2014/commencement_recap/Commencement-2014-fireworks-by-Marsha_12596_570wide_2.jpg Or would the night time lapse be better than a single photo? Thanks!!!
@Getawaymoments9 жыл бұрын
Kevin Ho Thanks! 1. It sounds like you had camera set to 3000k the first time and 5600k the second. Do you have the photos posted so I can see them? 2. Fireworks are a challenge. You will have to do a few quick test shots to noodle the exposure. I would definitely use night-lapse mode for fireworks. Shoot a ton of shots pick the best one! Recreating the linked image will be tough. It looks like it was shot with a DSLR It also looks like a composite But don't let that stop you. I would visit that spot one night before the show and see what the night exposure would be for the tower. Then you won't have to struggle with that the night of the show. And yes the tower exposure will force what exposure you use for fireworks Good Luck!

How to set go pro 4 silver to captured steel wool shots?
@Getawaymoments10 жыл бұрын
I have not done any steel wool shots but I would start with night photo or night-lapse either will work. Set the ISO for 100, shutter for 15 seconds to start. White balance 3000k. Do one with this setting, if its too dark move up to 20 then 30 seconds. If it's over exposed move down to 5 seconds or even 2 seconds. If you choose night photo you have to be careful when you start the camera, timing is crucial. I may be easier to do night lapse, shoot a series of photos and pick the best, delete the black frames. Good luck, send me a link if you get something cool.

Is there a possible way to do this this effect with gopro 3+ black? :-)
@Getawaymoments10 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The Hero4's have a new feature called night lapse that allows for manual shutter speeds. The Hero3+ does not have that feature ... but you can shoot a time-lapse at night with the interval time-lapse mode and the camera will automatically open wide up with a shutter speed of about a half second. So you will get the blurring effect, just not as much as the Hero4. Its worth a test.

You need to turn Protune "on" To get that feature. Also is your firmware up to date?

protune is on, I can change everything else, just not the iso. I will try and update my camera and see if it fixes the problem. Thanks
