Hey, thanks for the great video! I kinda struggle setting up an ultrasonic sensor for the Omniscan SX. It is pretty similar to the one you have used in the video. Its called M106-RM and also uses pulse-echo mode. I still dont get any signal from the sensor. Which input on the Top (P1 or R1) do I have to use?

I use P1

Make sure you are changing the technique in Setup menu to P-E (Pulse Echo)

Calibration frequency would be in accordance with the approved procedure for the project.

Hi, thanks for the video. I´got two questions: 1. can I Use this type of technology in concrete? 2. How should I do the calibration for this type of material, knowing that this is an heterogeneous media? I´m in an investigation trying to apply the PA technology on concrete and I searching for information. If you can help me I´ll acknowledge you so much. Thanks again.

Yes you can use PAUT on concrete. You would typically use low frequencies (50-400 KHz). In addition, you may use the SAFT (Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique) to improve Signal to Noise Ratio. As far as calibration is concerned, you would have to build a standard dimension calibration block with the same material that you are about to inspect. I am sure you know this article www.ndt.net/article/ecndt2006/doc/Tu.3.2.3.pdf

Thank you. Yes, I have already read that article. My objetive is to use PAUT on concrete in order to detect flaws (cracks or voids) or the rebars (or in an advanced application, to calculate indirectly compression strength of concrete using UT, with this kind of technology, it´s only an idea). I´ve got the Omniscan Sx for my investigation, however, I know that most of applications of PAUT has been on metals. Due to heterogeneous nature of concrete, I don´t know if using PA will be a good election, because of the heavy scattering of the ultrasound wave in this material,( thanks for the range of frecuencies you´ve mentioned). I´m planning my investigation, trying to find out a good application of PA on concrete, but I don´t know how to start and focus my investigation. I don´t know how to configure the Omniscan to start working with this kind of material, and with the objetives I´m planning. Could you suggest me something? Thanks for your answer and your comments. I realy appreciate that.

@@denialboran, perhaps UT isn't the solution you are looking for. Investigate the magnetic NDT methods or even RT.
