You are very kind Sergey for sharing with us your talent and knowledge. I have been painting for so long but not continuously because of work and raising a child on my own, now that I am older I am struggling to become a good painter. Painting is my passion and I cannot afford a school. I am 70 years of age, and will be painting until my last breath. I appreciate artist like you who are kind and sharing their expertise with the masses. Thank you again and may God bless you and keep you.

Very fine demonstration and talking during painting - I liked very much your focus on spots of light and pure color and that it is a creative technique

I did like it from the beginning. I don't like any tips from different artists . You are doing the best for me. I did furniture design in art school. I need action with the knife :)Lubię akcje a nie dziobanie i obracanie nożem jak pędzlem :)Oni wszyscy sie nadają do pędzli tych , których oglądałam :) Thank You . Greetings from Poland .

Terrific lesson, Sergey. And it was greatly enhanced by showing your palette as well as the subject at all times so we could see how you developed the painting. Good to see how you incorporated the values. Spacibo! Jeff

the paint you used looked a perfect consistency for painting with palettte knives May i ask what brand of paint it was I'd love to get it, thankyou
@СашиныРазговорчики10 ай бұрын
It's Nevskaya Palitra (made in Russia). It may be still available in on-line art stores in Western countries. I recommend their brand "Master-Klass".

I’m just starting to try painting like this in acrylic. Do you generally press pretty lightly on your palette knife?
@СашиныРазговорчики10 ай бұрын
Yes. Ginger Cook (another KZbin artist) gave a very precise description of how gently one should press with a pallette knife: imagine someone got a severe sunburn and now you are spreading a healing ointment on their skin with this knife.

Sergey brilliant as always. Enhanced by seeing your palette and how you work with it. Also your reference photo. Question; what do you do with the palette when you finish for the day? Clean off all that expensive paint? Just tidy the mixing area? Then rescue drying paint to use next time. More showing the way you work with the paint would be a big bonus for, I suggest, most of us. Many thanks for the tutorials. Gerry

Cover it with plastic film, store in a dark place. It will be good for a week for sure. Thick blobs of paint will be still good for a month if you lift the "skin" on their surface. Some people store their pallettes in a freezer.

I really like your painting but what happened to the missing time at about 8 minutes where the painting hugely changes but nothing is shown as to how you did it--what techniques you used?

Clingy film and some tough love on it to fuzz the borders? Also obviously some comlexity to the colours was added.

Wonderful lesson again sergey. Many thanks ! Do you have a preference for this style of painting yourself ? You seem to get great pleasure using your knife. Could I possibly ask the brand of your oils ? I don't think I could afford to use artist quality pigments so generously at the moment. Is there a student grade that you could recommend Sergey ? Your own paints look so bright and fresh ! Please paint more knife lessons my friend and THANKYOU ! Peter

I am not Sergey, but happen to know the brand he uses: it's Nevskaya Palitra (made in Saint-Petersburg, Russia). Most likely he uses Master-Klass line of their oil paint, but it could be Ladoga as well. I am pretty sure you can still buy this brand online in Western countries. Regarding cheaper options: if you live in US, you may try Michael's home brand Artist Loft (level one). It is good enough for a beginner.

I'm trying to find a video that shows how to put paint on the knife, do you tap in the paint? or a slim amount almost on the edge of the knife?
