Here's the best, simplest and fastest method of peeling a lot of potatoes, large or small, that I have found.

Update! The method works just as well with carrots. We had a great crop of carrots and needed to can them, so I tried this same method on the carrots and it worked great!

Hi there ! Thanks for the great video- I was just looking at this and wondered if I could do it with carrots- then I seen your comment! I`m using store bought carrots - I just want a fast way to peel them in bulk, I assume you chopped them in half/ diced as you were going to can them?? Is it necessary to do this first before peeling? Or does it just work better? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated- one farmer to another from the other end of the pond!

@@stewartdahamman , Sorry for the late replay. I cut the carrots into lengths that would fit into a 500ml mason jar, but did NOT cut them lengthwise or dice them. Hope this helps..!

@@closetpicker Great, I appreciate you still replying to the comment! Do you still do this? I tried this, but I also attached wet & dry sandpaper to the side of the bucket. Doing this to the carrots released a terrible smell and the quality of the peeling was good enough to make it worth while. I found a machine the peels carrots just by pushing them through, so shouldn't release any smell, but I have yet to find one at a reasonable price- a Paderno World Carrot Peeler, available in Plastic or Stainless steel. In the end I just found it to make more sense to buy frozen baby carrots as they are cheap, clean and ready for cooking!

I remember seeing a video for peeling potatoes fast and I believe it was a mixer for sheetrock mud. It was a square/rectangular shaped type mixer. I've only seen it done one time and it was here on YT. Thank you for your time 😊 let me know if you happen to try with a mixer?

Water and electric drill 😱

Been doing this for about 7-8 years now. Same drill, too. Still alive.... If you understood electricity, you would understand why this isn't really dangerous. Hint: ground fault breakers for all outside outlets.

shouldnt you wash your pails before putting the potatos in them ....dont think i would eat taters outta a nasty bucket like that

The pail is clean. The dirt is the same dirt the potatoes grew in; nothing nasty about it. Plus, the potatoes will get a final, thorough wash before canning.

I don’t think I want to use a drill with a power cord, into a pail of water and standing on a wet surface. For me, cordless is the way to go.
@closetpicker
@closetpicker 3 жыл бұрын
@@sqwrrl , cordless is fine, but spins a lot slower. My drill is double insulated, grounded, and my exterior outlets are ground fault protected, so even if I dropped the drill into the bucket, I would still be safe. Thanks for the concern, nonetheless..!

closetpicker lol I have huge respect/fear of electricity and water. Don’t mind me, sounds like you know what you’re doing. Just so none of your three safeties fail.
