DeJesus Custom Footwear alright so ummm what about more broad designs? Like I’m attempting to start a streetwear brand (needing help with that) and I was thinking about a static kind of thing on the quarter of the Air Force one. But under the swoosh. Would you say tooth pick method for that? Been looking into hydro dip but the results have been looking iffy.

DatBoyBreezi yeah definitely dude

DeJesus Custom Footwear update; looking into some Gel Lyte V’s. So the toe box and quarter on them is mesh. Is mesh hard to paint? Also - I don’t know if you’re willing to help me afford a second pair (I’m going into college soon) but I could whip up a design, maybe we could collab on it and get some Fonicks x DCF going. I do have a contact that makes shirts. Would be cool though.

I learned so much from this video for painting outlines as well as shadows and highlights. I don't know if you mentioned it before, but I was in an Asian market the other day & got a container of bamboo toothpicks because I liked the container. To my amazement, bamboo toothpicks are sharpened only on one side so they streamine them down into a long thin point that provides for the finest painted line I've ever done!

This is a great trick. I found out a nice little trick during a mistake I made on a pair of customs. I was working with heat transfer butterflies and I cut the antenna's off coming out of the head. I knew about the tooth pick method from you but I needed something even more fine cz the butterflies were small. What I ended up doing is dipping a tiny part of the exacto blade and made the antennas with the exacto knife. It came out perfect. It literally looked like it was part of the transfer.

I used the thin detail brush by angelus and the downside of them is that brush absorbs the paint and later stiffen up after a couple uses. I didn't think of a toothbrush and it makes sense now. I'm glad to see this method worked for you, I gotta try it now.

Another way to get a good line is to make sure your hand isn’t hovering in the air when you try to make it. Use your little finger if you can as a stabilising point, sort of in the same way an oil painter uses a mahlstick so as not to lean their hand on the canvas, but you need to do it so you aren’t putting your fingers in the middle of your work. It can take a bit of finger twister to get the feel that’s right and working for you.

Coming from a pinstriping background here: Do you oil and shape your brushes before storing them? I have brushes over a decade old, including fine detail brushes, and they're as fresh as day 1. When done working with them, clean them thoroughly, dip the bristles in baby oil, and use your fingers to work the oil into the bristles gently, and shape the bristles (point , knife edge, etc, depending on the type of brush) and store them. they'll last forever if they're natural hair brushes (sable brushes) Just be sure to clean them before you use them, and oil and shape them before you put them away. Keep them in a sealed container to keep varmints and insects away from them, as well as keep them supple.
@DeJesusCustomFootwear5 жыл бұрын
Wow this is great advice, almost wish I could put it in this video! Greatly appreciate it, I definitely never took it far enough it sounds like to rub down with the baby oil and store em between sessions.
@BigEpinstriping5 жыл бұрын
Yup, Here a demo of how to clean and oil a brush. It's a pinstriping brush, but this applies to all brushes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f56zqKqMnpqkm7s He doesn't shape them though, mineral spirits are great for cleaning the brushes. you can use just about any oil, But I've found Baby Oil works best, and it's cheap.

Do toothpicks work on fabrics? I'm about to start a custom and I'm wondering how to make sure my lines are fairly crisp? I'm aware that leather is naturally more suited to crisp lines but I'd like to put some PJ masks characters on some mesh fabric. I watched a few clips on painting mesh fabric, however I've not seen any detailed stuff yet... Perhaps for good reason? Any tips would be helpful! Thanks 😊

Hi there, Quick question for all of you. When using the toothpick method on stitching do you have to mix the paint with anything? Or do you just apply it straight out the bottle? For example the jumpman stitching.
@DeJesusCustomFootwear4 жыл бұрын
If you want it to be a bit softer you can use the 2soft but if you want it to get done a little faster and keeping it soft isn’t the most important thing to you... then just go straight from bottle ... (I go straight from bottle most of the time)
