(Beware the expense', I bet he used $0.10cents worth of vinegar?) ;) Great+useful video particularly the time-lapse, obviously vinegar can be used on everything from a rusting barbecue to a rusting chain. very insightful. John, Perth, Australia.

I live in a semi desert area, (Perth Australia', northern hemisphere equivalents would be Tijuana in Mexico or Marrakesh in Morocco) and consistent with cranking up the salt and using neat vinegar reckon I've got a good chance of success, it's gotta be well worth a try, viewers are keenly invited to read the comments below. Ever try this with a mix of water based products?
@AlleyPickedКүн бұрын
I have not tried. I never use water based stains. Maybe I'll give them a try one day. I guess I am of the opinion "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Thanks for the comment and I will try to pick up a can of water based stain. Maybe I'll do a comparison video.

@@AlleyPicked I've only ever used oil based but I have a unique situration/issue. My place has Bruce Engineered Wood Flooring. It was most likely installed around 15 years ago. Maybe more. Several of the baords are water damaged and have peeled their finish. And of course, Bruce no longer makes it in a 3" wide. It gets better (worse, actually). There appears to be 4 different looks/shades of the planks, so I'm thinking of doing at least 2, maybe 3 of those shades in order to keep the look. Contacted Bruce to find out what color stain I can get to match the floor and they said that they don't really have a stain "per say," because the finish is applied in a certain "process." Some of my floor planks have peeled and it looks like the colorant is in the poly finish. The available poly + stain finishes don't match up to they planks I have. So. I thought I might try to match the "stain" color and mix with the poly myself. The worst part is that this Bruce Eng Floor is water based. I was surprised to learn that many flooring finishes are water based. No wonder it got damaged. Well, thanks for reading my long explanation.

Good video, thanks for sharing. As a professional finished carpenter with decades of experience and an semi professional woodworker; I avoid most everything with Minwax on the label. I hardly ever use oil based poly or paint for one reason; because since it takes many hours to "dry" it picks up all kinds of dust, requiring the need to sand each coat. Most water borne film finishes require very little if any sanding between coats. My advise to DYI finishers is to avoid the big box/hardware stores and go to a paint store or better yet a woodworking store and discuss waterborne products with them. Technology has pretty much eliminated the need for most oil and solvent based finishes.

Finally a video that has answered my personal questions.. I believe I now know what model I am going to purchase for what I want to do... Have you personally thought about adding the IR laser module as an after purchase for engraving metal ?
@AlleyPickedКүн бұрын
I have the xtool F1 which has both the Blue and IR laser. I get by with that for now.

I switched because of my dog and the stronger the vinegar, the better. I bought 45% and cut 50% and found it still worked great and added water again so I can't say the strength but a lot stronger than store vinegar, and it actually works better than the real or farmer roundup I have been using, oh and 2 cups of salt for 10 liters

I'm not so sure about auto grease in a heated compartment - fire hazard, and its potential to have lint, etc accumulate into it too, defeating the purpose of the grease. I'll go with dry graphite lubricant myself.

My mom has a decorative metal sign that has faded and rusted. I’ve been trying to find out what materials and methods I can use to refresh and paint a new image so that it can endure outdoor sun/showers/snow - at least for a few years. This seems like great info for setting down a great canvas. Would I be able to paint on top of a white coat like this with other art paint (acrylic or oil) and then successfully seal it with a clear coat? Her previous sign had words and flowers, so spray cans won’t work for the design but I don’t know what would be successful 🤷

I'm wondering about chemicals commonly found in plastic, with that lining, like PVC and BPA? There are shower curtain liners that are made without those, in addition to being antimicrobial (I don't garden so I don't know if that would be good or bad). Have you ever heard of the shou sugi ban method? Seems that would be a good option, either by itself or in combination with pure tung oil (or linseed oil for a more cost friendly alternative).. but from what I've seen shou sugi ban is sufficient by itself, I think.. IDK I just recently heard about it and was thinking about having my hubby build my daughter a garden bed because she DOES garden.
