Thanks for this, I really found it helpful. You’ve explained a few very key, basic points (about knife shapes and their action) that I hadn’t quite figured out on my own. Granted I’ve only used knives three times so far, without any instruction. So I’m keen to get on to a new project with them. Love the music! I hadn’t realized just how much I miss hearing classical music and I really like your choice. Now I have to find out whose music that was. I might suggest that at times it was a bit loud, competing with your speech. But I loved the energy and emotion it portrayed. Hope I can find that composer. If you’re reading this, and care to make it easy for me, please let me know! Thanks for a great video. I’ve already shared it with a friend. Now I want to watch a your Part 2.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I’m really glad you found the video helpful, especially the breakdown of knife shapes and their actions. It’s fantastic that you’re already experimenting with palette knives-it’s such a rewarding tool once you get the hang of it! I’m excited to hear about your next project and hope you have fun diving into it. As for the music, I’m thrilled you enjoyed it! Classical music has a way of adding depth and emotion to any experience, doesn’t it? The piece featured, from recollection, was by Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture (I think that's the name). I love classical music and Tchaikovsky is one of my favorite. I’ll definitely keep your suggestion in mind about balancing the volume better in future videos-thank you for pointing that out. Moving into content creating has been a sharp learning curve. I really appreciate you sharing the video with your friend and your interest in Part 2-it means a lot! I hope you find it just as engaging and helpful. Let me know how your next project turns out or if there’s anything else you’d like to explore with palette knives. Thanks again for the wonderful feedback! 😊

I’ve been doing it all wrong, it’s not a knife fight ,stabbing and slashing the color to death😢, rather it’s a mindful,technical, figure 8 dance. I’m not at all sure I have the patients to go back and retrain the muscle movement but at least you have provided me with a clear path. You are doing for us what your perceptive teacher did for you ,we thank you for teaching it forward.

Beautiful humorous description, "knife fight".....love it!!! It's a battle between us and us, most of the time. I am glad the information resonated. Use it to discover your authentic signature and with daily painting, you will begin to know your own personal movements. Happy Painting, Mirjana 🌻

Glad you enjoyed the video ❤Acrylics lack texture and dry quickly, but you can add texture and slow drying time. However, for me personally, oils have a buttery feel that acrylics can't match, making them ideal for palette-knife work....

Thank you. I'm glad this has resonated with you. Using a palette knife to paint offers the benefits such as creating thick impasto textures, precise application of paint, and the ability to easily blend colors on the canvas. Just remember start with an easy subject matter you'll have a fun journey without being too overwhelmed. Happy painting.

You are most welcome! For years I was frustrated not knowing how to achieve crisp vibrant colour.....and then the palette-knife appeared. AHA moment! The palette knife keeps the pigment tight, so when light catches the tone, it has a higher reflective power. Our eyes perceive this as a crisp vibrancy....Happy Painting, M

You are so like me 😅 yh let's paint - get the knife and just go for it. I've just rest drives myself and straight away I'm quote heavy handed. I do DIY and it seems it comes through in my painting. I stumbled accross you as I've only just decided to give painting ago and found finding your painting style refreshing instead of - oh no you can only paint this way or that - basically everything on podcast light handed - no use for me when I'm used to power tools 😂😂
@realartiststudios
@realartiststudios 25 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! I love your energy-it’s all about just diving in, right? Painting with a knife is such a raw and liberating experience, and being "heavy-handed" is part of what makes your work uniquely yours. The marks you make with that force and confidence are what will set your style apart. Learning from others can be inspiring, but it’s so important to stay true to who you are. Your DIY background sounds like it’s already influencing your painting in the best way-there’s no "right" or "wrong" here, only your voice. Keep embracing that boldness, because the world needs more unapologetic creators. 🎨💪

It was kismet, love that! The video was meant to come your way.... Oil paint feels like room temperature butter, and since I love cooking with butter, I figured... Well, at least painting can't make me gain weight!..............Why did the butter go to art school? Because it wanted to get a little "butter" at palette-knife painting!....Happy Painting, and may your artistic journey always be as smooth as spreading butter on warm toast. ❤

I like the way you explain what I need to find about myself to know what I need to do. I am definitely a fast full movements personality. I enjoy using brunches and drawing with charcoal. Now I want texture in my painting and love using a knife not just to mix paint but to paint. I noticed that you use boards instead of canvas or should I say as well. What type of board is good to use. Thank you so much

Hi Kate, Thank you for connecting with my work and channel. Grateful that the information was able to enhance your art journey. In this example, I am painting on Kraft Paper. A direction I took from Toulouse-Lautrec. I have used boards in the past and one that I like is by Jack Richeson & Co. I fluctuate between canvas/linen and boards. I suppose pending on what I'd like to achieve is what materials I choose to use. Hope this helps. Best wishes for a creative day 🌻🖌

I must comment on how well you explain. You are methodical,. Your ideas and thoughts build on one another in a systematic way. Clarity ! _____________ Some things can't be easily explained. For example, how different knives behave with paint. The shape, size and flexibility of the various knives all have a bearing on how the paint moves. The particular qualities of each knife show themselves through continued usage. In time, you will automatically reach for the knife that does what you need to do.. The knife becomes an extension of your body. Be patient.

Thank you; I value your feedback. Over the course of 20 years, I've gathered numerous valuable art tips, and I prioritize sharing that knowledge in my videos, as best as I can (not the most proficient videographer/editor.....doing the best I can in that department). Condensing how teaching art information can be challenging, I believe those who resonate with my content and watch my videos can establish a solid foundation for painting and mastering the palette knife technique. Your description of how palette knives behave is brilliant and on point!!! I dedicated a year to creating less-than-perfect art in order to fully grasp the intricacies of working with palette knives. It was undoubtedly a challenge, but the experience proved to be immensely rewarding. Best wishes for a creative day. Happy Painting, M

@realartiststudios
@realartiststudios 9 ай бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'changing the shape of the palette-knife at the tip"? What I think you are referring to is my favorite knife that I use. The shape of that palette-knife is a little warped and distorted due to ware and tare. I've had that knife for well over 6 years and because of constant use, its shape has changed. Hope this helps. Best wishes for your day, M.

At the beginning you say you hope we can get one nugget from your presentation and I think that is some chunk of time to spend for just one thing. I realize what you are doing is not really that relevant to the way I am wanting to use the painting knife although you are reinforcing all the things I am becoming aware of wrt chroma variations, value variations, hard versus soft transitions, focal points and directing the viewer etc. All explained clearly and well enough there to stick with it. Then MY nugget. I have been thinking, maybe only subconsciously, that at some point I will make a breakthrough and the paint will just start flying on the canvas and it will be easy with a great outcome. But you point out that it is all WORK, that everything starts with knowing exactly what you are going to do BEFORE anything hits the canvas. For me that is a big help to keep in mind NOT to assume you will be able to come up with all the brilliant solutions during the painting when it was not clear beforehand. Great job, keep it up, thanks for the nugget!
