Hey man. I did this as an exercise with acrylics and it came out great. Thanks for teaching me an easy way to paint this type of metal / texture and also introducing me to armor painting =D. Super inspiring! Thanks for sharing!

It’s great that you’re uploading videos like this! The streams are brilliant, but as something to go back to for reference these videos are perfect.

Can you make a video on how you work with references and if there's a proper or simple ways to use them. I've tried using references but most of the time I'm having problem transferring (textures, material effects, etc) from the reference to the painting.

I have a video entitled References that covers several points on the topic. Why are you finding it difficult to reproduce the referenced materials (so I better understand)?

I think it's how the light and shadow affect the materials that I'm having difficulties with. If i have a leather material reference or rusty metal (like what you painted in this video) I have the feeling that I need to do a little bit more research on how these things react to light rather than just looking at their reference. In most cases the concept I have in mind has a different light setup and color, where my reference has a difference light setup as well.

Important note here is that you don't just follow recipes to paint something but observe reference, understand it and then paint it

Thank you! Do you think you could make a video about paneling? Like how mechs, droids, etc. Are detailed with panels to contour the forms that make them? Thanks, love your content!!!!

I hadn't considered that but I'll add it to the list. Is there a particular issue about rendering them you find difficult or interesting?

amazing! i've been realizing through watching these that i never use burn and dodge. any good resources on how to factor those into your workflow?
@Swatches
@Swatches 6 жыл бұрын
They essentially do the same thing as the Levels palette (adjusting the values within a range) but you paint with it instead of a blanket application like Levels. I use it mostly to punch up highlights or deepen darks but only if it's a small adjustment. Large value changes likely require a change of color chroma and saturation as well and when Dodge/Burn are used too heavy-handedly it results in fake, fuzzy shadows and lights.

Clint, do you have a discord?
@Peteru69
@Peteru69 6 жыл бұрын
Swatches discord, yes. But it's pretty empty these days and Clint has no mods which is a huge problem now and again. People come in and spam-troll (not sure why or how they figured that it was a good idea when other art communities never experience any trolling). I don't remember if I got access through Patreon or Facebook (or the video description of another video). But it's useful when doing the weekly challenged. I think he's busy these days. And probably has a hard time finding trust-worthy mods.
