This boredom during lockdown has inspired me to finally get a 40k kit. I decided with space wolves. Looking at you paint this model has really got me exited for it, i went and bought all the paints you've listed and hope to replicate how well you've made this model turn out. Back when i was 14 (over a decade ago) and used to collect the LOTR warhammer, there wasn't youtube tutorials back then. So content like yours is really gonna help me keep the passion for it as ill be able to get my painting skills up to a good standard quickly i hope! If you read this, one thing i will ask, what paints did you use to prime the model? You said you did a coat of black then grey i believe. Is that just a case of using a spray paint primer of black then a grey? Thanks dude.
@ThePaintingCoach
@ThePaintingCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah i primed it with black spray and then grey spray from directly above - this leaves black in the shadows and a natural highlight on top

Why don’t more people just use a spray paint for their base coat (assuming the proper color in spray is available)? I know air brushing is an option that is commonly enough done but it’s rare to hear about a can of spray paint used as a base.
@ThePaintingCoach
@ThePaintingCoach 4 жыл бұрын
I agree Brian - i'll be painting a load of ultramarines and using Macragge Blue spray as the base - i think it's down to having that matching colour - Army Painter do this with their sprays I believe

Excellent video TPC... I’m actually finishing my aeronautica imperialis airplanes, so I have a question... do you apply just one or several base coats when you are painting a miniature? Or it depends accordingly to what you are painting... I mean, should an ASOIAF stark model have just one base coat for every color of its army, skin and hair, and then the use the wash, drybrush and highlights?? Or can I give several base coats for reaching a more solid and uniform base coat before proceeding with the mentioned techniques? Thanks a lot for your help!
@ThePaintingCoach
@ThePaintingCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! At 28/32mm, i would always go with a solid base coat - which is why I tend to have to use 2 and sometimes 3 layers for base coats - hope that helps!

I decided to buy my first ever warhammer minis, and ended up choosing space wolves pack. From what i see, in your video you used a lot of paint selection. Because this is my first time doing painting and it will cost a lot of money to buy all of the paints (from my budget, probably i'll buy only 4 or 5 different paint color) can you recommend which paint is essential for beginner like me?
@ThePaintingCoach
@ThePaintingCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! If you want a basic selection to get started with Space Wolves, I recommend the following: Primer - Grey Seer Base - Russ Grey Gold - Retributor Armour Silver - Iron Hands Steel Fur - skeleton horde contrast Wash - Agrax Earthshade & Nuln Oil Shoulder Pads - Mephiston Red & Averland Sunset Base for fur - Wraithbone pot You can maybe skip the shoulder pad colours if you like - does that help? For a method, you can follow the video without doing the highlighting stages, and use agrax earthshade to line all the panels

@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you for answering my question!! Can i replace the paints you recommended with vallejo paints? (like vallejo grey surface primer , etc) Since i can't find 60-80% paint that you recommended (i've only got russ grey and agrax earthshade) nb: in my country it's so hard to find any warhammer 40k product, and we didn't have any gw local store. really nice, do you dilute the contrast paint (space wolves grey) or just use it as it is from the pot? =) i really like the way you use it as a shade instead of using it as a layer.

Thanks for the comment Brian! I don't dilute it, but i do make sure that I don't have too much on my brush - and when I am lining it in, I twist my brush into a point to give me better control and make sure I'm not too sloppy!
