A tip for sketching: you can use a light watercolor pencil if you want to not have any lines showing when you're done. Some really pale ones completely disappear with a bit of water, they're so weak they don't the colours I'm painting at all. I've got the Arteza woodless watercolor pencils, that set comes with a few ones like that.

I just Love how easy and amazing you make it look. And you encourage beginners not to give up. I am just beginning and have not even put paint brush to paper with watching your videos. Just watching your videos and buying things a little at a time. I can do Oils but have always wanted to learn water colors. I was told it is harder then Oils or Acrylic. You have got another fan and student here.

I hope you will see this message. I am a “semi-beginner” with watercolor. I started with Winsor Newton Cotman pigments, however, I struggle to get them to reconstitute. I use a covered pallette which is supposed to be air tight. The paints dry out between use. I re wet them before use, but they remain hard and it is difficult to make the nice puddles necessary to mix and paint. Do you have suggestions that would help me? thank you in advance.
@DianeAntoneStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi Betsy, I saw your question to Emma but thought I might be able to help. What I do myself is use a spray bottle to thoroughly rewet all my palette before I start preparing my paper and so on, and after about 10 minutes they have softened enough to easily use. Do you let the paints soften up for a few minutes after you rewet them ? Even paints that are years and years old usually soften up just with water. Do you live in a very dry climate or have a very dry house? That might make them drier than average, which would mean they took longer to soften up. Also, another idea is to spray them when you finish painting, before you put the cover on the palette. Then they will stay damper until you use them again. Hope this helps.

Emma, I don’t know how to use a color wheel. What color compliments other colors. Would you consider teaching a quick color wheel and the little chart that came with my paints that you use, I don’t know how to use that. It just seems a look of colors you could make, but how? Why? How large are your cards? What are the dime sins please. I assume 5”x7”?
@geegeebee36284 жыл бұрын
@Rebekah Bridges-Tervy She has done a video on the color wheel before. It was a while ago now. She has also done several videos on mixing colors too. They are very informative, and easy to understand. She is a really good teacher. Look back through her older videos. Hope that helps.😊
@Dedaskitchen4 жыл бұрын
Rebekah Bridges-Tervydis if you are using a color wheel, the colors opposite each other are complimentary- orange/blue, yellow/purple, green/red. When mixed together, they cancel each other out, producing a neutral color-grey/brown. So, you have to be careful when using those colors next to each other or layering them, unless that is the effect that you want. This is the challenge of watercolor!

Emma your an excellent teacher. Thank you. On a side note, I hope you’ll find this humorous. But, every time you say ‘I’m going to grab some Hookers green”. My feminist mind immediately says under my breathe ‘Sex workers green...’ then I realize, whoops... your talking watercolor, not protest.
