In this video I paint the byzantine Icon of Virgin Mary and I explain the process of blending the skin tones on her face. I have done a better job in showing my glass palette and mixing on it the pigments so that you can get a better idea on it.
I hope this will be a useful tutorial for a process that is very confusing and hard in iconography

That red might be hematite red or indian red. At least someone else in an iconography video recommended that red as useful, and the pictures look similar. Great video, once again! I'm still learning to draw and impatience to start painting.

Hi there, I really like your work, thanks for sharing. The red color that looks like burnt clay is called terracotta, I think.

Lovely. I mix the colours the same way. Straight out of the dry pigment jar. That way i get zero waste. I know iconographers who mix the colour with emulsion in plastic containers. This is good for wall painting, but in icons, one uses such a small amount that the rest of the mixed colour will dry up in the container or start to stink.
