I have a tier system for my XL and do 50-60 lbs of Pork Shoulder at one cook. The BGE has a convectional heating and I have not had any difference between the two. I've had this for 7 years and I LOVE IT!

That’s a ton of pork butts!

I went with XL because my 18” WSM could not fit a full packer brisket without doing extra stuff. No regrets after 5 years.

I've had a BGE XL for 7 years. I have done( 7) 10-11 lbs Pork Butt. With the covection heat layers does not effect even cooking at least in my experience. I live 28 miles from the Canadian border in upstate NYS. So I have to make my smoke in the early spring or summer. I vaacum seal all of it so I can servre it through the Winter season during Football Gatherings with friends and Family. . Enjoy your review!

That’s a lot of meat at once! I make two 8 lb pork butts and I basically give away a whole one and still have leftovers for days with the other!

Why doesn't this company provide an extra gasket with each new purchase of a green Egg since after firing it up for the first time, the gasket has to be replaced ? Seems like a cheap company to me and makes the Weber Komado look that much better.

Did you have to replace your gasket after a single/first cook? I’ve never heard of that. They recommend some lower temp cooks for the first few cooks, but definitely shouldn’t have to replace your gasket after the first cook!

@@hooksBBQ In order to fire clean the grill or to break it in it has to go at a high temp for several hours from the videos I saw.I won't be purchasing the egg any time soon and want to explore other options.

The break-in directions recommended the first several cooks below 350 degrees, so not high heat cooks. I did ribs and pulled pork for my first couple cooks, and have had my egg to 700 several times lately without any gasket problems. The recommendations state to avoid those high temp cooks for the first several cooks. The eggs are a solid choice for sure, and assuming the other brands have similar break-in recommendations.
