I've been catching up on so many projects, and finding new ones. I did quite a bit of concrete patching with a Quikrete epoxy product today, found a bigger section. This should do the trick, this tutorial was about perfect.

Great video. I just used a 40lb bag of this stuff and some of the smaller bucket sizes of this product to patch spalled sections on a pool deck. (One word of advice for future DIYers...buy more than you need! I ran short. I did all the steps save for the muriatic acid😬 hopefully it gives me a year or two. Not against breaking it all up and doing it right when it starts to fall apart. I was very pleased to see you measuring the water/concrete mix by eye. I was very worried I had mixed it too "wet" but it looked like yours when applying. I would say I mixed it to the consistency of Play-Doh in the bucket and when I placed it on my repair surface it began to act more like peanut butter. It was very easy to work with. Very intuitive. One side note. I saw on one video that it recommends you let it sit for a few minutes in the bucket before applying, to give the polymer bonding agents time to settle into the wet mix. Do you think this step is necessary? I've also heard a tip to first mix a small batch of slightly more "wet" mix and apply that first with a glove to coat the bottom of the surface to be repaired in order to allow the mix to flow into cracks and such. Have you had any experience with that?

I have heard of letting the cement "slake" or set a few minutes. I do try to do that sometimes. I can't really say that I see a difference one way or the other. If I have thin cracks, I would agree to mix it a little more wet. That makes perfect sense. Generally, this stuff is not meant for small cracks but in theory it does make sense. Thanks for your thoughts. Tom

Bisogna fare attenzione.

Next time use Tapcons on the broken parts so the new stuff can hold on better.. and use a bonding agent.. helps the new quikrete to bond
@AlleyPicked
@AlleyPicked Жыл бұрын
Probably so...I did use the muriatic acid. Some day, I should do a long term experiment on the effectiveness of using a bonding agent. Thanks for the suggestions.

I may have this wrong but didn't you mean 'up wind'? Anyway, I knew what you meant. This is a good day for learning about new (to me) products - I hadn't come across this vinyl patching product before. When I patched our back step I just used sand-and-cement. That was more years ago than I remember and I was just wondering yesterday if it needed a wee bit of attention. We'll see. Cheers Tom, that was an education.

Up wind is correct. I often put mistakes into my videos so my audience knows I'm not perfect. I know when things are wrong...I just want to see if anybody notices. You passed my test Mark.😁

Is the Vinyl patch similar to a polymer-modified cement?
@ml.2770
@ml.2770 7 ай бұрын
Yes. The 'vinyl' in the name is from poly vinyl acetate (basically elmers white glue) or ethylene vinyl acetate. The manufacturers special patching cement is very good, but you can polymer modify your own concrete with white glue and it works extremely well. White glue also makes a really good bonding agent before applying the patch.

One of my sidewalks has a lower spot and water accumulates when raining. The issue is that the water makes it into my basement and I need to fix it. I wonder why type of concrete I should use. Thanks in advance.

A mortar mix might work for filling it. Have to be careful what concrete you use as some have lots of rocks in the mix.

For the step repair the area was thicker than 1/4”. Did you put a layer and let dry, then another layer, etc? Thanks for video, very helpful.

Can that vinyl patch be grinded /ground with a diamond cup grinder after it is very well dried, or does it remain at all plastic or rubber like. I did some rough emergency patching a year ago and then needed to remove it. It bogged down the grinder. was very difficult to remove. I had to use a heat gun and then scrape/pull it off. I can't remember what I used. It sure did stick, and would not hardly 'chip' off.
@AlleyPicked
@AlleyPicked Жыл бұрын
This product is not at all plastic and rubber like. It's hard like concrete. It can be cut with a diamond blade. It probably can be chiseled off as well. The best chance of success (unlike my neighbor) is 2 things. Preparation of the old surface and don't spread it too thin. If you fail in these 2 things, it will look great for a year but after a cold winter...you will see it chipping.

Small cracks will re-appear if you use this stuff. They sell a flexible crack filler which I have not had very much success with in the long term either. I'm still trying to figure out what works the best. I was going to try some grey silicone caulk.

I need to ask what is that little red/white/black bird cutout on the side of your door. I found one in our basement just hanging on a wall not entirely sure it had a purpose, but your video is making me question that now? My guess its for hanging wet umbrellas?

A trick for colour. Mix some portand and make a really watery liquid. Add some black top soil and paint it over the patch when it has just setup.

@@AlleyPicked se pero' il supporto e' troppo bagnato ,quel cemento scivola. Bisogna aspettare che l' acqua asciughi un po'. Deve essere umido ma non bagnato.
