Just passed mine today. They were very impressed. Just like you stated.... 1. Tell us about yourself? 2. What motivates your day to day routine? 3. What are your strengths and weaknesses? 4. Where do you see yourself within this organization? 5. What made you choose this Sheriffs office? 6. Are you prepared to take a military-style Police boot camp? They will be yelling and screaming at you and you may get punished for others doing something wrong. 7. What is the biggest obstacle in your life and how did you overcome it. 8. What 1 person from all your jobs do you consider the best leader you have had and why. 9. Explain your work ethic. 10.Why should we chose you? 11. Is there anything you would like to add to the table. My panel was in front of 7 High ranked Sheriff Deputies and 2 HR personnel. The key is to be confident with all your answers and show off the real you!

Just passed my oral board wanted to pass along helpful Information because I needed it when I was preparing. #1. Tell me about yourself and why you want to work for this department. That starts the interview off, have something short but effective to say here. A few other situational questions involving stress, integrity, deadly force. It is nerve wrecking sitting across from 3 high ranking officers but if you have any life experience use it to your advantage and make it fit the questions.

You’re dispatched to a domestic, a man is holding a gun with his wife and child in front of him, what do you do? 5. You see yourself partner steal a chocolate bar, what do you do? 6. Is it justified to use deadly force on an unarmed suspect, give an example.

I just came back from my Oral Board. I did lots of studying and note taking from others and especially, from you sir! I want to thank you for creating this helpful video. I rehearsed and left the 3 panel officers with a smile plus, we will be in touch soon, after being escorted out the to the doorway. Tell us a little about yourself? This question is the ice breaker to get to know you and set the tone. Weakness, Strengths you are going to get them both. Personal questions are relatively first off, to get to know you. Next the scenario-based questions, or dynamic questions. Study for these, for the most part and get info over the agency you've applied to. Other than that keep calm make them answers short and sweet. Good luck ya'll .

You should absolutely right your mom or anyone else a ticket for going 80 in a 25. If you say no that shows your bias. 80 in a 25 is extremely reckless and could easily result in the death of a bystander.
@Giambis4 ай бұрын
Bias is negated due to the allowance of discretion by police. I’m not a police officer, I am a prosecutor but if I choose to write you a ticket for one thing and let 25 other people go for the same thing that you did it is 100% legal and I do not have to explain why I they did it. I was a prosecutor when I started doing this for a Municiple Court and during July 4 one year a single person received a fireworks ticket as about 400 other people were let go. This guy got the ticket because he was an @$$hole and was mouthy to the officer . He paid for a $700 lawyer to drop the $500 ticket and fight in court and he still lost. Determining “bias” is for the courts , not for your opinion being a member of the public.

Hi thank you so much! This video was extremely informative and very helpful it honestly just put my mind at ease! I recently passed my oral board interview!!! 😊
@roydied1526 күн бұрын
I had my first oral board "panel" interview last night and they definitely threw a curveball at us. I watched this video and many others to prepare for it and even talked to my sister (who works for an undisclosed sheriff's department and is on the panel to interview new candidates). The entire experience was extremely odd and unlike any of the videos I've seen. I took my written test the day after black Friday (11/28) and didn't receive my letter telling me that I even passed until a week ago (received 12/28). The letter had no RSVP or anything, it simply said "congratulations, you passed the written exam for _______ police department" and then gave us a time/date/location and said to arrive before 6PM, as the interview would begin promptly. I arrived at 5:15 to check in. There were 2 groups last night; a 5:30 and a 6:00. The 5:30 was a group of six and the 6:00 (my group) was a group of four. They told us that the interviews were conducted in no particular order, that they were all alphabetical (which is somewhat believable because all four people in my group's last names began with the letter D), but I am curious if this was even true? As the group of six were all CLEARLY super young people between the ages of what I would have guessed 21-25, whereas everyone in my group was 30+, myself being the oldest at 33. They told us to be there before 6PM to check in, so I showed up at 5:15 as we were told it would begin promptly at 6PM. In reality, my group wasn't called in until almost 7:15. When we finally walked in, there were four chairs, each with a colored sheet of paper, which we were then told we would be addressed by the color of the sheet of paper, rather than our names or even a number. I was "candidate red" and there was a yellow, orange, and I believe green. They had me go first, then the next guy, then the guy after him, then green (on the end) and had each person answer one question first, which were a mix of scenario questions, but also ethical/political questions such as "A city has just cut welfare by 50%. How does this affect their police department?" The first person to answer would have one minute to come up with a response and then each candidate would have one minute to reply. The final question was in regards to "how does a police department improve relations with the public?" and we were given the choice to answer as a group, or answer individually. I asked my group "do you want to answer as a group?" and they all said "absolutely" so I asked them "who wants to represent us?" and they were like "we'll all take turns talking" and I told them that wouldn't work, that we would all end up taking over each other and being a disorganized mess (foreshadowing) and that we needed to elect a representative. They all continued to argue with me so I pointed to the guy on the end and said "I want you to speak for us, since you had arguably the best performance tonight" (which was BS, but was trying to "coach" him and motivate him, to demonstrate my own leadership skills in front of the panel, since I would say I kinda blew the doors off the other candidates). After it was all done, the head of the panel stood up and said "congratulations, you all did a great job tonight. I apologize for putting you all in a pressure cooker, but this was our way to see how all of you would fold under pressure. This is just a little taste of the much larger stress that awaits you in police work." The officers I did my ride along with as well as my sister said that in most cases, when it comes to these boards, its not necessarily what you say but more so how you say it. There's no way you can explain how to fix public relations or welfare benefits in 1 minute, and I even was cut off mid-sentence a few times. However, I spoke slowly and clearly, I made eye contact and constantly scanned the room, I sat straight and didn't crinkle my papers of tap my feet nervously, and I made sure to use impeccable grammar. The other three guys I was with, the entire time they were fumbling papers, mumbling, looking at their feet when they spoke, couldn't pronounce easy words (almost started laughing listening to them all saying the word "elderly") and the worst part was the sheer amount of ums/uhs they showed. Sorry for the long comment, but for anyone who reads this, again, I think you can bomb the question itself in most cases, but if you show conviction and confidence, you have a much better chance at passing the oral board than even someone who has great answers, but struggles to present them. I should receive my pass/fail letter in 3-4 weeks and will try and provide an update when I do.

It threw me off a bit about the part of writing your family member a ticket? That seemed kind of strange to say no.. wouldn’t that be being bias because it’s your mom? I just am skeptical about that answer.
@Justthatofficer2 жыл бұрын
It’s an honesty question. You have discretion and don’t have to write everyone a ticket. Even if you don’t like your mother you probably wouldn’t write her the ticket. Just answer honestly and you’ll be fine

Great video, one question for now: Why would I not write my mother a ticket if she was being a hazard to herself and the community that I have given an oath to protect? My initial response was yes, I would write my mother a ticket if she was going 80 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. I would think that’s a school or work zone and that’s insanely dangerous, right? Mind you my mother is about 80 years of age and not a speedster, but poor eyesight, so super dangerous for her to speed. So please help me understand the reasoning by the “no” to giving her a ticket. Also, isn’t that a felony?
@Justthatofficer Жыл бұрын
Definitely not a felony. It’s an honesty question as most people wouldn’t write their own mother a ticket unless they disliked her for some reason. If it was something extremely dangerous, well that can change the situation. They are looking for honesty here not the answer you think they want to hear. In the end yes and no are both correct as long as you have good reason to back up each answer.

What are things to do when turned down by agencies for prior drug use? They didn’t say that was the reason for not moving me forward but I’m assuming that’s why. It’s been 10 years since last usage. During that time I’ve turned my life around, joined the Air Force, did a contract and now doing an ART position in reserves. I just wonder why honesty isn’t always best with some departments. Great videos I just watched your whole series!
