As the youngest and most inexperienced on a College maintenance crew. I was surrounded by certified HVAC, Plumbers, & Master electricians. I had absolutely no prior experience. I found my self learning sufficient knowledge of all those trades. As time would have it, I soon had to fill the needs of the college, from leaks. This produced weekly damage & need for ceiling tile replacement. I became stuck with extremely aged flat roofs. My job became a cycle of hopelessly flex sealing. Following Weekly replacements of ceiling tiles.I went from a supervisor at my last job, to spending three years loosing value. I found myself on top of the roofs, searching for areas of penetration. The condition was is quite bad, and every contractor recommended lifting and replacing. With that not being an option. Becoming the Ceiling Tile Guy NOT being an option! I'm using every bit of knowledge you and your wife freely give. First I'll do my diligence till I repair 3 commerical roofs. Then I'll go start a commerical flat roof leak restoration business, and offer companies in need alternative solution like you! You're my hero brother! Seriously all the inspiration I need.

Pro-tip, if you cut on that side of the cutting wheel, you will always have binding. It will wear out cutting discs faster and can even cause them to shatter which could lead to injury. That said, everything about your videos is a amazing advise. Thanks for empowering me to fix the roof on my garage.

Hey Roof Doc im in northern cal and 22 yr old Garage shingles were leaking in a 2ft by 2 ft area, couldn't fix it with repairs, and couldn't locate the holes, and cant get a new roof until march 2022, so Turbo polyseal order arrived and i just took a paint brush and literally covered the whole area painting on that Turbo polyseal, heavy rains hit twice since and no leaks, i think some nails are leaking and shingles are cracked and leaking, but turbo stopped the leaks and no inside wood rafter damage is evident.

Hi doctor, are you using APP or SBS cap membrane? Please tell me which one you recommend for making a patch. I don't know if my current roof is APP or SBS.

Ok, when I started roofing you could only use APP for Torch Down and SBS was mop down. I the seams appears to have a lot of black tar that has flown out, then you most likely have SBS. For most of the time, most roofs are TOrch Dowm. I believe in the last 5 -8 years they have come out with a SBS that is a Torch Down too. It is safe to get APP to do the patches

Yes, it rained a few hours before we got to the job. Water was pooling in other places, and this metal pan had no water sitting on it

I dont see that adhering properly, use asphalt primer and on your overlap of cap sheet,heat it with torch and run trowel over granules to bury them into membrane and then torch seam together for a good bond.

Yeah, that seems like a temporary fix, he cut a few corners, at least on the video. I didn't see a fire extinguisher handy either.
