How To Perform a Reset

If you get a Check Engine Light or MIL Light on your Dashboard first thing I recommend is to perform a RESET. While you doing it Check make sure all your Liquids are between Half and Full ( Coolant&OIL and if its electrical issue by performing Reset it usually helps to clears the codes. Sometimes it takes 2-3 tries before Mil light is cleared and if not Contact our service department so they can arrange technicians to take a look at your truck at the nearest Freightliner Dealer. Thanks. This worked for me as well on a 2016 Cascadia with an automatic trans. The engine wouldn't start, no gear options were available, just displayed two lines ( - - ), and other details were unavailable or missing like the miles per gallon display from the dashboard. The reset didn't work immediately, but then again, my situation was more severe than a simple code reset. The truck sat for a while (45 minutes or so) after I did a 30 minute reset, then it started right up. Thanks again.

I have the solid and check engine light on and def light flashing yellow. Went into derate, maxed at 55. It worked clearing up the derate. At least I'm able to make it to a shop now. Thanks alot. And if anyone is reading, you start engine on the 4th try.

It really works if you do not have a master switch still works set you a timer for literally 15min and then filling g this guys instructions, only catch is when you crank truck all the way up , already push the switch as you crank truck should work and after regen has ended press again to see if it needs another regen just in case . Then you are back to normal routine of driving .

'15 Cascadia Evolution, DD-15; DT-12; It has worked for me! Try with 15 mins "no power" and 3 times (half) start to the point of dashboard instruments full test done - didn't work. But, try with couple minutes of "no power" and 3 times contact ON just to the point when all dashboard lights are on followed by couple second contact OFF and with turning engine (with instrument test fully done) on fourth time has cleared my inlet NOx sensor MIL light. Hope this helps.

I tried this on my Freightliner 2017 DD15 and it didn't make the noises on none of the 3 half turns, and on the 4th crank, none of my lights went out. I have the amber engine light and the amber engine light that says check. Any other suggestions?

After I did it. It won't work immediately. I have to top off the def tank and crank it . The light goes off thank God . Save me a couple hundred dollars at least if I went to the shop instead. Also, if the SPN 4374 went on even tho you reset and temporarily fix it it doesn't mean it is good. The cheapest way is to buy def filter and change by your own which I am about to do after I go home. Again thanks a lot for the video.

Typically this does not work If the problem still exists. Normally you'd have to make the repair for the ECM or body controller to know work was done and light will automatically go out

Posting late reply, but it may help someone. If you don't have a kill switch, you will need to remove the red power cables from the battery. All of the power to the truck should then be off (no cab lights, dashboard lights, etc. on).

you cannot clear an active code even with DDC software. you might clear a code that has somehow taken care of it self (no longer active). if you are having data collision issues (data link stopped). you need to remove the battery cables (ground side)and the QUALCOMM cables for 10 minutes. then reattach and the data link should now be cleared. some older fr8liners have relays that DO NOT disconnect just turning the disconnect switch, so be warned, eh!

This is exact reason why we do it, so that way we can determine if its a serious mechanical failure and we absolutely must have to go to the nearest dealer or its just something that can be cleared and he can make it to a home terminal for an inspection.

This 2016 Freightliner does not have a kill switch. I've had a check engine light since completing a regen last night and now the truck turns off every 10 to 15 minutes by itself. I checked for an active code and there was none. Rechecking all the fluid levels now. Any other suggestions?

I have a 2017 Cascadia since new, now have over 766,000 miles on my DD15. I discovered that the " Check Engine " icon goes out at minimum 3 cycles, but a couple of times it took 6. Also, I try to be near Freightliner or a TA just in case it won't go out. The only time it wouldn't go out, Diagnostics showed it just needed a Software program downloaded again, I think that was at 100, 000 miles and warranty covered the minor cost.

@@abdiwasaalinur1460 I still fighting with itn I know my pump is new and it's good. I replaced the sensor in the tank and it still did it , replaced the wiring harness as well and still doing it. So far now I just u plugged the wire from the sensor and put a paper clip in both sides if sensor wrapped with electrical tape and zip tied the wire up so not flopping around. There is no way I'm spe spending huge cash on this issue as it's not leaking or low at all. I check 3-4 times daily and haven't had to add more than a few cups since my original post. ..with the paper clip in the wringing end clip it stopped setting off alarm and the lights stopped coming on. If you trust it's not leaking or low level it's a quick fix (not proper) but it will keep you moving and won't go insane from the bells and whistles going off non stop. I just ordered a 2023 Cascadia so when I get thst in a week or so this 17 is going on the market board they can figure it out. Best of luck and if you do find out yhr issue let me know as I'm stumped .

As a diesel technician i am begging all of you to please never do this unless in an emergency situation and have to for some reason. When a fault code is sent out by the ecm it does more than just trigger a light to warn the driver. It also records all current operating conditions from when the code was activated. So when your truck arrives in the shop and a tech is trying to diagnose the problem they can see exactly what was going on when the fault occurred. This is so helpful in this process. Without the snapshot data you might as well just starting throwing random parts on in some cases. Especially with electrical issues. So please, leave the codes.
