I just discovered your channel. It’s so informational! I just started painting furniture myself. I love the tips you share plus I really like that you don’t blast annoying music. Thanks!!

I LOVE that color 💚 Always thought the wax went on, wipe excess off (if using antiquing/black/white, leave some in details), then wait 1-2 hours and buff…I’ve buffed too early and have taken too much wax and paint off.

Such a pretty dark green. I'm getting ready to do a dark blue and hope my night stand turns out as nice. Thanks for the inspiration and clear instructions ☺️.

Hi Ray, really enjoyed Your Nightstand Video. Just a Woodworker Here & Trying Milk paint 4-the first time. I made a Spice Carousel for My Sister & trying to match Her offwhite finished Kitchen Cabinets. I had bought a Can of General Finishes Antique White ,but Scared to use. Wish I had bought Powder after watching Your Video. Several Questions but will start with Two. First this piece is made of poplar do I need a primer Coat? Second trying on Scrap if not happy with Color can I add powder milk paint to premixed Water based milk paint? Sorry one More Question, what does chipping mean? Thank You for Your reply.Kay

If I am painting the legs and the apron to our oak kitchen table and the legs and backs of the chairs (leaving the table top and chair seat the oak finish), what do you recommend I use for a finish coat after putting on the milk paint?
@jadebethj3 жыл бұрын
This is my first flipping project and I bought the milk paint bc I loved the color but I had no idea what it would be like. I had no idea it would be chipping or peeling. Hopefully it works out.

In your chalk paint video you mentioned waiting several days to cure the paint/wax. Does that same curing porcess apply to milk paint?
@ARayofSunlight Жыл бұрын
Yes, wax still takes 30 days to cure, no matter what paint you put it over. But, in my experience the wax soaks into the milk paint way more than the chalk paint, so you aren’t left with a tacky surface for as long with the mlk paint.

After u put the wax on is it greasy to the touch? Can u seal with polyurethane instead?

Why sand after the 2nd coat?? Especially if wanting a non chippy look and a satin coat of poly
@ARayofSunlight2 жыл бұрын
Milk paint is really rough if you don’t sand it. And I wanted a somewhat chippy look, but not a majorly chippy look.

When we say 1:1 ratio, are we talking weight or volume? Similar to using flour in baking, powder can either be tightly or lightly packed, giving varying results.
@ARayofSunlight2 жыл бұрын
It’s a lose term. If you want it thinner, don’t pack the powder into the cup. If you want the paint thicker, pack it tightly. It doesn’t have to be exact. I personally like it on the thinner side.
@ARayofSunlight2 жыл бұрын
But then again, I don’t measure precisely when I bake either. 😂

We are anticipating war between the milkpainters v the chalkpainters hoping that is will be as good as nude mudwrestling
@curleygurlie2 жыл бұрын
Lol what?!
@magicgordo48782 жыл бұрын
@@curleygurlie First a tip.. If ya need or want a smidgen of milkpaint, mix some inexpensive artists acrylic with some powdered milk. the fifty cent stuff at WalMart works just great. The leftover powdered milk can be reconstituted with water or toss some in some homebrew yogurt or keep the box as sort of a trophy to indicate that the diet is still in effect. We now move to "mineral paint". Chalk or Calcium Carbonate is a mineral. We segue to mud wrestling. The mud used was a slurry of Bentonite and water and the babes weren't really nude. We recall the nude stuff started when the mud was out and Jello was the new mud.

Neat. But man that sander is $600 hundo 😬
@ARayofSunlight2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I saved up for it. Worth it for someone who sands a lot. There is a very cheap alternative though!
@FishHeadsIV2 жыл бұрын
@@ARayofSunlight what do you recommend as an alternative
@ARayofSunlight2 жыл бұрын
A mouse sander and the surfprep foam pads. Hooked up to a shop vac. You can read about the exact setup here: arayofsunlight.com/surfprep-sander-alternative/
