@UCpH4AbLz-pH3c0aEHSgXCTA The personality test questions/statement is more likely to be: "I often get angry" Then, I would answer as FALSE, or STRONGLY DISAGREE, because I don't 'often' get angry. However, if they do pose a statement or question that asks if you have ever been angry, then yes, you would AGREE, because the vast majority of people have become angry at some stage in their life.

I honestly think the "I work best if I am working in a team" question is tricky only in terms of answering it based on a separate question. Alot of these personality questions are repeated but at a different angle to where answering differently causes answers to conflict. If you chose in a earlier variation to this question by saying "I work well with others" but in this other question you say "I prefer working alone" on a separate question, then you just broke consistency. Employers are looking for consistency as well. For this question in particular @19:00 I honestly think no matter the job, you should STILL select "I prefer working in a team" because Teamwork is how everything gets done. Even IF you are alone often, saying this means you are showing that you are willing to work as a team if needed. The question isn't asking, "What is the best way you work?" That's a different perspective entirely. That's just my thoughts and perspective with how I would see it.

HI, Thanks for a great video. I like the way you have presented this content in a crystal clear manner and also your instruction to keep the job in mind when answering really helps. If i were to take your que for this question as an eg " I get nervous talking to people i dont know" and respond as False then sooner or later this would get noticed while on the job. So my advice to those answering as False (when in reality its true for them) is to take note of this question and ensure something is done to overcome the nervousness when talking to new people (as an eg) so that you are not in a spot once the job is yours. This is how i would answer the mock personality test. 1) Strong agree. 2) Strongly agree. 3) Strongly agree (bit unclear on the intent of this question). 4) Strongly agree 5) Strongly dis agree. 6) Strongly agree. 7) Strongly agree. 8) Strongly agree. 9) Strongly agree. 10) Strongly dis agree. 11) Strongly dis agree. 12) Strongly agree. 13) Strongly agree. 14) Strongly agree. 15) strongly dis agree.

Thank you for your real honesty! It's so refreshing! I believed them when they said to answer honestly. I now realize these tests discriminate against people on the autism/asperger spectrum, as well as against introverts. I prefer to work independently and I answered that way, because - "honesty", but I am perfectly capable of working in a team and do well at it; it just isn't my preference. Same with distractions while working, and a whole host of other things. The advice to "answer honestly" will never land you a job if you're an introvert or on the spectrum.

What you asked for from me: Q1: strongly agree Q2: strongly agree Q3: disagree ( I do feel like I have to look after myself to a degree to be able to look after another however, I do tend to put others before myself. And this may not be a good way to answer for a employment test question but if I am being honest and answering for you....) Q4: agree Q5: agree (because I am a hard worker either way and confident in working in either setting) Q6: strongly agree Q7: disagree Q8: agree (in general, Yes, they should - however, there are certain people who will deserve different treatment that we can't deny whether it be positive or negative treatment that may be necessary) Q9: agree ( it is an unfair world. there are some that will never have the same opportunities as other simply for the parents they did not choose or the place they did not choose to live in which certain opportunities are just not available - yet, I do believe a good many of us have the necessary tools and opportunities to advance ourselves if it is truly a goal for one to do so. Q10: strongly disagree (obviously) Q11: disagree ( I can follow the crowd if I feel the crowd is headed in the right direction OR EVEN when I feel is what needed or expected of me; but, I tend to march to the beat of the drum that will lead my son or myself to success and happiness even if that means marching in the opposite direction of others alone.) Q12: agree ( I don't have to be involved in something big & exciting. However, do I think it is important? To a certain extent I do actually think it is IMPORTANT for one to feel they are involved in something big & exciting as it can give one a sense of meaning for their life and improve their overall performance when they feel they are involved in something big. But I don't have to be) obviously I bounced with this one from agree to neutral. Q13. disagree Q14: strongly agree Q15: disagree and the questions asked after the first mention of answering these in the comments below where the first question asked was "we live in an unfair world" Q1: agree Q2: neutral Q3: strongly disagree Q4: agree Q5: disagree Q6: strongly disagree Q7: disagree ( I am to tired for a busy homelife after a busy workday and might just want to relax and probably will :) ) Q2: reluctant to get involved with the welfare of others. This one was hard for me to answer, I am aware that my answer could imply that I do not care for others or am unwilling to lend a hand when needed which is definitely not true so I am unsure on how to answer this question only because I have such a strong belief in something like this. I FIRMLY believe that IF YOU SEE WHAT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE WELFARE OF ANOTHER PERSON - YOU SHOULD TRY TO HELP! OFFER HELP! MAKE SURE THEY KNOW YOU ONLY WANT TO HELP NOT CAUSE HARM- make sure they feel comfortable in knowing you aren't there to judge but simply help. This is where my hesitation comes in with answering this question and I stand pretty strongly on it: WE ARE HERE TO HELP OTHERS, NOT HURT THEM. So if I don't feel that I can help them or have the resources to extend to help them then I will not get involved in MOST cases of course there are certain situations where anyone in their right mind would get involved and welfare could mean so many different things so it depends on the degree in which the question refers to. You never know why someone's welfare is not up to the standards of our social norms and it may be just for the same exact reason which you yourself are unable to help them. This is why this question was a little harder for me to answer FOR YOU- now answering for a job I may answer a little differently as I know that this is such a small window into who I am as a person would be misunderstood if I didn't answer as person willing to help someone. Thank you for your videos!
@kynchan33323 жыл бұрын
When you are told there are no wrong answers that is completely wrong. There are right answers. The wrong answers end your progress in the interview. Personality tests should never have been introduced into job interviews, but someone needed something to sell to lazy HR departments. If we followed how long employees remained and tried to justify that with the personality test there would be an interesting case.

I see that your approach is to draw a connection between the job description and the questionnaire, and answer accordingly, but it rarely seems so cut and dried in my experience. There is a negative interpretation to any of the possible answers to these questions. Strongly Agree or Strongly Disagree? Then you are too inflexible. Somewhat agree or disagree? Then you are not true to your beliefs. Neutral? Then you are non-commital. Prefer to work alone? Then you're not a team player. Work well with others? Then you're not self-motivated; and if you agree to both, then you're contradicting yourself. If I said "I put people I work with at ease," and then said "I prefer obedient people over carefree people," I would expect a hiring manager to think that I do not like the people I work with, that I am not good at getting people to obey, or that one of those statements was false. My usual goal is to be honest so that I do not get caught in a lie, but these tests clearly discourage honesty from the applicants. I suppose the choice is to NOT work for an employer that psychologically profiles me (very unlikely), or figure out what they want and do my best to act like I am those things (but not too much because then I'll either seem self-important, or overly eager to please). I think a more useful video would be about how to decipher job descriptions to know what they are looking for. Rarely do I find myself in a situation where I can tell from reading a job description or the company's values statement what answer in the questionnaire will get me to the next phase.

If you rely on job descriptions to figure out your employers' preferred culture, there's usually two possible scenarios: 1. they are able to detail cultural requirements 2. they don't mention anything about it In 1, it's obvious they are specifically asking for these types of personalities; But in 2, you can usually decipher it in the way employers discuss the tasks to be done x how these tasks are usually defined as "done".
@seth80542 жыл бұрын
We pass these tests by refusing to be a part of discriminatory practices that isolate and condemn applicants based on their "personality." Not only are these practices immoral, they are unethical in any form. Good luck to you all. If you are ever faced with this decision, think about working for a company that isolates the exact personality traits and trash bins the rest of the applicants. Not sure if you want to work for garbage companies like that, but applicants that are aware of these illegal practices will never be a part of those process's. Thanks for the video.

I think everything will have a good outcome; 4. I am focused on details. I had to be honest in this case... I know that they are looking for a leader, and 1 and 2 both describe me very well, I am ok with details but won't say I am always very fussed about details. And I certainly don't think everything will have a good outcome, I tend to consider the worst scenario and form strategy based on the worst possible outcome. So I actually was really honest to them: no.2 describes be best and no.4 describes me least.

- 13:06 Neutral, some people have advantages from parents or natural skills, while others may have a lot of disadvantages. So I wouldn't say it is fair for everybody, but I wouldn't say it is unfair for everybody. - Also "I refuse to concede an arguement" I answered in my test as disagree, so there is still room for "IF I knew I was right, I would try to promote my idea, instead of just giving up". - "I'm always realistic, even it means I am negative"; I believe employer appreciates a worker, who doesn't sugar coat things, and dares to tell things as they are, it shows your loyalty, kind of throwing yourself under a bus for work.

Your videos are always very helpful. Thank you for posting them online. I have a question. Recently I too personality test in banking sector. The questions were 'What best describe you' you have to choose one answer from two provided on the basis Strongly Agree, Agree, Slightly Agree. All was fine until question said: 'I will drop task if too difficult' v 'I get stressed easily'....You have to chose only one answer and chose Strongly Agree, Agree, Slightly Agree. No option to say Neutral or even omit the question. Out of 23 questions there were 3 questions like that. I would be interested to hear from you what to do in this situation.
@cavalieroutdoors60362 жыл бұрын
Minimize the harm the question can cause. Irrespective of what sector we're talking about, you're hired to perform tasks - not to drop them. Dropping a task is *not* an option. All jobs have levels of stress, so it's OK to admit that it happens "I get stressed easily." Then choose the answer that takes the most bite out of it - slightly agree.

The unfair world question is tough. Answer "strongly agree" on that one and they might think you're a psychopath that might come in and shoot up the place due to a perceived injustice on the job.

@@jackieburns5257 Interesting. I think I would pick the same, since it depends on which side or perspective you're looking from.

Q11 the contradictory thing about these tests is that, often you hire someone into a junior role in the hopes that they will climb the career ladder into managerial roles one day. Now in the shoes of the employer again, do you want a future manager, or a forever junior subservient employee?
@peterg76yt3 жыл бұрын
For a lot of these questions, the honest answer with respect to the workplace would be a totally different answer from what would be true in a social setting.

What do “daydreaming” questions measure on a personality test? I got 3 of them....”I seldom like to daydream” “I like to daydream” “I find myself daydreaming often”

Probably how disciplined and focused you are. Hopefully you answered 'no' on those.

In the question: “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.” I think it’s ‘Strongly Agree’ and not ‘Neutral’ because when we talk about ‘’cover’’, we are talking about the outside, what you see first. and what you see first is: Way of dressing, Color, Ethnicity, Gender and if you start ‘’judging by the cover’’ you are already taking assumptions of someone without even talking to that person. You are judging.

"be 100% honest on your answers" lies on literally the next question
@jonisins35003 жыл бұрын
One test was obvious what they were looking for it was basically 10 questions about will you tell on your coworkers for any small mistake
Personality tests can be perplexing due to ambiguous wording. "I never find myself not completing my tasks on time." Wait, what? Then ten questions later "I always complete my deadlines adequately." The second is easy while the first is perplexing but they mean the same thing. This is trickery and too often creates contradictory results. THEN if it isn't bad enough you get "I'm never at my best in the morning." Do I disagree with this meaning I am at my best in the morning, or do I actually agree because I'm not. Confounding verbiage is maddening.

I don't feel as if I owe any kind of honesty on a personality test; these questions don't have a truth value in my mind. Emotion isn't needed to be polite and courteous. Cheer and optimism isn't needed to be kind. Idealism isn't necessary to give people the benefit of the doubt. And of course, these questions are also fairly discriminatory against people with various types of disabilities.

Thanks for your honest feedback about the tests :)

+Evelyn Lewis Yes, they really are! Especially those with learning difficulties. You shouldn't base a candidate on these tests, you should let a potential employee demonstrate to you why they would be a great fit for a particular role.
@ineedstuff82862 жыл бұрын
i totally agree... they don't deserve the truth either necessarily. We all know how we should act in public etc. Literally the entire world is taught to act in order to be socially cohesive, to a degree or another. It's like for a customer service job... so what if I like to watch debates, I know NOT to sit and argue on the phone with customers... since I believe that is what they were looking at. These things are SOOO unfair.

Hi Richard! Loved your videos and it did help me in preparation for my test. Just to let u know that in my PAPI test they served 7 possible answers/responses; Strongly Disagree/Disagree/Slightly Disagree etc . Perhaps your future video on personality test could factor in this variant. The toughest question i got just fyi if you’re curious is; I would never tell a lie! That stumped me! Had to ask SiRi for help LOL 😂

You confirmed most of my own thoughts on this; but I would like to share a unique test that I just took. At the end, I do have 2 questions. I just applied on a temp staffing app for bartenders. First... If you are the staffing company, you are looking for someone who is adventurous enough to show up at an unfamiliar location, get tossed into an unknown setting, and work with people they don't know. If you are the restaurant or bar, you are looking for someone who will perform the monotonous task of making drinks all night (they aren't looking for somebody to come in and tell them how they like to make a drink that makes it different or special or better). Do you answer for the staffing company or the bar? Second... The answer scale didn't range from Agree to Disagree, it was 5 steps from "Slightly True" to "Very True" without a place of neutrality. The questions were all the same or similar to the examples you gave, there was no option to not agree with the statement. If there is no "Neutral," do you answer "Slightly True" even if you don't agree with the statement?
