Hey Vince, the irony of this video for me is, I was recently trying to figure this out while painting a few days ago. I really appreciate that you do videos like this, often when I’m stuck you are the first place I go to see what you have to say on the technique in question. I know it’s hard to do more content like this, because of views as you said, but when you do I’ll always watch and be thankful

PICKLES! I love you, Vince - your style, your passion, your way of explaining and encouraging us mortal painters. I've been painting minis for over 30 years (with breaks), and my moving red bar never met yours - my best minis are still below your worst ;-) I still enjoy your tips and advice, and trying a new trick or method on the next mini keeps this hobby always interesting. I will remember this video next time I see scale mail! (though I might just double slap chop it and add a few extra highlights ... =D )

Pickles! I believe I've pickles for every HC video you've ever done. While I didn't start watching till shortly before you did your first video covering the color purple. During the time between then and now I went to the very first HC video, bad video & sound and watched them all. Out of all the miniature painters on KZbin, you are the one I recommend the most to anyone I meet who wants to learn any specific topic or techniques. This is because you always give such detailed explanations on each video as to exactly the how you are doing something along with the why.

Pickles ❤. Also what are your thoughts on using different varnish to sell different effects? I.e. maybe putting satin or gloss over nmm to sell the effect further?
@VinceVenturella19 күн бұрын
In general, it won't sell. It's actually counter-productive to the illusion, because it creates unwanted reflections and light where you have placed shadows or so on.
@tychoMX21 күн бұрын
Pickles are good, but not as good as the specular reflection at the tip of every scale. Very clever idea to continue selling the credibility of these materials.

Doing my part. In any case, I always think about where light would reflect to the viewer’s eyes based on the type of light source. I guess, I assume that the metal surface is like a mirror (more or less scratched up) and think of bounce lights as things in the scene reflecting towards the viewer. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for your insights.
