how to paint vibrant fruit with three colors 🍋 gouache

These videos are great. I used to paint with watercolor until a teacher pointed out that I was using it like gouache, laying it down kinda thick and using the white on top. Now I’m a huge gouache fan and your videos are so helpful

Man, those velvetouch brushes are amazing and a total delight to use. They are also made to last. Their relatives, the heritage line, are cheaper but in exchange they lose their fine tip and you're left with a wider tip that takes a while to learn to use. Those oranges look delicious too.

If you want a glass pallet you can make one out of glass from a picture frame. That's what I use I glue brown paper to one side of the glass and its so much better than using my dishes.

lovely video and super helpful! could you possibly share a little more about how you decide which colors you will use (aka your swatches) before you actually do the painting? do you try and get it close to what you see in the reference photo? thanks!

thank you Esther! Yes, I think that's a great question! I can try to talk more about my process for that next time. The short answer is that I focus more on getting the values and contrasts I see in the ref photos versus the exact colors. So I'd rather get the contrast between the light/dark as accurate as possible rather than getting the exact shade of yellow, for example. If you focus on value (how light or dark a color is) you can then change the colors and stylize it to your own color palette etc. Sorry that's a bit long winded but hopefully it makes sense! ❤️

I find it’s resistant for gouache, and I use lots of layers and water with it and the pages stay in tact…but i’ve never used it for watercolor specifically ☺️

Hello, my gouache colors dry SO fast on the paper I can’t do any blendings so , any tips?

You can reactivate them with a damp brush when blending, but this also depends on how much paint is on the paper, if it is just a thin layer it won't reactivate as much and will dry very quickly!
