Күн бұрын

Kathy gave me a tour of her Born Free 2009 Casual Elegance 22 foot RV. It's made by Born Free out of Iowa and this B+ RV is built like a yacht. I'm so surprised by the craftsmanship and quality of this Born Free RV with its fiberglass outer exterior including the roof and side steps. I was blown away by Kathy's beautiful RV and the modifications that she made to her RV to tailor it more to her liking and travel style as she travels around the United States this year.
Kathy also shares her story about being a solo female traveler, her boondocking experiences, the fear that many people get when starting out RVing full time, moochdocking, and Harvest Host locations she has camped at recently.

★ My Story
Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started full time RV living. I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of traveling full time in an RV and creating incredible memories.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B van on a Promaster 2500 chassis. Now in my 4th year of RVing in my camper van, I'm still loving this RV lifestyle and being a digital nomad. I almost always boondock in nature and really enjoy that off grid living.

Yes Kathy you should start your adventures on KZbin include you dog. I own a home and Iam in process of selling it as Iam trying to figure out which system I should buy. Iam 60yo and not sure how much traveling I want to do. Your BORN Free home looks very nice. I first thought abought a Nissan cargo van or cargo trailer, but so many rules about where you can stay?? I see women travel by themselves it looks like fun. Born Free looks like it would be good for WA state winters, but Scottsdale, AZ would be nicer for October to May then go to WA for June to September. I live I WA state 2000 to 2001 we had lots of Rain & wind!! I think western WA is pretty, eastern WA more desert like but winters are very cold. Coldest winters are in Nebraska Iowa & Minnesota, so I would say western WA winters are not as cold as midwest winters.

@@storychasing I agree 110%, if we all could have had a crystal ball. Everyone including me complains about the high prices of a new campers. There's Born Frees, Scamps, Casida's, Air Streams just to name a few that are being sold 20 years later that at the time seemed over priced for more then then they sold for new just because the roof did not leak and destroy the trailer. Look on Craigslist there's trailers 10 years old being sold as scrap just because of roof leaks.

Loved this!! Beautiful RV and lovely Kathy! I do want to add my thoughts about #2 in the toilet ... gah ... alert ... more about toilet issues than you might want to know! Anyway, I have lived and travelled in my 33 foot Winnebago Adventurer ... 8 months plus full time as well as a lot of 3-4 month, and assorted travels over 16 years. So ... poop does not remain solid if there is plenty of water :) ... and if you routinely dump black and then gray, the gray cleans the hose. I have never had an issue with a smelly hose ... really! And actually, the gray water smells worse than the black. One thing I do, is I do not put tp or anything other than what exits my body into the tank. I have a flip lid waste can, but after adding a bidet attachment to my home toilet, I thought ... huh, I could use the toilet cleaning thing to have bidet in the motorhome ... wash, don't wipe and you will never go back. There ... much, much more than you wanted to know, probably.

Love Kathy. Thank you both for this video. I've been camping for over 50 years solo female and my hubby of 51 years is not a camper. I just bought my first USED RV a 21 foot B+. It's going to be a new challenge for me for sure. I looked at a few Born Free B's but never was able to nail one. Living in rural MT has made it a big challenge in securing a sale. However when I wasn't looking one came along two weeks ago and a neighbor drove me the 10 hours one way to pick it up and of course back with me driving it back. An older B+. Though I tell people I will feel no more safer in an RV than I did in a tent and perhaps a wee less. I mean really I can't slit a wall and escape if need be. I have gal friends now saying they will camp with me but never in a tent. I did have girl friends who did on occasion camp with me in a tent. Including a 78 year old for 14 days. I turned my Mom into a tent camper in my college days in the 70's. I'm keeping my tents for now. Mind you like Kath I stay aware and alert and I feel I can protect myself if need be. And like Kath I do not share openly what those are. My Mini-Mo has a few blemishes to be taken care of. No accidents but her age and lack of some TLC over the years needs attention. She came with new tires, new microwave, new kitchen faucet etc. A wet bath I was hoping to nail one with the shower space but I also knew I would probably end up compromising and sure enough that's one of them. Love the quality Kathy's unit has. Happy she's such an enterprising and fearless lady. But to be fair to all those ladies I've run across over the years of all ages there are a lot of us out there camping in tents, RV's and in between. I was told last year while enjoying my favorite campsite that I was the 4th single lady that year by the camp host. Mind you never had a camp host before over the 20 years of camping there on and off. But Lizzy from AR was traveling to this neck of the woods in MT every summer in her then 3rd converted Van she said her son in CO would help her convert to a camper and she was in her 80's. She too favored that campsite. Lots of shade pretty private only one other campsite across a creek and no shared lane. A pretty new outhouse across the road and so made that easy to enjoy too. So here's to all the ladies who love to camp. Many of do have husbands and significant others who aren't into it. I sense my life is changing....and yes it's good to grow at any age. I've got a few cold months left to reupholstery and do work that isn't dependent on warmer temps. This was just one of those Gems to run across here on KZbin today. Great job and happy camping everyone.

We did it! We found our Born Free rv! we haven't picked it up yet because we have to go to Ohio to get it, but we are sooo excited! We were so impressed by the Born Free units we saw on KZbin. We'd looked at Bs and considered truck campers but we would have had to buy a truck...So soon we will be driving a 24' Born Free 2006 on a Ford 450, in perfect condition. It's considered a Class C. So thanks for helping us to find our rig.

Our first motorhome was a Born Free 24ft Rear Bath. Loved it!! We actually used our bathroom, both for showering and . . . well, you know. Did several years of research before buying it. The build quality and safety features were the deciding points. The founder of Born Free, John Dodgen, and his wife actually rolled their Born Free down an embankment while on a night trip. They were standing by the roadside when the emergency vehicles arrived. Totalled the Born Free, but they were saved by the roll bars. It's so sad that Born Free is no longer in business. :-(

We sold our junk 5th wheel 35TMS Grand Junction because my husband was sick and tired of fixing/working on it…and we bought it new…what junkie manufacturing!
