I recently found out about the patent bar exam, I'm soon to be graduating mechanical engineering student and this seems to be a perfect fit for me as I have a passion for law and legal procedure as well as a lot of very good technical knowledge in my field, thank you for making this guide, I'll definitely be using it in the coming months as I prepare for the patent bar exam which I plan to take after I take my FE exam

Hi Zach! Thank you very much for your video. I was just wondering if you could make a video about your day-by-day work as a Patent Agent. What are the best parts and worse parts in your opinion? How is the work load? Was it easy to get a job as a Patent Agent? Thank you!

Thank you, this is very helpful. I took a cheaper option/course, studied as advised but didn't pass first time. Disappointed, and now I am trying to find my motivation again to restart studying and preparing to take the exam again this summer. Now I am considering purchasing the PLI course, which is much expensive. I feel like the questions in the actual exam were much complicated than the exam prep questions I followed in this cheaper study course I took. Does PLI give you more actual exam like prep questions? Most exam questions were long, complicated cases/story like questions. There was no time to look up info and even when I did have time, the look up was difficult unlike in the pdf files I have downloaded. Please advise.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the video helpful. Many people use mypatentbar.com to study, but you have to be careful. There are exams you can study on that website, but those exam questions are old (like 2003) and reflect U.S. patent law prior to the passing of the America Invents Act, which fundamentally changed patent law in the U.S.. I completely avoided it and stuck to the PLI course, which helped me immensely.

Hi, Zach, I have taken the bar exam a couple of times, but always failed. The last time I took, I feel very confident, but still lose. I found the system closes the test session automatically when the 3 hours expires. My question is whether I have to submit initially my answers when I completed? Will failing to click submit button at the end affect my score?

does passing the exam help you find a job as a patent agent? Or do most of the jobs require more than just a bachelors in a science and passing the patent bar (for examplem PhD in chemistry)?
@zachontiveros84502 жыл бұрын
Passing the exam will most definitely help you find a job; however, some law firms will hire you as a patent engineer/scientist and then encourage you to take the patent bar after working there for a couple years. The education requirements are largely dependent on which technical field within patent law you want to work in. I would guess most mechanical/software/electrical patent agents and attorneys don't have PhDs. Life sciences is a different story though. From my experience, the chemistry and bio fields largely require a PhD or higher education beyond a B.S.
