This video is HIGHLY underrated!!! I've been researching for over a week trying to find the best 4k monitor for my video editing workflow and I just stumbled upon this video. It's helped me immensely better understand all the settings, different panel types, and pros/cons of different monitors. Thank you Tymek for creating this video to help give clarity to people looking for a new monitor!!

For the money at $350 my wife went with the Asus Pro Art 2K Monitor w/90W USB-C connection and 144hz with the 100% on everything but DCI-P3 which was at 95%. Was a no brainer for everything you're getting. Being that she does Crochet videos, and does them at high bit rate 1440P resolution and then converts them to 1080p because of the run time.

Crazy amount of information with no bias! This is incredible value. Found out that the monitor I have does no justice to the beast of a camera Panasonic S5 that I have. Nevertheless, this is amazing information and I truely respect the time and efforts that you have to put in to create this video. A big salute. Subscribed! (The very least I can do)

the ports confuse me a bit... I get the stuff being relevant for gaming, where you actually watch images at 144hz+. But for video editing or pictures, it only boils down to wether your port (and your camera) supports 10bit or not right? because a video is usually between 24 and 30fps, meaning a 120fps shot gets displayed at that rate anyway in a 24p timeline making it possible to do slowmos. So for sole video or photo editing the hz is irrelevant, but the bit-support is the deciding factor if I am correct? Thanks fr that video, was aperfect overview

This is a great taxonomy of the decision points in choosing a monitor.. i have just two weeks building my knowledge to add an additional 32 " monitor. Now i find the perfect decision path.. this video has really solidified my approach.. thank you so much for your work.. one question... why dont we use some of the gaming monitors.. 32", 4k , 140hz refresh, 500 nits, 10 bit colour space, 90% DCI-P3, 100% Rec 709.. if its on a gaming monitor, do you know why we don't use them.. or do we??

Thank you for the kind comment :) at the end of the day if a monitor has the specs you want then it doesnt matter really what is is labeled as. however, what i noticed is that most gaming monitors are either VA or TN monitors when IPS type monitors are the best for video and photo editing.

So as i mention in the video, DP 1.2 is okay, and in theory should be able to support 10 bit 60hz 4k based off its max data rate, but when i was digging around i got conflicting answers. some Sites said that 1.2 could not support 10 bit. i think you are better off trying to find a monitor with atleast 1.4. 1.2 is a very old standard at this point

your computer can still edit the footage, and it wont regrade the quality - however it just might be really slow editing the footage as 4k video is more difficult for a computer to work with then lower resolutions. ( same goes for higher frame rates)

Szukam panelu ips, 27-32 cale, optymalnie QHD, który będzie miał dobre kolory, gamut wiadomo min. sRGB, równomierne podświetlenie, oraz... no właśnie - odświeżanie te 120hz mile widziane. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple of other questions: I really like this close-up video of birds landing on a piece of wood ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnXVc2iZaZKWb7s ) What kind of camera and lens would I need to film this scenario ? Do I need a Sony A7Siii because I want to let it run for long periods of time without overheating ? I think Panasonics can run a long time without overheating but they have poor auto-focus. Do I need high quality autofocus for this scenario? What kind of lens do you think this video is using ? Perhaps the Sony FE 20mm F1.8 or is that too wide for this shot ? Maybe a 50-55mm ? What kind of lens would you use for this shot? Thank you very much.

you definitely dont specifically need a sony for this type of shot; however im not sure of every camera and which ones over heat and dont. it looks like its probably a wider angle lens, like in the 20-35 mm range i would say. this is just a 15 min clip but i do know there are still a lot of cameras that have that 30 min record limit, which the A7S III doesn't. there is definitely no autofocus for that shot, he manually focused the nuts and then just let the camera run. and it looks like they had a tighter aperture, probably around f4 or 5.6 as you can see the depth of field is very wide and the backround isn't overly creamy and out of focus. a 50 mm lens would still work for this, the camera would just need to be farther away, and you would get less of the background. as far as which lens i would use i would really have to test out some focal lengths to see which look i liked the best, it might be worth renting a zoom lens like a 16-35 or a 24-105 lens to play around with focal lengths to see which look you like the best, and what distance from the subject you like to work with, and then either buy a zoom lens to keep that variation possible, shoot some wide, shoot some tight, or you might find out that you only like 1 specific focal length like and get a prime lens as they are usually better quality. I also just want to say that i am more than happy to help with your questions, but if you could just keep the same comment chain going on the H6 video that would be appreciated, as if you are just clicking on the video to ask a question about your camera and lens searches, but not watching the video, it hurts the videos analytics, and i see it dropped to only 48 second view duration around the time you commented.

no worries at all! like i said im more than happy to help when ever you have a question. and not a problem, you'll see once you start uploading your nature content, the videos where people watch more of it, will be more likely to do better. when people watch for longer its an indication that they enjoy it so youtube will share it more with others. videos with poor average view duration usually dont do so well. but its all averaged so one view here and there wont destroy the videos performance. KZbin also generates retention graphs that show where the average viewer is clicking off your video so you can analyze those moments and see if you can make a change to how you make your videos in the future if its always happening in a similar section of your video.

Wow Tymek, Thank You!! What awesome information and explained extremely well! In fact, the best I have ever come across. I have a Late 2021 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max. I've been looking for a nice monitor to use for FCPX video editing. I would love an ultrawide but, scaling problems with text along with the lack of maintaining proper 3840x2160 resolution. With that being said, I steering away from those. I'm now thinking about a pair of 27" or a 32". Been looking for a couple weeks in which I haven't pinpointed anything....it's tough. Now that I have seen your video, I've learned quite a bit more about what to look out for. Thanks again, job well done!! 👍😊

This is too much of detail. Like anyone can expand and lecture for hours also on 1 subject if need be. It didnt have to be this long. The title says picking a monitor for video editing. But the video was more like general encyclopedia on monitor technologies, which even a person whos not INTO monitors like me can do.....and mostly which is what everyone is doing on YT....research the web for 1 hr and get content for a freaking 1 hr video.....just transmit information from one form to the other, add salt if neccesary. Very talented job KZbin is turning out to be....err uhmm.

@@luisguti9425 I was only mentioning that it was loaded with and unnecessary amount of info when compared to the impression the title gives. If a title goes HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FRIDGE and then he starts lecturing about compressors and who invented the fridge and how all it evolved along with how to clean it....then someone's going to point it out ? Thats why the comment section exists right ? Nothing wrong in giving honest feedback. They should do this just to run high duration videos for their analytics and business point of view.

@@simplysurfing i think the title is very accurate as to the video content. i wanted to myself learn "how to pick a monitor for video editing" and every single topic discussed in the video was a question i was trying to have answered, and i also couldnt find this information in 1 place. it took me forever to compile all the info from many different sources. as you can see from other comments, basically everyone but you was looking for this information. i suppose you may have just been trying to find a more basic monitor ? while others actually wanted to know about the details about how monitors differ from one another.
