When i saw it on the community site, I legit thought it was metallic paint and nothing jumped out at me. Brilliant work.

What a final result. Your NMMs truly feel like they belong on a big canvas in a museum. Thanks for the tutorial Richard, I'm always scared to do big surfaces of the same material because I don't feel I can make them look good if I don't bring more variety to it, but you made the entire golden armor look amazing.

I’ve watched a few of Richard’s NMM videos now, and it always blows my mind just how ugly his ugly phase is compared to how stunning it looks when done. There’s a magical moment when the highlights start dropping, and the meta starts to snap into focus. 👏

Zinc White pw4 is a transparent white with 1/10 the opacity of the titanium white pw6 used most commonly. I use liquitex heavy body transparent mixing white, needs to be thinned with water but this solves the problem of chalkiness at the expense of coverage. Added bonus is it doesn’t desaturate as much.

Balor Brown being particularly opaque for being a layer paint, must be because it contains mainly Yellow Ochre or PY42 which is a naturally opaque pigment.

That first stage of just blopping on the ugly highlight on the model - disregarding all the recesses - really is the definition of 'Trust the process". No black-lining, and still everything is so easily readible in the end.

Amazing video! Can I ask what you do with outward facing parts that aren't catching the light? Like halfway around the shoulder pad, do you highlight it up at all, and if so in what way? I've tried nmm a few times and I think I keep giving too many areas highlights, but I don't really know what to do with the areas that are prominent, yet not receiving a glimmer.

This technique should only be done by those who are master level painters, I'm at a mediocre level so I'd just pull out the Vallejo metallics and hope for the best!!

Just realized something. The pools of paint on your pallet are relatively large (and flat). Would it not make more sense to make them smaller (and thicker) so the paint won't dry as fast? I mean the same amount of paint, but less smeared out.

The Morrow White looks quite soft on the pallete. Is that why you choose it? I really struggle with the brightness jump when I add White Scar or Vallejo Flat White

i really wanna paint nmm but i mean you need to have an understanding how light works and metal works so basically you need basic artistic understanding if you want to apply that independently (which i dont have). How do i get that understanding?
