I've never taken an art class in my life (except for grade school), but I've painted ceramics since I was 13. I just had my second back surgery in the last 3 years, so I'm unable to work. In order to keep my sanity, I decided to try my hand at painting canvases and I have surprised myself! I am obsessed with following your artwork, along with Michelle the painter and The Art Sherpa, aka Cinnamon Cooney. I cannot wait to try my hand with this painting, it is absolutely stunning and you make it look so easy (although I'm sure I'll have my troubles! 😆). I've just started watching your channel over Thanksgiving and have attempted to recreate some of your work. The paintings are stunning! Hello from Cali. I am new to painting and i love your style and guidance, you make it easy to understand. At what point do you decide to use gesso? Is it for black & white paintings ? I don’t think the other two i did told me to have that, but the Silver Bells says to apply it….so off i go to hobby lobby

It all depends on the quality of canvas you’re using. Lower, less expensive canvases need 1-2 coats of gesso. The canvas I’m using now is better and I no longer apply gesso anymore 😊 Hope this helps! Xo
