I think this is the first time I've ever seen the vents on a Terminator's back painted glowing red hot and the effect looks amazing. Not sure if I would want it for my whole army but this is quite interesting indeed.

Jesus, you have come a long way. Been here since the beginning of your channel and I am just flattened about your progress as a painter. Although I don‘t like the airbrush I have to say both models look absolutly beautiful. Not to mention the fact that I have a squad of Terminators at waiting to be painted…😉

Thank you. It is hard to see your own progress sometimes. So it is great to hear that people like you who have been looking at it from the start can see the improvement :) Out of curiosity, why do you dislike the airbrush?

@@ph3lansminiatures I might get heat for that, but it feels a bit like "taking the easy route". I struggle a lot with blending and light placement on my models and seeing those quick airbrush results is disheartening sometimes.😅 On top of that an airbrush setup takes up a lot of space and additional money that could be invested into more brushes, colours or even new models. In my case, it wouldn't fit my painting space. To sum it up, sometimes I just don't like the "clean" look of some airbrush paintjobs. Not yours of course, because you manage to get an end result that looks really "complete".

@@robertrichter7389 You won't get any heat from me at least, those are perfectly fine reasons :) An airbrush requires quite a bit of investment in time, money, and space and not every one will dig the look it creates. The only thing I don't agree with is the "easy route" one, although I fully get where you are coming from. The airbrush is a pretty difficult, but really fun, tool to learn but once you know what you are doing it can do some things faster and easier than the brush, but using it creates its own problems. You need to deal with overspray, it destroys the recess shading, it desaturates the colors etc. So you basically trade one set of problems for another :D For me the airbrush and the brush are complementary tools, you use them for their strengths and compensate for their weaknesses. Using them both makes me a better and more versatile painter overall (or so I hope). But not using it is perfectly fine as well, you can put more time and effort into your brushwork :)

Space wolves colours are so inconsistent. I must say, I prefer your darker version to the baby blue look.

Thanks 😊 I know NMM is a bit divisive, but I enjoy painting it way more than true mettalics and I like how it looks more as well 😅 That being said, the next video, coming this Friday, will be only with true metallics.

Great job on these. Love how the colors turned out. I was wondering, instead of using oils can you achieve a similar effect washing the model with say a contrast paint or nuln oil and similarly remove the excess with the makeup brushes?

You could use contrast or acrylic washes and you can remove them as well to a certain extent. The problem is that you will have to do it super fast before it dries. If it dries on you it will leave ugly smudges behind where you disturb the layer that started drying. I think Richard Grey has some videos where he mixes a lot of contrast medium with the contrast paint, slathers the whole model and then removes them from the large surfaces. So it is definitely doable :)

@@ph3lansminiatures Kimera Blue Black isn’t available individually anywhere - what would be the equivalent in a speed/contrast paint from citadel or army painter? I love the almost turquoise-esque hue it has! It would go perfect over my zenithal and esp dry brushing if I could airbrush a contrast paint!

Late question, but how do you find water-mixable oils for washing? I wanted to get into them but I've heard they don't flow into the recesses as well as normal oils do. Do you recommend them for washes vs normal oils?

Initially I used normal oils and then lately the water-mixable ones and I don't really see a difference. To be honest I don't use either of them all that much in my projects so I am not an expert by any means, but for what I need them to do, they are fine. And they are much easier to handle.

Are they really oil paints if you can mix them with water? Did you paint over the gloss varnish at all?

Yep, they most certainly are oil paints and behave like they are supposed to as well as you can see in the video :) I covered the gloss with matte varnish where I applied the transfers, except on the shoulder pad, where it makes the colors pop more. On the rest of the model, the oil wash knocked back the glossiness enough so that I conveniently didn't need to do anything.

Great results! As a Space Wolves painter/collector since way back when i started @ 2nd edition warhammer 40k, i love the result of both color schemes. I am however allergic to winter bases everyone do for Space Wolves. Unless its for a battle of the Fang/Fenris dioramas, the bases should be arid sand/desert or any thing other than snow and ice. Nitpicking, great video!

Are you telling me that it doesn't instantly turn to winter wherever the Space Wolves thread? 🤣 I do agree with you though. I was considering another type of base, but I haven't done winter bases before and most people actually want to have Space Wolves on a winter base. So winter base it was. But I recently painted another two Space Wolves and those are on a desert base of sorts 😜 ( Check out the Ghazghkull Thraka Diorama video on my channel)

@ well rune priests have had the abilities to summon local ”snow storms”, and though i am a lore nerd, that part always make me cringe. Iknow that people like that, it just don’t make any sense, once again in the lore and books, how often do the story place in snow or ice? And yes for me i need a base that contrasts with the armour. I have 2 space wolves armies. One GW babyblue and one in Uniform grey. Both have desert themed bases With that said, i really like the result on your models! Even with the snow! 😂

Protip: List all the colors used in the description, or face rejection in the form of the browser back() method, which inevitably fucks up your algo score. Had it not looked so good I wouldn't even have bothered commenting but you did a great job in painting them, and I understand wanting people to actually watch the video but fuck if I'm gonna have to sit through 3-4x 13min just to make sure I haven't missed a damn color I'll just go watch another vid
