All, please note the database for EASA ATPL exams has now changed for students sitting their first exams from Sept 2020. I sat EASA ATPL exams Sept 1st to 3rd 2020 in Ireland under the IAA. There is a much greater standard required now. ECQB06 Databanks won’t help you. The new standard is ECQB2020. The questions are KSA orientated and not strictly theoretically based. There is a big difference. Please be mindful of this.

kcthepilot thank you and much appreciated. The reason I posted was the stark contrast in questions I received in Air Law and Human Performance in the ECQB2020 standard versus ECQB06 standard. If this helps other students to prepare then happy days. Many thanks for pinning and keep safe everybody.

Noy aviation93_ Hi, I can only give my opinion on the new syllabus that I’ve experienced. One thing that is materially obvious is the KSA100 element in the new syllabus (Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes). The purpose of the new syllabus is to deal with the issue of new pilot entrants memorising question banks and posting good scores in their theoretical exams but the KSA just wasn’t prevalent in their capabilities after the ATPL theoretical porting of the ATPL(f). What I experienced in the new exams is a considerable emphasis on Knowledge and application of this knowledge to the subject matter of the exam. The questions asked are very granular. Additionally I experienced a lot of questions where you had to pick a combination of answers. Previously it was simply “a or b or c or d”. Now it’s “a,b,c or a,b,d or a,b,e or b,d,e” etc. A huge emphasis is on the knowledge portion still but how you apply it to the question asked whereas previously you just needed to know the question and the answer. Also the construction of the question is different. In Human Performance, I had questions that were 11 lines in length. So lots of detail in the question and under time constraints and increased stress of the exam environment, it really does test you. So perhaps this is EASA trying to test your Attitude and Skill for a knowledge based subject. Overall, do I think it’s better? Yes I do, it’s forcing you to understand and apply the knowledge to difficult situations that I’ve not experienced reviewing questions in previous banks. It’s forcing you to become and SME of the subject you are sitting whereas previously memorising questions potentially saw you through. If you apply this strategy to the new syllabus, dare I say it, you most likely will not pass. Is it better than the old syllabus? - yes.

PatrickConnolly good evening Patrick, Thanks for the feedback. One more question for you please, what books you used the most for knowledge? Do you think it is worth it to go over questions bank? Even tho I know I will do the new syllabus 2021?

The new UK CAA exams are really challenging, even the instructors do not know what they are on about. I only know a few people in the whole school who have managed to pass every exam first time by the end. I believe the head of my training organisation will be speaking with the CAA soon to discuss how unfairly difficult and ambiguous they have become so drastically. Instructors cannot prepare us adequately and there are little bank questions so far. I’m guessing airlines will have to adjust their criteria as having a few fails seems to be the new normal. Anyone taking these new exams I warn you to please prepare enough as they are catching out even the brightest of us.

use Atpl question people, the question have the same structure as the real exam, my authority was austria, all ways did all real questions austria and a couple time the last 200 especially the day before. And make sure u score 90% or higher

Hi KC, i have purchased your app for hour building, but it seems to me that all chapters are kind of a “check list” type of menu !! Am i seeing incorrect or doeing something wrong !? Because I assumed that the app is meant to support with the hourbuilding !

Hi @Nasser Jabor - first of all, thanks for getting the app. Exactly right as you said. The App is there as checklist items to target during hour building. The intent for the app was working back from CPL requirements : what are the main objectives and competencies needed during the CPL course and target practicing those ‘checklist’ items listed in the app during hour building to make the CPL curve easier. The app is not meant to be a ‘sat nav’ of wake up, go to airfield, where am I going to fly to, book the aircraft etc. Too much variability for me to ever meet everyone’s needs. What I though more useful is give the targets to aspire to for CPL and leave it up to the individual to work the CPL items in as situations allows. E.g. aircraft documentation, formality with flight planning, checklists, booking instructors periodically to work and stalling, spiral dives, PFLs etc

kcthepilot thanks for the quick reply. Might be an idea to add or make a new app for the requirements for hour building for each stage after the PPL. It can be sometimes confusing how many hours needed as pic, as total, as x-country etc.

Hey hows it going? Hope flying is going well for you as most pilots at this time are being laid off sadly. I was just wondering if I do the modular route do airlines care how long it takes? I'm planning on spacing it out for 4-5 years, from when I first get my PPL & start hour building. I know this is a long time but it's the most suitable for me, as I also plan to get another backup degree in engineering for a backup (will this degree help get in an airline btw? I know strong maths & physics skills are benficial). Or would you recommend completing the degree first then completing the course in 2-3 years?

If you do distance learning ATPL would it be possible to study like 3 to 4 times a week or do you really have to study every day to make the dead line ? do you you know anything about cpl theory licences as there is not much info out there , Cheers

Hi @Yogi Bizzel - everyone is different but to gauge the amount of work - I studied an average of 3 hours a day 5 days a week and it took me 8months. So if you do less or more then the timeline either shrinks or expands... Wishing you the best of luck

If got an FAA cpl license trying to get EASA, in my opinion FAA theory is more easier then the EASA
