Richard, you are worth your weight in gold!!! I passed the SEARCH assessment centre OCT 2015 and have my senior officer interview on Tuesday. With your advice and support I am feeling excited, albeit nervous at passing this stage of the recruitment. You have shown me that even though it isn't a standard test, and is an interview instead, that you should research and prepare for it! That this (and your knowledge I have gained from watching your clips on youtube) is maximising my skills and knowledge to help me show my existing competencies the Police are looking for in recruits!! In my mind, attributes such as resilience and confidence are actually 'qualities'of a good officer. I believe that 'values' relate more to the code of ethics. Value is a synonym for a belief and you can't 'believe' in confidence, but you can believe in/value things like honesty and integrity and public service

wow, thanks for this video. some ideas of the values of being a police officer I would add is: adapting to different ways of working. considering a range of possible options before making a clear decision. working co-operatively with others to get things done. challenging unprofessional conduct or discriminatory behaviour.

Hi Richard, thanks very much for spending the time to create these videos, they are extremely useful! I have my assessment centre on Wednesday. I'm writing down answers to possible questions based around the competencies. I am, however, struggling with my "Motivations/Values" questions. I certainly have my own Motivations and values but am unsure how to word my response. I have reviewed the force campaigns / missions - should I be mentioning these?

+SuperEddzz Hi, I am glad you are finding my videos useful. In regards to the motivation/values question, anything that shows a strong desire for joining the force will greatly improve your chances. If you go back through the video from 2:40, it shows you some of the questions that you should be asking yourself when writing out your responses. Try to link examples of where you have shown what they are looking for. Mentioning the police's aims and missions is great so long as you support this by examples and why you think its important.

+Rayal BW Hi there, the following is a general guide: To be eligible applicants must meet at least one of the following qualification criteria: Have reached an educational standard of 2 x A-Levels (or above) or an equivalent qualification. Note: individuals with qualifications higher than the minimum educational requirement will also be eligible to apply. Have achieved an academic or vocational qualification gained outside England and Wales which is considered by the UK National Recognition Information Centre to be a level 3 qualification. Have previously served, such as in the military or armed forces, or similar law enforcement agency, where the applicant has successfully completed the minimum term of service (usually four years, but exceptional cases of shorter periods may be considered) and has achieved an exemplary reference on discharge. Have completed and passed the Level 3 Certificate in Knowledge of Policing.Be a serving Special Constable* with the Police who has attained independent patrol status at the time of application. Be a serving Police Community Support Officer* with the Police who has successfully completed their probationary period and gained independent patrol status at the time of application. Be a serving member of Police staff* and have successfully passed probationary period and has the support of the senior management team to confirm that they are suitable for consideration to be appointed as a police constable.
