Great video, thank you! Seen lots of vids on palm rolling but had no idea of the benefits of doing this whilst my dreads are wet/drying until I stumbled on yours. Really helpful and simple video. Nice one : )

Hey. I have been on the YT channel for years. I love it all and I have learnt much from the insight you have given over the years. My locks are almost 2 years old And its been so expensive for me to maintain with crocheting so I wanted to do it myself. and thats also why I knew about yall. any whoo... I totally think that even though I didnt wanna do product I think I will have too, Unfortunately I cant afford pounds as I am in SA but I will find something similar here in cape town. Bless yall. I think I am gonna try and get a spray and maintain after my showers because I am growing afro under these locks... LOL I do have a crochet hook but am yet to get fake hair and practice and all that.... I really dont like getting hurt so my gf Is not gonna get to just do it ya' know...

My loctician told me to palm roll upwards but I haven't only seen the downward motion done in every video I've seen. Does the upward palm rolling make sense to you? Thank you

So my dreads are about 6 months old and they're doing alright. I dont have an issue with looseness, but I still have an issue with fly always. I've got a latch hook and I try to do a little pull them back in the dread and palm roll to maintain, but at this point I'm wondering if the fly aways, even on the mature dread, are just something I'm gonna have to live with, or will they eventually go away(?) at a year, 2 years, whatever. And just to be clear I'm asking about on the extended length of the dead, not near the scalp. I know fresh growth will always have some frizz.

We have products for styling. We have one product called Fly Away. Its a water soluble residue free product that you palm roll over your locks. This is applied to dry hair The second product is our locking spray. This is applied to wet or damp hair. This product accellerates the locking process. But also works very well as a styling product to tame loose hairs. Either one of these would show you a definitive difference when styling. Styling is a highly overlooked aspect of dreadlocks as one school of thought is to let them do their own thing. But for those of us who like to maintain a clean finish, styling is important.

My dreads are 4mo old and I have naturally thin, fine hair so I had some human hair extensions crochet in to add length and volume..I had a huge issue with fly aways and although all hair types are different I found that lightly spraying oil sheen (on fully DRY hair) then palm rolling makes a HUGE difference. Oil sheen is like a dry oil so the locks aren't oily and it gives it an AMAZING scent and shine.. I could only find oil sheen in an Aerosol can, I'd love to find it in a pump.. But it was a game changer for me.. I get so many compliments. I also only wash once a week and don't condition...

@@henessy.-.45 Oil based products aren't recommended for use on dreadlocks.

I suggest you both seek second opinions ❤ Fly always are something people with mature 10 year old locs still deal with, sometime they are there, sometimes they arent. It depends on humidity, wash days, products etc.. Anyone that tells you to buy products before asking your routine, is a scum. IMO. Sorry to channel owner but that's the bit of truth that's up for nuance. In my journey I've found LadyDreads, 10 year loc holder , recently cut his locs, but nevertheless has 10+ years of expertise and didnt need gel, wax, or nasty residue building products. His locs after cutting were clean, no mold, no rot, no dandruff, no lint, no residue.
@Amused_Comfort_Inc3 жыл бұрын
@@henessy.-.45 hey hun, Channel owner is very wrong. Oil based products are not harmful to locs by any means, unless Over used. Your locs are still HAIR. They do need moisture, or they will split, because brittle, and wont feel like soft ropes they will feel like sand paper. considering we will likely sleep on them sometimes, hug a loved one, or hold babies, not very fun! it is absolutely okay to use use oil products. I would suggest Lion Locks, or Dolly Locks. Some form of spray, specifically designed for loc moisturizing and locking. They usually use jojoba and argan oil, with sea salt and it is all non residue, no parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, etc etc

@DreadsUKdotcom4 жыл бұрын
its anyones guess. Could be a product he's used causing his hair to be brittle. Doubtful just palm rolling alone would do that.
@Moonheirloom4 жыл бұрын
Good question because I was afraid I’m pulling my dreads down too much while rolling. So I came on here to see if I’m rolling them wrong. None have came out though and I don’t notice it breaking or anything. Just a worry because I felt like my dread was longer after rolling lol
@DreadsUKdotcom4 жыл бұрын
@@Moonheirloom The length of the dreadlocks always appear slightly longer after palm rolling as the result is much straighter than when they are dry. 1, they are elasticised when wet 2. curls and kinks shorten the length
