thats a great process!!! I only found that when painting with a roller it is sooo important to have primed canvas or it will seep through and to also have no folds otherwise the paint will sort of cement them into place! - but so cool and thank you for your comment & kindness! :D

Have you ever tried using calico? The material is a bit cheaper, and lighter too. I just purchased a 2nd hand frame that is quite light, so I'm not looking to use canvas, it might be too heavy once painted.

Excellent! So if I wanted to, I could use matt house paint regardless of colour?
@BrandiNicolePhoto2 жыл бұрын
You absolutely could!!! It does tend to dry a little more firm in my experience so keep the coats light or rolling it up is a little difficult. I would recommend trying to paint it if it’s stretched and stapled down first. :)

Just went to Home Depot for supplies! Two questions, if I bought white primed canvas should I still molt with white in order to get the gray backdrop behind you? Also can you paint both sides of a canvas? Like do one side one color and the other side another?
@BrandiNicolePhoto3 жыл бұрын
You can paint both sides!! It shouldn’t bleed into the other side; but I would keep both sides relatively light colors/coats of paint so it’s not too heavy? Very curious how this turns out you gotta let me know! :D and also I definitely recommend mixing with white to get the slightly lighter tones mixed in with the grey
@brandiblake14733 жыл бұрын
What size canvas do you order? The link you shared shows yards, so would 2 yards be large enough for at least 3/4 shots?
@BrandiNicolePhoto3 жыл бұрын
It would be quite a small working area but that should work in a pinch!! I’m guess you’re fabric is 1 x 2 yards and so it would be 3ft x 6ft and super skinny, But if you lean a model next to it very close you should be able to make it work! They make rolled canvas that is a a little wider, I would try to go for that so you can have a larger working area :)
@pratikkadamphotography3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brandi, This video was helpful...But What size do we prefer for Full length portraits..?

also, what are you using for reflectors/side walls?
@BrandiNicolePhoto3 жыл бұрын
The drop behind me (that isn’t the blue one!) is just made with white and like a 20% grey! I had three trays, white paint, light grey, and medium grey - then mottled them together with a broom and a giant sponge! I hope this helps and that you have fun! :D

CIao! Hope you're well. Is the painting process repeatable? And if so, do you ever have to prime it again before adding a different color or after so many uses? Thanks ahead of time :-)
@BrandiNicolePhoto3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I have never had to repaint over mine for any reason but if you wanted to prime and paint your canvas again I am sure it would hold up well!! Are you thinking about repainting a drop of yours? :)

@@BrandiNicolePhoto Ciao and thanks for the reply :-) I'm getting into filming micro commercials, so I need multiple backdrop colors, depending on the product and customer requests. I've been buying paper backdrops, but that's becoming unwieldy to store. I'd rather just repaint something. Any suggestions? Again, thanks for your time. I know time is precious!

Do you find that your canvas is stiff or is it easy to roll and fold? The first time I made one I used drop cloth from home depot. Primed it twice and then went in with matte wall paint and its sooooooo freaking stiff
@BrandiNicolePhoto3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow!!! Mine is definitely easy to roll! I tend to paint with a water and paint mixture to keep it light and sponge -painty! Maybe you’re using too many heavy layers of paint? I’m unsure!! But also drop canvas has a much thicker texture !
