How to paint your wheels cheap , with professional results!

Sometimes you don't have the time or money to send wheels out for powder coating. So what do you do? Dig into the old paint cabinet and get ready to do some work! On this episode of the Dirthead Shed Dave Chappelle goes through the process of prepping and painting an old set of Method beadlock wheels from start to finish.

Those Method wheels may be old, but they've got a beautiful and neo-classic design that will absolutely last the test of time. I love those semi coffin-shaped openings! With enough time and energy those could have been polished beautifully, but, even with time, energy and budget constraints a glossy black ... or many other colors ... could do the trick. I love what you did with them 👍😇

Super rad Dave, wheels are one of those little victories that can be super satisfying! I was thinking when you were holding them up to Moms spaghetti that I would paint pen in the cast in Method letters w black. Cant wait to see the tires! Rock on.

The takeaway was to go for it. It worked well in the end. The issue of the old can primer would have most likely blown apart your time constraints. It will work and add attention to your already recognizable rig as it lives on. Thanks again. Nice having you here. I miss the Dirt Every Day show. I have one of those old filing cabinets. Top drawer toyota engine parts and gaskets. 2nd drawer toyota driveline and bushing parts. 3rd drawer 3 wheeler parts, including a complete 250r bottom end. Bottom drawer 2 toyota diffs. And transfer case parts. Way better than the papers they were designed for!

A little, basecoat has flakes and pearls in it that can flow differently. And typically you want a dedicated clear gun so you don’t get any of those in the final coat

I was always told that good quality clear will make cheaper paint look better, Than great paint and cheap clear. That's my 2 cents!

Spraymax 2k clear in a spray can works well with Duplicolor basecoat and is easy.

That color almost looks like it changes colors some. In some of the light it looks kind of like butterscotch. But others it's more of a burnt orange with a greenish hue. It looks good. You did a good job. It also makes me want Carmel candy for some reason. Lol

You need to get you like a media blaster, and get you some corn COB Media It will strip steel or aluminum without actually pitting it or destroying

I had a nice sand blast cabinet. It took up a bunch of space and got used very little.
