Yet again another great demo of what contrast and speed paints are capable of if used correctly. Well done.

Thanks, Robbie! I was going to dull them down with Null Oil but liked the bright vibrant colours so went with it.

Same here; would be awesome to get some spider beasts to expand the warband.

If for ever reason GW ever decides to make another Choas God they should really consider using spider/arachnid anesthetics.

Another excellent painting tutorial Lee and I'm so envious of your finished models, all of them really do look fantastic but I'm struggling with brushes at the moment. I'm going through lots of brushes which all seem to have the same issue which is hair splitting (literally). I only soak up enough paint to maximum distance between the tips and the ferrule's, so no paint enters the ferrule's. I use "The Masters brush cleaner" every time I change colour and only draw the brush back on kitchen towel, so that any paint, soap or water stays on the towel. I leave tips pointed and the brushes vertical (hairs facing upright) when I'm finished, yet I still find that the hairs kind of split into two halves whilst I'm painting. When I take paint, I draw the tips back with a slight twist to give a point, which happens ok until I've loaded the brush again for the 2nd or 3rd time and then the hairs split. I've had the same issue with Army Painter white brushes, Army painter Masterclass, Citadel, Eboot (if that's how its spelt) and even believe it or not Winsor and Newton series 7. Today I have size 0, 1 and 2 Raphael 8404 Kolinsky to try out, but surely this has to be something that I'm doing, even though as mentioned, I'm taking as much care as I'm possibly aware of. All these brushes can't be faulty, some of them are expensive and well known brands. I'm mainly using contrast paints thanks to your brilliant tutorials, but have you had similar issues yourself, even some cheap old brushes even stay pointed for longer and without proper cleaning care. Please note I am definitely not using the brushes for dry brushing

I am hardly an expert since this happens to me occasionally as well, but chances are it has something to do with the fact you store them upright? This may allow for the soap residue or paint water left over to soak into the back of the brush tip and harden, causing for the brush to split? Again just a thought at best, hope it may somehow help.

@@kylewaayenburg8024 so kind of you to give some great thoughtful advice. I've always stored my brushes vertically as recommended by excellent model painters like Miniac and Squidmar, AFTER firstly rinsing them thoroughly and drying the hairs with kitchen towel, but I'm with you it does seem to be the most logical answer so many thanks for your kind thoughts

Thanks, Terry! My Army Painter White brush went that way and some citadel ones too. Kolinsky should be great, though. My brush care is terrible, I only wash them in water; in between colours and at the end. It sounds gross, but it is something painters do (honestly 🤣), is I run the brush in my mouth to get a fine point when I've washed it or finished painting. Never when there is paint on it lol I find that getting that point at the end before you put them away is a good move. Also as they dry, the point should stay sharp just like when styling hair for example. I think you can actually use hair products on the bristles to get them back to a point but I've not tried it. Maybe some long time painters can offer some good tips!?

I’ve tried loads of different brushes and brands, and the ones I use now are the best I have ever had (over 20 years experience). They are Series 33 Kolinsky Sable from Rosemary & Co. They are around £5 each and the point is super sharp and stays that way. In fact the point is so good you can paint the whole mini with just one brush, I use a size 3 for everything from the basecoating to tiny details. I don’t use any special cleaning routines, just water during the painting session and then a little dish soap and water at the end of the session, then I store them upright. Hope that helps - and happy holidays all :)

@@chrismarsden1982 many thanks for your great input and much appreciated. I heard Miniac or Squidmar mention those brushes yesterday as well as the Raphael 8404 and the Raphael seemed to be the better which is why I ordered them, but I still believe it’s something that I’m doing. I’ll have a practice with these Raphaels and pop back with an update. Thanks again and much appreciated
