Just a little advice from an old old painter,try using a velour roller sleeve on you next project you will see much less roller texture that looks almost as if it was sprayed they are available at Sherwin Williams and Ben Moore.

I've watched a number of different videos on how to paint kitchen cabinets, and after watching YOUR video.... I've subsequently deleted all the others from the kitchen reno playlist I made!! This video is quite literally the only one I need. As many others have mentioned, your ability to thoroughly explain and truly 'teach' EVERY STEP of the process is what makes your video so much better than any others I've found. Thank you so much for your attention to detail, and importantly, for your empathy. The best educators have exceptional empathy, and that's what stands out in your videos. You're able to put yourself in the position of someone less knowledgeable/experienced than you.... and explain things in the way we (viewers) need to hear it. Other KZbinrs make renovation videos.... yours are renovation TUTORIALS!! Thanks from all the way over here in Australia, ya bloody champion! 🏆

I just recently painted our cabinets with the bright white on the upper and the pebble brown on the lower. I absolutely Love the look and the finish. This Beyond Paint is great and it didn’t take a lot of paint to do it. We have a small kitchen so it only took me a couple of days to do the actual painting. My husband removed the bottom doors but I painted the uppers in place because the cabinets were already white. We replaced the pulls with black ones from Home Depot and it looks amazing!! Looks good . Sorry to be the spoiler alert but as a pro painter here the old oak cabinets need scruff up sanding and priming prior to painting, especially shiny varnish or shellac. Primer is designed to bond to the wood and paint is designed to bond to the primer. The "no prep" paint/primer in modern paints can peel if not prepped first. Primer in paint is not sufficient for a good bond. Hope they did not peel later on.😉
@kjsacramento10 ай бұрын
Thank you ... I wondered about that. I moved into a house where pro painters apparently didn't learn that basic, spray painted over an oil-based paint without proper preparation, and left me with a painting nightmare! It's peeling and bubbling everywhere, and it can't be easily fixed with touchups because it makes lines
@MrsMTMomma10 ай бұрын
So glad someone recommended just what you said. I also wondered why she doesn’t used the little pyramid shaped “lifters” so she could put the doors down and not hold them which, I think would be very tiring and, over time, could be a physical problem for her wrists.
@cher9310 ай бұрын
Wood doesn't need sanding and priming if chaulk paint is used. All the chaulk painted antique look of modern furniture is simply chaulk painted and scuffed up to look old and 2 coats of stained wax or clear wax. Try it sometimes you'll be amazed at how the chaulk paint sticks to wood, etc surfaces without peeling! People are even chaulk painting kitchen cabinets these days! Out with the old ways, in with the new technology with much less labor!

@cher93 except yrs later those chalk painted kitchen cabinets are in horrible shape! Have you seen them 10+ yrs later after several children? Eeeeek! What a beautiful transformation, Lauren. You've taken an 80s (looks like it to me) kitchen and time traveled it to the 21st century. I love the imperfections - the tiny cracks in the timber, the timber grain showing. They reflect life. Life is filled with imperfections, we're imperfect. You've shown here that imperfect is perfect. @JackieofAllTrades3 жыл бұрын
@@kathyfranklin7776 I thought about using a sealer or some kind of top coat but all the stuff I read made it seem to be a “one and done” project, which is what I was looking for. You can see my application of the paint in my DIY Shaker style cabinets video. I will give it a year and review but so far I’ve spilled coffee and grease and random jam on it. Everything wipes clean. In fact last month my teen son cut his finger and so we had blood on the cabinets too! Bad for him but good to test how they hold! Sounds morbid, but I was excited to see I’d missed a spot a couple days later. The blood had dried on the white paint but wiped right off with a disposable cleaning wipe. So no sealer used but so far it appears to be no problem for this paint.

Nothing wrong with the procedure as long as you don't mind seeing the open grain of the oak. To transform your golden oak cabinets to a modern day totally smooth painted finish. You MUST fill the grain. I would suggest a couple products that are easy to use and when finished you will not see any graining. That's a professional look.

@dmjh932 Жыл бұрын
@@richardfitzsimmons4312 I like a product named Aqua Coat. It comes in clear and white pigmented. When I painted my oak cabinets. I did not want to see any grain bleeding through. When finished I wanted a smooth, grain free look. This takes time but you will get great results. I had a furniture refinishing shop for years. Good results take steps and time. I would also only use a good paint. I used Sherwin Williams Emerald. I sprayed mine with an airless sprayer in my garage. However you can roll and brush. I would add Floetrol to the paint. Has it flaked off, scratched, needed touch ups ,etc. ? Really curious to see what people think after using it daily in the real world and before I make the time and money investment to do my kitchen (vintage 70s stained golden oak cabinets - still in good shape, but need a better finish). Tx!

Beyond Paint is crap. Use a real quality primer designed to cover stains.

@@haywoodyoudome Opinions/results vary.. can you share why and what happened in place of a simple claim? I will be using a quality coverage/bonding primer, BTW.

Great video! Whenever I watch someone restoring/repurposing something in YT I feel so inspired, you make things look so easy🙂. This was a wonderful transformation of cabinets I may have been tempted years ago to throw out and buy new.

Love watching the magic! YOU make it look so easy, and probably it is...? I did my oak kitchen cabinets with high end paint from BM. Took me for-ever to finish the project, with all kind of prep, sanding, sealing from potential bleeding with with shellac, two coats of primer, two coats of paint and two top coats. It turned out being gorgeous, but in one year it started wearing out on the corners, edges and around knobs. I did everything by book, not sure why it did not hold on as was supposed to. I am going to get this paint try on my bathroom cabs. I will definitely use the top sealer, to protect from the bathroom sink splashes.

You're telling me that I don't need to sand the wood first? Wow 😲 I love this ! Will it last tho?

I did learn that you should sand a little before coats, which I didn't do on a vintage bench. It went from black to linen. I used all in one Heirloom Paint. I'm really happy the way it came out. I will be watching more of your videos, thank you! Also, I loved the color in the bathroom.

Such a wonderful teacher and a quality job! Super impressed with time management and set up tips. 2 questions - Have you used wood grain filler on oak for smoother finish? It would be time consuming, but maybe good idea? Also have you ever sprayed a kitchen or done a combination of rolled frames with sprayed doors?

Why is it that you don't prime or sand the cabinets before you paint them? I just recently found your channel and have learned so much. Thank you 😊

Great job on the paint. Really like the colors. As long as the finish wipes/cleans well then it's perfect as it is. If she wants to do a wax or something that's optional but may require maintenance years down the road for upkeep. Excellent tutorial!👍

I painted the cabinets in my two bathrooms. It was so much fun. I had to do sanding on my surfaces but most just a light sanding. They look great. I would love to do my kitchen cabinets but there are sooooo many. Every time I mention it my husband goes glassy eyed and so I drop the subject! I’m 70 years old and have not trouble getting down on the floor or up on a ladder so I could do it. I can’t however decide on a color if I did decide to paint them. I will ponder it for a few months and it will come to me what color they should be and maybe I will take a crack at it! I really like the paint you are using so I will keep the name of it for future reference in case I decide to do my kitchen. Great idea writing the number of the door in the hole where the hinges go. I would have never thought of that!

I’m redoing mine. Did the interiors last year. They were a mess! Ready to do the outsides this fall/ winter. Planning on taking my time, one section at a time. May take 2 months, but I’m up for it!

I did mine by myself. Lots of cabinets. I sanded and did 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. 24 hrs in between coats of paint. Removed & replaced all the hardware. Didn't kill myself, took my time. The project took me 5 weeks, but it looks amazing! You can do it! Good luck!

GREAT job!! And I have an amazing help for you with the cabinet cleaning....Good Gone, but using it the proper way, which almost no one knows how to do :-/ •Generously spray on the Goo Gone onto a 2 ft area at a time. • With your bare or rubber gloved hand, rub the productall over the entire area for about 15 to 20 seconds. • Allow the cleaner to sit & work for 2 to 5 minutes . Warning: Sitting for more time than that, allows the Goo Gone to evaporate--not good, and wiping it off before than 2 minutes, is worthless! The product will not have even worked yet! But, once it's wiped off properly...you'll love the results! The grease and grime comes right up! • once the grease, grime and Goo Gone is all removed, clean off all residues with your favorite kitchen cleaner. All ready for paint ♡

OK just started this project. First tip: do NOT use foam rollers. you want the regular woven rollers. use a small 4" roller. Get 6 or 8 of them. The first coat is a little rough. don't worry, let it dry for 2 hours. Once you get the second coat on, it looks GREAT. The paint smoothes out. Use the "dab" motion with a brush for small lines you can't fill in with the roller. 3 coats might be needed. so far I am pretty impressed.
