I think your rocks turned out great. I appreciate you taking the time to make and pay the video, it really helps someone like me who has never done it before. I'm scared to death to start! I do have a "practice" mountain so will start on that to learn how things will go. Again, thanks for sharing!

Hello. I would like to thank you for your fine videos. I am a 71 year old ho modeler and have been involved in the hobby since age 11 so that's 60 years of experience. It's so good to see a young person involved in the hobby that seems to be slowly dying out in both America and Europe. Keep up the good work because your efforts may be a help to young modelers just getting started in model railroading. I would love to hear back from you about how you got started in the hobby and where you are located.

Hello. Sorry for replying so late... I really appreciate your nice comment. :) I started with the hobby when I was about 7 years old, 11 years ago... And I still love it and making videos about it. I'm finally done with school work for the year, so expect a lot of videos in the coming months!

You are sooooo right! DON'T overthink it. I have been overthinking and watching videos for the last two months on how to color my cliffs for a rainforest diorama, and I have been so terrified of screwing things up because of all the work that went into the build thus far. I have never made a diorama before, and I'm not a good painter. However, yesterday I applied a light brown base coat over all of the rocks. And today I finally painted the upper portion of my mountain with these techniques. So I mixed up some washes of colors that I wanted and said to myself, here goes nothing. After I put the first wash on, I went to the second wash and then the third wash. At that point, things were looking great, but also I figured, that mother nature is very forgiving in the fact that colors seem to just run and blend together. So really, you can't screw it up if you have a good technique and colors that blend well together. I'm still a little nervous about the lower section as they are sheer cliffs about 13" tall and about 3'0" long. The upper rocks were only 3" tall and about 8" long. But now I have more confidence to tackle the waterfall cliffs of the Amazon! By the way, your rocks look great!!

You don't have to think so much, you make very beautiful and realistic railways and landscapes! you are not alone in doubting and not starting a project ;-) I can airbrush photorealistic, but I keep doubting my abilities! and every time I airbrush something it is still beautiful and the people are very enthusiastic. Now i have learned a lot from you, and am glad to have found your channel!

Different levels of humidity can certainly affect the density of the gypsum or plaster. On the wash method being irreversible; well you may be right for the dispersal part into the gypsum. However, when an area doesn’t fully agree with the colors added, a layer of gesso or other primer can definitely help to adjust the mistakes made. For Hydrocal buildings or structures it’s often necessary to fill some of the gaps between different slabs with some putty or small amounts of filler. This will also often affect the dispersal of paint on the treated areas. There too, a primer or gesso will be able to even out the difference. Or, afterwards, adjustments can be made by adding some over the first layers of paint, after which it can be corrected to one’s liking. Still, a great vid. Cheerio
