HOW TO PERFECTLY STYLE SHELVES | 3 WAYS TO DECORATE A BOOKSHELF | EASY + AFFORDABLE STYLING TIPS

Hello everyone! The interim between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays always leaves me feeling like I need to revamp and refresh my everyday home decor. In today's video, I'll be showing you how to perfectly style your bookshelves in 3 easy and affordable ways. I'll restyle and arrange my bookshelf (renter-friendly) in neutral, black and white, and colorful color-scheme to show you how to decorate, accessorize, and vignette a small space like an expert.
So many homes have large built-in cabinets and open shelving units and it can become a task to style each and stay on budget. I will be using coffee table books, home decor accents, and home goods/accessories that I've sourced from HomeGoods, HomeSense, Goodwill, Wayfair, eBay, and Etsy amongst other second-hand thrift stores and Facebook Marketplace. There is no need to buy luxury or expensive decor items, you just need to know what items to choose and how to style and position each.

Happy Friday, Beau! My days have recently been occupied by my husband and I adopting two senior Shih Tzu who are needing a lot of attention since one of their previous owners passed away. The widow needed someone to care for them and we volunteered. We love dogs and have missed having them in our home. We couldn’t have dogs while living overseas but now we are settled down and more stable. Consequently, I haven’t had much time to look at KZbin and YOU especially. Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves kzbin.infoUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

There are treasures waiting there, and though I wish more people were open to shopping there, I also appreciate keeping my treasure shopping competition to a minimum. Haha. Really loving the 2nd one. Reminds me of mine.😉I collect white milk glass too & was blown away w some of the pieces I've found. They def don't look like typical mg, especially my art deco pieces. Since my bookcases are white & most of my items are too, I used this gorgeous black fabric w lg white geometric design to cover the back. I just cut to size, used some spray fabric starch & applied. It really makes my mg, clear glass & silver pieces pop!

I love what you did with your shelves! You really do such a nice job with balance and incorporate such interesting pieces. So often I see shelves that appear crowded and almost "heavy", like the shelf is about to crash in on itself. You have this great sense of using that negative space, so that my eye can enjoy each item, and not get stuck staring at something that doesn't fit in or conform. You also do a great job with "lines". There's vertical and horizontal, and then an interesting shape either with a monkey, or bust or flower. I also enjoy how you keep your colors simple. The black is grounding everything when it needs to and the white really brightens everyting. Good job!!!!! I took a screen shot to study for my next shelf project!

I love this analysis, Christine! I’m no professional, but I definitely try to keep scale, dimension, white (negative) space, and composition in mind when I vignette a space. Your BEST video!! Styling shelves is so difficult for most people. This 3 part tutorial was so good because you gave us options and guidelines for balance, interest and movement. I’m so glad I could shed some light on my process and inspire you with this video 😁 it definitely takes me some time myself to play with the decor items and get them to feel “just right” but I found that arranging the decorative accessories before books, etc. was helpful as well as sticking to various themes. Really liked ALL the arrangements but was particularly taken with the one with color! You stepped out of your comfort zone to create a lovely vignette! I have never understood the use of books as design objects in decorating, but you showed me how it can be done with thoughtfulness and a refined sense of style.

In just a few minutes you’ve taught me how to unify, balance & minimally style my bookshelves, the vibrant red pages really made your 1st decor display pop. The 2nd crystal display is glamgorgeous and is totally my style. The 3rd display is “She ready” the hues are beautiful, I started clapping & say Bravissimo Beau when I saw Co Co Chanel book I absolutely love her, my famous quotes from her are “ Simplicity is the keynote of all true Elegance” & Fashion fades, only style remains the same. Wonderful job on all 3 displays, Beau! I am partial to the first 2, but loved seeing something different with all of the color in the third display (and the way you incorporated natural elements and pockets of color kept it from feeling out of place). Also love how you first placed the larger items before going back in with your books to add depth. Awesome job!

Thank you, Mark! I too, prefer the first two ☺️ thought it would be fun to provide a versatile option and step outside of my norm and show just a bit of color to shake things up a bit! Vignetting can be intimidating and it takes quite a while to figure out what works together. As you’ve observed, I find it helpful to place the decorative objects first and then go back in with books to add height and dimension - also, I don’t know why but so many people don’t include books in their bookshelf styling and it leaves me perplexed 😆
