HOW TO PEE OUTSIDE WHILE CAMPING & REDUCE RV DUMPING / PEE STANDING UP AS A GIRL - Boondocking in my Hymer Aktiv camper van is amazing; however the cassette toilet is small so often I pee outside in the woods or pee outdoors in order to conserve black tank space and RV dumping. In this video I address how to pee as a girl, how to be camping, how to pee outdoors, how to pee standing, how to pee standing up, how to pee while camping while using a female urination device - a PStyle - or a cup. Oftentimes when on a road trip you may need to urinate outside, pee in the woods, pee camping, pee hiking, so for us females, we can now pee like a man with this female urination device. I now can pee standing up and pee outside to boondock longer.

The whole black/gray tank or composting toilet issue is a major reason I'm not out there traveling. I lost my husband in December 2017 and my house is almost paid for and I'm debt free - so that isn't an issue as long as I was careful. I want to have an adventure but having to deal with all that really is not appealing. I live in California though and just don't want to anymore. And I don't want to get rid of all my stuff!!

Hahaha all over myself - what a mental image! 😮 Give this a try. Use two fingers to hold open your labia majora and clear the area of your urethral opening between your clitoris and vaginal opening. Should straighten up the stream. Additionally, try partial squat or standing with feet widely spread, that will help the slowly flowing part drip off instead of run down.

Terrific video. I have taught a lot of women to pee in the woods during my career working in the woods for the Forest Service or camping with friends. Great, practical advice SC and done nicely! A couple of additions - when peeing outside car open back door too, and pee between them. And while squatting hold on to a small tree or bush to help with stability.

Hi Marcia. When camping, guys use big mouthed bottles to avoid getting out of their tent. Do you have a suggestion for us women?

@@AmyB. I've used a plastic coffee can for that purpose with a snap on lid. I like Folgers cause it has a handle. If that's too gross to carry off for disposal, line it with a gallon plastic zip lock bag which can be carried to the disposal site a little bit more covertly. Just be careful in the tent, perhaps carry a small throw rug in case of little accidents! Coleman also makes a dandy tent potty that I've used in larger tents. It has a hard cover that makes it into a nice stool in the tent. I've also seen a little cheapo potty ring that snaps to the top of most 5 gallon buckets.

I have the same one and have used it several times, not just while camping. It's really great for those nasty restrooms you might have to use because you just can't wait any longer. I do recommend if you've never used one of these before to practice a few times. You have to train your body to relax enough to be able to urinate standing up, because we've been doing it sitting down our entire life. Some might consider this topic sensitive, but we all have bodily functions, so thank you for addressing it.

Paulette Deitz - Absolutely agree w/her AND you. This is soooo important for camping, hiking, etc., AND for SHTF time - whether 'natural' or man-made. (I prefer: when the 'stuff'' hits the fan - less rough/tacky-sounding...) However, this female toileting issue she provides is such common sense info but one that NObody wants to address. And - duuuh - it never occurred to ME to use that small device for those reeeally NASTY toilets that we often have no choice to use! I 'm getting one ASAP! Thanks!

Drove a semi for a few years and these are really good tips. I used a coffee can and wet ones disposed of separately. Many many times had to pee, no choice. Plus A woman working new construction, hanging wall paper, no doors or private rooms, scary stuff. Glad to see there are now alternatives. You go girl!

I guess I can talk about this here my kids and friends think I'm nuts ! Many truckers have seen my backside, I have just learned the tuck and wave move...….....tuck my head and wave my hand, they always give me a big long air horn honk :)) So I have found a really handy stand up, kneel on knees or squat urinal for women and best of all it's free. I use an empty container from nestle nesquik chocolate milk powder, the yellow oblong container that is a 1.16 lb size. It is narrow and oblong, it slips between your legs easily and hold 2 times without the risk of spilling, 3 if you have to but be careful. A little powder helps it slide :) The lid snaps on but is not spill proof though. I love it for tent camping, in the night I just get on my knees, no squatting and aiming into a round can, slide it between my legs and go, put the lid on and sit it in the corner so it doesn't spill and empty in the morning. Can be used in the car, camper or anywhere !!! I also use home made wet wipes, they are multipurpose for bottoms, hands, face or body. I make my own P-style urinal out of empty containers also. Just take a tall narrow bottle, say from body wash or similar, cut off the end with the opening, cut bottle in half lengthwise and slope the edges of the end that was already cut off.....whalllah.............a free stand up pee adapter !!! I have a tiny squirt bottle (reused from a throwaway) with vinegar and a travel pack of tissues and a 99cent pencil bag that it all fits in........perfect travel potty :)) This also works great for hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing, hunting.......I live in Northern Minnesota and it is cold to take off all your clothes when ya gotta go :))

I have one bathroom and living alone is no problem as I can go as needed.lol But 3 sharing one bathroom was a problem. One time while the bath was occupied I needed to go. I stood outside the door doing a jig of urgency......I finally went outside between 2 buildings and squatted. Oh what a relief that was.......but then I was stuck with my pants down and couldn't get out of that squat...Oh my, I liked to never got back up.....so I couldn't do that again....after that for the rest of the time I had HouseGuest's I kept my empty plastic coffee cans with lids for such an emergency.lol

Excellent video you BRAVE Girl!!! Liked 👍 I haven’t taken my trailer out yet but I did stay in it a month this summer in the yard while my floors in my house were being worked on. My trailer isn’t close enough to the house to hook the trailer to the sewerage so I peed in a 12oz halo cup and then poured the pee into a gallon glass bottle that was a gasket and a clamp top. It worked fine. For pooping, I taped a Reynolds Turkey bag to the inside of the toilet, sprinkled a little coconut coir (you buy it at a garden/hydro store) and poop on top of the coconut coir. When you are done, sprinkle a generous amount of cc and flatten it so you can go more than once per bag. The beauty of these turkey bags is once you close them no smell will leave these bags! They are amazing! Good if you aren’t near a trash can. I learned from Robin of Creativity RV that your poop only smells if it’s mixed with pee and omg that is SOOOOO true! Keep it separate and no smell! If the urine jar starts to smell just add a little vinegar. ❤️ your videos!!! 👍👍 PS this is for the 40 peeple that gave you a thumbs down 🖕

I love my P Style! I have tried many different types of FUDs including the go girl, and the P Style is by far my favorite. I used it frequently on camping trips and at festivals and now for traveling, I never go anywhere without it. It totally eliminates the need for TP, I love it! Good job on this video, I think it's funny how so many people shy away from these topics even though they're like some of the most universal experiences ever. I was actually wondering how long a 4-5 gallon cassette toilet would last and this video answered that too :) Thank you!

I tried a number of FUD's and the P-Style is my favorite. Easy to use, and fairly goof-proof. A trick I was told was to lean forward a little to help direct the flow and remain tinkle-free. In my Scamp, I have a Reliance potty hassock (bought on Amazon). I added a urine/poop separator (bought on eBay) which I installed under the seat, a small vessel to hold the urine, and a plastic bag with peat moss in the included bucket to hold the poop - kinda like a C-Head or Nature's Head composting toilet. Since I don't usually boondock (just non-electric campsites in one of the many beautiful MN State Parks), I use this mainly for nighttime/rainy days. I even sewed a cover for it so it looks like a real hassock. Great topic, great presentation.

Appreciate you being so open about this topic. I try to use the indoor facilities only in emergencies and actually prefer to "go" outdoors when it's appropriate. I carry TP with me and bring it back to the van's garbage can to dispose of. I was really disappointed while camping to see other ladies have left TP waste behind in various places.

You know they sell rolls of doggie pick-up waste bags that people could use, rather than leave their tp being...that is not a nice thing to leave behind...besides that, it just doesn't look very nice left there either. I started carrying a roll of those doggie pick-up waste bags with me...just tear one off, stuff it in there, tie the top and dispose of it that way in a waste receptacle. They don't cost very much at all and you get a gob of those rolls...one roll will last you a very long time, so there is no need to leave your tp behind.

Stopped in the desert once on a trip in a van. We stopped at a rustic area along side the road. Some signs that said "beware of snakes at night" scared my wife, so later during the night she had to go. Simply stood up in the side door and let fly. Never had seen a woman pee standing up. She said necessity and fear of snakes change the rules.

I have purchased a disposable FUD online and it worked great until the one time it didn’t. I was in NOLA and the stall was just plain nasty. I had clearly not remembered all the tips. So yes.... lean forward and tip the front down. The front must be lower than the “source”. I also have a urine bottle that I purchased on line. It’s plastic and can be used by both men and women. I keep it in the car and luckily we have not needed to use it yet. Happy boondocking to you! Great vid!

One of the reasons I spent the money to purchase a rig that functions for me. I can boondock for 10 - 12 days without even trying or doing anything out of the ordinary to conserve holding tank capacity. I'm happy with my purchase and when I see videos like this, I pat myself on the back for the decision I made. No worries about navy showers, washing clothes, and extreme measures to conserve water or power. I did my stint of minimalism during my youth when it was all I could afford. So now I'm enjoying life. As to the structural build up of solid waste... pee + poo = toxic waste! Instead of urinating in your container, use plain water so it doesn't become so toxic. I prefer composting toilets that separate the liquids from the solids so there aren't problems like this. The jug of liquid can be dumped anytime and if you have a second, back up one it's even better. Solid waste goes into a container with something like cat litter and it is easy to dispose of also. With these you don't have to mess with a blackwater or cassette tank; it's as easy as taking care of a cat box.

Great video! We always sink a small butter tub in the RV toilet and dump it outdoors, or place a bag that is designed for elderly porta potties inside the tub. The bag has an absorbent matter inside and it has no odor, we dispose properly when needed. We try to dry toilet as much as possible, and always use public facilities if we can. We have a black tank, but I do know people with extra cassettes for their toilets so they can extend time out on the road.

Thank you for bringing this topic out of the (water) closet. I am a photographer and I could be on the populated beach when nature calls. I have been exploring different female pee methods. I am not too proud to use an actual diaper. I use a $1 store puppy pee pad to keep my seats clean. I can pee in public when I really have to. I know these products are not camper friendly, but I need to be more discreet when there is more than a stray trucker around.

Great subject for women who have to urinate often even if you still live in your home! I could see the benefits of saving water! I have a private backyard where I don’t have to worry about neighbors. When I use to travel a lot I didn’t like going on the ground in an unfamiliar area. I have always kept a large coffee can with the lid especially when I camped in a tent. Just an FYI for all you well-intentioned folks recommending vinegar as disinfectant: many people find the smell of vinegar offensive. (Frankly, I think it smells worse than urine and burns my sinuses as well.) I can always tell when someone has used it to clean in their home.

I just made a pee device for women out of a handle from a milk jug using the corner and the handle. Pretend you are making a scooper except you cut off the to part of. handle so it will pour out. I line the inside RV toilet with a plastic bag, place the seat ring down. Use like a normal toilet. Sprinkle litter after use, remove plastic as needed and throw away. No bucket, no funky toilet seat, just plastic bags and litter. Now...if you don't have a toilet in your RV then the bucket or the female peeing thing is fabulous. I actually figured out about the plastic bag method while living in a stix & brick house with a plugged toilet. 20 years ago I knew a lady that used an apparatus for peeing. Love it!

For those of you who don't know, Walmart sells female urinating devices very cheaply, and the plus is, you can use them in your rig without having to go along the side of the road where you can be "caught with your pants down" . LOL They are screwed onto a bottle which stores the urine until you are able to empty it. I do not agree that it's okay to just toss the urine wherever you are though, especially in hot climates, as the odor can become intense. That could mean that the next person camping there would be subject to YOUR urine odors. I think we should be more respectful of the environment and others by finding an area where there are shrubs or woods in which to dump it, away from the general camping spots. With one of the female urinating devices I mentioned, you can put a cap on the bottle and take it to the next rest room you find if you are unable to dump it where you are boondocking. Also, if you get one of the bottle type devices, you can add an ounce of ammonia to the bottom and that will remove the odor in the bottle when storing overnight. And further, you can keep a larger container (liquid laundry detergent bottle) if you urinate a lot, and store it until you are able to empty it properly. I did enjoy this video and got a lot of laughs out of the presentation as you really are funny! LOL Thanks for sharing with us!

I assumed she was speaking in general terms. Certainly there are places you wouldn't want to dump urine. It does seem me that when she is boon docking, she is in a pretty open spot and could go several days without tossing anything in the same place twice. Laundry detergent bottles are a great idea, though. And I've heard other van dwellers say it's easy enough to carry one of those in a tote discreetly into a public washroom to dump.

Hey a Guy here with that other anatomy. I use the large laundry plastic capped container one in my shop & one near my basement office desk. Always capped.of course where l add alittle pine sol after each empty. My house bathroom is upstairs and l dont want to drag shavings, sawdust, etc up on the carpets. Works great as l'm at the age stage where there's Male frequency. This young lady did a super job with this video. We were just Boondocking near the lake at Government Wash last week. It REEKED of urine. However it is a popular fishing spot so maybe its just that way in large quantities? Never had that smell happen before! Great tips! We bought a $2 bucket and a $12 toilet cover for overnight poops. And put it outside with a garbage bag lining it. Was Thinking of using cat litter on bottom of bucket maybe for urine. Clumping of course😂

Awesome video on a personal topic! I'm in my mid 50's now and have spent many years living, hiking and traveling in the woods. I've perfected the squat out of necessity. Now, spending time in my RV, I've been able to use some of my pee tricks on the road. One of the things I do, and it may seem gross to some, but if you have a dog you should already be doing this....I do #2 outside in a private area, and always use the same area.....first, preparing the area by digging a cat hole. Then, #2 goes in the cat hole, but gets collected in a dog poop baggy, tied closed and treated just like my dog's poop. I keep a sealable container in the cargo area of my RV to store the baggies until they can be disposed of properly. Then, when I leave that area, I can fill the cat hole up, which covers any remnants that may be left behind. ( No pun intended!) This has worked for me in most places I've stayed that did not have an outhouse or other toilet facility.-Sue

Very interesting and useful info!!! Have switched about two years ago from reusable toilet paper aka several packages of baby washcloths purchased from the dollar store(old cut up tshirts, sewing is an impossible no go for me but the cut up tshirts threads tangled up in the wash machines); some use the reusable cloths for urinary and/or defecation. Depends on personal preference. When camping i did use old crappy but so soft t-shirts and disposed of 'properly'. Urine doesn't smell if allowed to dry/air out in laundry. I toss them in with my clothes. Before putting in dryer, I pour about a cup of white vinegar on top of the baby wash cloths. These cloths are placed on top of my larger clothes to catch any spillage. The cloths are directly disinfected,&deodarized before they go into the dryer. The cloths then double up as fabric softener sheets. At that point, I only was using about one doubleroll of toliet paper a month. But sometimes using babywipes for a better clean. Didn't make too much economical sense. And I don't want to dyi in wet wipes although for my grandkids visiting i might reconsider...Recently my curiosity found me purchasing online Portable Bidets. Marketed as an updated hospital peri bottle but with an angled tip to clean bottoms very impressively. Some marketed to post birth moms. Some marketed to males as 'The Boss'. And everything in between. I settled for one of the many generics. A two pack for $12. Reviews range from don't like, to like me--took me a few weeks of trying to get the hang of it,,; but overall I can deal with minor annoyances like water dripping on the floor(,I keep a cleaning cloth nearby); and sometimes my aim is off so a wet wipe or piece of toilet paper to doublecheck. But my savings on toilet paper from one doubleroll month is probably going to extend fairly easy to two to three months...as for other uses, the 2nd unit is going to my daughter. The pre teens will probably get their own but too busy with society&conversion might prove difficult. But when I explained how it might be useful when potty training her toddlet for a quick practically no cost (our area pays for water usage per drop), less messy cleanup she is enthusiastic. As for returning to camping myself, i might add black duct tape to warm the water if outside too cold. And add to the possible usage of a much stronger water pressure to do more of a quick shower/clean upextending to places including the armpits. Not a lot of water for my 15oz bottle but pressure makes up for it. More appealing than the cumbersome black solar showerbag with lame water pressure. Personally I don't think at any cost or lifestyle level a perfect toilet system exists; but this is after many attempts works for me in clean, eco conscious and cost wise although when camping I see several of yr ideas I will be incorporating to up my goals&comfy levels to simply&humanely survive.

Jenny Eagan please do some research.studies have shown that washing machines do not get rid of fecal matter, or urine virus or bacteria’s. . The hot water is NOT hot enough to sanitize. Okay for fear of tmi and i kind of wrote that indiscretelty as best i could...i've seen awhile back, i believe on a tv show 'extreme cheapskates' a mom that in a family of several kids, they used 'reusable toilet paper' for 'both'. I do agree fully with you in the fecal matter situation. Disgusting and too much of a sanitary/hygiene issue(s). For that, a portable bidet helps out a lot in personal hygiene, wallet/budget costs, personal cleanliness; personal use reviews online range but I recently moved so the toilet type&situation does make a difference in effectiveness. Also, it keeps this generation toilet products from being super strong, super thick ect ect and it can really cause havoc on aging sewer systems I will always keep a supply of toilet paper on hand. Crapping is just never going to be a perfect system. But also, the 'system' it took me awhile of tried and true, this and this video's helpful tips overall work best for me. Allows me to lessen up a lot of having to constantly check on a steady supply of toilet paper on hand, the rising costs and almost the lifelong ritual of lugging home the urea-formeldeyhyde treated stuff(plus other chemicals like a semi trucks diesal gas to transport plus my gas from store to home). Almost like an insane modern day&times cultural ritual.

Jenny Eagan I understand.I am a huge environmentalist and recycler. I hate the clear cutting of forests to make toilet paper. But it’s been scientifically proven that when you wash all these wipes in with your other clothes that you spread the bacteria, viral loads and whatever is inhuman wastes onto your other clothing.so you are sleeping on, and wearing fabrics drenched human waste by products. At then at the VERY LEAST, you could be washing these cloth toilet wipes separately in bleach (just like cloth diapers). It’s not worth the risks! And if you have children or elderly in your home, or anyone sick....with compromised immune systems....you are really encouraging risks to their safety.

We used to do a lot of sailing and tent camping before. We just purchased Urination Bottles. It’s a hospital style bottle with lid. There is a Men’s Bottle with lid, and my wife has a Vag Bottle with lid. Both are clear plastic, so that you can see how full it is. You dump it out in the morning. The Women Vag Bottle can be placed as close as possible to you private area, and then do your business. You can get them at Medical Supplies Stores, Walmart’s, and most RX supply places. Most sporting Stores have a cover for a 5 gallon bucket and it comfortable and holds you well for #2 business.

A girl in another video said she couldn't keep the pee device from leaking, but a soft funnel she later bought from Walmart works perfectly for her. She showed how the funnel is soft enough to collapse sideways while in use Maybe you could test and report on the funnel method as well.

I recommend that if you RV in a city that has rain sewers to park over the sewer and put a camera under the truck with a light that you can control from inside. Then guide a PVC pipe through and under your van and put a large funnel over the PVC and do your urinating into the funnel and it goes straight into the sewer. Then run some water through the funnel and pipe to clean. Then pull the pipe back into your van, turn off the camera and light and your done. It works for me and no one notices what I'm doing.

I feel like you did a very good job with that video. I know that it is not easy to talk about and nobody wants to talk about going to the bathroom but it is a very very important thing that we all have to do. I am a guy so of course it's different for me, I do basically the same thing but I use a 5 gallon bucket instead of the toilet in my RV with a 13-gallon bag I also try to urinate outside when possible I've heard that it's actually good for the trees. The reason why I responded to your video which I just happened to come across, is that I felt you did a very good job talking about a subject that nobody wants to talk about and you did it with class, but at the same time let people know what needed to be known, it was all so cool that you weren't shy and didn't seem uncomfortable about talking about it, this kind of made me like your personality because it made me feel like you are real, and not a fake person which I cannot stand. Anyhow just thought I would let you know that I thought you did a good job on that and I'm sure a lot of the women out there appreciate it it's something that needs to be talked about, and nobody wants to talk about it oh, it would probably also be very hard for a lot of people to ask somebody how they do that on the road. Also I just thought I would let you know I saw on a video one time where a lady said did the silicone type a food funnels that you buy like at Walmart or Target ended up being better than any of the personal devices she can find for a woman for urination, she said that the silicone type a funnel is very flexible, and that she found it worked better than any of the personal urination devices are whatever you want to call them worked. like I said I don't know because I'm a guy but I thought maybe you might want to check that out and if it's true put the word out to the other women out there it's going to be very frustrating, especially for us bigger people, it would be very hard also for me to squat that's why I always carry a five gallon bucket with the luggable loo toilet lid on it, and a 13 gallon bag, a lot of people sprinkle and Little Pete Moss, or coconut shavings or something after every use, I usually don't do that because I'm not trying to compost it, but some people say it helps. I keep the bucket in the bathroom part of my camper what's the roof vent open and the lid down I never have any problems with smell. Then when I need to I just tied the bag in a knot, I usually put it inside of another bag and tie it in a knot, and then I just throw it in the dumpster, I figure this is what everybody does with their baby diapers so I'm not doing anything that they don't do, this way I do not have to smell a holding tank or worry about a place to dump one, I use organic dish soap, and I dump my gray water on a tree, I spoke to a lady that works for BLM and she said this was fine that the only thing they might be concerned with is a possible seed or something getting into the environment so she said if you really wanted to be careful you can put some kind of a screen over the tip of the hose for your gray water to drain out of that way they cannot say that you could be introducing things into the environment such as a seed or something from your dishwater. So I do that my urine usually goes on a tree and the only thing I have to worry about getting rid of is my number to which is bagged, and of course my trash. Anyhow you did a good job on that video and you did it with class without being embarrassed or fake oh, I think you did a good job, take it easy

For pee , I found a large funnel works well. Like the kind used for an oil change. Also what works well is an inexpensive plastic plant watering “can”. I found one at ikea for a dollar, has a large oval top opening, with a long narrow spout. Then pour the pee in a laundry detergent bottle that had a large opening. Dump appropriately later.

When our half--bath toilet backed up, I poured straight Pine-sol Original into the disgusting mess until we could get someone out to fix it (why are they always in Florida when your toilet backs up?!). I did that every couple of days, for two weeks (thank God for two toilets! lol!), so we had no odor after the initial incident & clean-up/ scrub-down, and it wound up dissolving everything, all the way out to the sewer trunk line. We were able to flush the toilet without further incident, plunger-ing, or damage to the pipes from use of a caustic liquid, so we cancelled the expensive Plumber. I gained a whole new appreciation for Pine-sol. Love that stuff, now.

Good video. What can I add? Well when I pee beside my van, I have only one door that opens out. So I park strategically. Other thing is I just sit on the edge of the sliding door edge to pee, saves my knees and I can put my feet far away to avoid splashes. If no good strategic spot, I just lay my coat over my legs. I would DEFINITELY recommend a composting toilet bucket rather than a black tank or porta toilet. It's a true wonder how the compost works! Just need the right moisture, damp, but that's it. Way easier than dealing with a big lump of shit stuck in your tank!!! Thx for the video. Nicely done.
