A couple problems here. First, your gauge should stay at the highest reading until you push the release button. Second, you should pull the throttle all the way in (full thottle) when doing the test. It will make a difference in the reading.

Just got my first jet ski, a sea doo spi. It runs but when I give it full throttle it dies. I was told to check the compression. Thanks for the informative video

I know this is 10 months old... but your more likely issue is dirty carburetors. If you have the grey "Tempo" brand fuel lines, they are known to degrade and produce a green substance that will block the internals of your carbs. Replace all of the grey fuel lines, and I mean all, with new fuel hose. The carbs will need to be rebuilt, running Sea Foam or similar won't do the trick. Be sure to use Genuine Mikuni carburetor rebuild kits, as the aftermarket (cheap, Chinese) are said to be inferior. I had the very same issue with my 97 XP, surging, bogging, cutting out at anything over 3/4 throttle. Carb rebuild and fuel hose swaps fixed the issue. Good luck.

Can you turn the flywheel by hand with the spark plugs in???

The cylinders are leaking thru the rings! The gauge needle shouldn't move!

I think the gage is dropping psi because he has both spark plugs out when running each test.

No...the gauge itself is defective. Pressurized cylinders are not supposed to hold pressure for more than a few miliseconds. The gauge is supposed to hold the maximum reading.

Rotax 787 with 130 compression on both cylinders. Are those ok numbers?

Google your make and model and type in compression along with it.

Is 125 or 130 psi too low?
@justinsteinley40933 жыл бұрын
You also have more then a 5% difference in your cylinders which is a big no no. And the pressure drop isn’t good obviously
@shacam543 жыл бұрын
5% of 150 is a 7.5 clearance. He only had 5 psi difference. …So he is okay there .. As far as the tester he Probably didn’t have a good shrader valve in his tester .

I'm going to look at a 95 sea doo xp everything is original and I asked him what the compression was and he said 130 can I still drive it around without doing anything to the motor??
@owenjackson53802 жыл бұрын
yes anything under 120 is going bad so eventually you would need them replaced you want them to be within 5 psi of eachother
